There were 3 different installers (windows/siding/gutters) and all 3 were great. They arrived on time, as scheduled, completed job in timely manner based on weather conditions and cleaned up after themselves regarding particles from installations.
I would definitely recommend this group. Well worth the money and it looks great too!
Barry's salesmanship can come across a little strong but he really is a nice guy and he provides a comprehensive book of references which I randomly contacted a number of them with no issues to report. In fact, all gave excellent feedback and were happy to share their experience.
I would also add that Barry's prices are excellent and we made a number of upgrades to the basic vinyl double-hung replacements and ended up with wood-clad new construction windows.
Just a word of experience to anyone having windows replaced in a house that may have settled: The windows will be installed level with the ground, even if the trim is not. This means that the center window of our bay is not parallel with the window sill; it's off by nearly 3/8and quot; from one end to the other. This has made installing any kind of blinds a challenge, one we haven't solved. Plus, bay window curtain rods don't fit the replacement windows, and tension rods don't hold against the vinyl. This problem does not seem to be specific to Champion. Just something you may want to discuss with your contractor ahead of time, in case this might be a problem, no matter what firm you work with. We have a window shade and blind consultant coming by later this week; if we learn of a solution, I'll be glad to share it.
Our 40 year old townhouse was in need of upgrades and repairs. We met up with representatives from the Champion company at a local Home Show Expo. They were nice and seemed very professional and they could do all the jobs we needed done. Since we had to get approvals from our Home Owners Association before we could get started that was a slight delay. But once we made all the decisions about color and materials and got our approvals and the county permit for the deck it was smooth sailing. We were told it takes about 8-12 weeks to get the doors since they are all custom built so we figured we would have everything done in July. We were happily surprised to have the deck, siding m gutters and doors all completed much earlier.
They have a different crew for each type of job and they are specialists in their tasks. All of the workers were friendly, experienced and showed up right on time each day. If we had any questions or concerns they were happy to work with us.
The deck was done first and Freddy and Ronnie dig a great job and spent extra effort digging holes for the concrete footers doing even more than the county codes require. We had the county inspector visit three times during the process to make sure everything is sound and secure. We now have a solid, beautiful wood deck that should last many years.
The siding, gutters and downspouts were installed next and that took about 1 1/2 days. That job went very quickly. First they apply the insulation to the house exterior and then add the vinyl siding. Our house has an ornamental iron grill that needed to be painted to match the siding. They removed it for us. I painted it and when it was dry, the workers remounted it on the house for us.The next day the doors and sliding glass door arrived and all was installed in half a day. They really look nice and are very well built.
It was a pleasure working with Champion. The sales reps and sales manager and all of the workers were great and we would definitely recommend them to others . We will be calling them to upgrade our windows at some point in the future,
Well done, Champion!!
All of the workers were great about cleaning up after completing their jobs which was so appreciated. It was a pleasure working with them.
- Once you decide upon the exact model and finish they will send someone to make detailed measurements for each window.
- Three to four weeks later the windows will be available from the factory (these are all built to specification).
- Barry calls you to set the installation date.
- Champion sends enough labor to install all windows that same day.
- ALL the workers are both people and pet friendly.
- They are respectful of your home, and do a great cleanup job.
contracted for windows after demonstration at home (and much research, comparison shopping)
decided to add siding to the job.
good customer service, workmanship
Overall, the job went very well. Barry's crew started work a few days sooner than originally anticipated. The first day on the job, Barry completed a thorough walk through to discuss the specifics of the job and address areas where we needed to make decisions. It took about 3 weeks to complete the entire job, but we viewed that as positive. Rather than rush through things, his men took their time, paid attention to detail, and were careful to clean up after themselves. English is not the first language for either of Barry's workers and we did encounter a few small things that were done differently than requested. Our sense is that this was probably a result of miscommunication and/or a language barrier. We brought the problems to Barry's attention and he fixed them without incident.
The previous siding was not installed properly which caused water to seep behind it and cause significant rotting around the window frames. Before starting the job, Barry indicated that once the old siding had been removed and he could assess the true extent of the problem, he might need to charge extra to replace the wood. The extra cost wound up being about $400, which we thought was extremely fair for the labor and materials. We were extremely pleased with this aspect of the job. Mr. Lee, the main worker, painstakingly fit new pieces to replace the rotten sections.
The new siding looks great and we have received many compliments on the improved appearance of our house. We appreciated that Barry left us with extra caulk and siding should we need it for future repairs. The only negative aspect of our experience occurred several months after the job was complete. After some heavy rains last spring we noticed that one of the gutters wasn't draining properly. It wasn't until two or three months after we first contacted Barry that he addressed the gutter problem, and only after several e-mails and phone calls. As it turned out, we had to have him return for a different issue unrelated to the initial installation at which time he also took care of the gutter.
