William was attentive in answering questions via cell phone and email. He deferred questions to staff in his office later once we were dealing with billing, insurance questions, adding additional work, and scheduling. We had a very smooth process with ACC, and they handled meeting with the insurance adjuster after we set up the appointment. ACC also filled out all the paperwork for requesting the depreciated amount not included in the initial settlement check. Our out of pocket was actually only $1400 for the entire job. When the insurance adjuster recommended we replace our skylights since they were already 25 years old, we were charged very little for labor since the roof was being completely removed/replaced. The crew showed up on time and worked quickly. Our ridge vent was apparently not up to code, so that was fixed. We noticed an appreciable increase in airflow through the house after that. Probably the only annoying event that happened during the actual job was a little debris fell into the house while they were doing the skylights, but I don't see how that can be completely avoided. The most difficult part of the process was getting the estimate from the insurance company, but that was not ACC's fault. They did remark that while it took us a while to get the estimate, the actual estimate was quite fair.

They were always on time. Some of the work could have been done better. On the deck an exterior outlet was mounted on the surface of the siding instead of in a recess designed for that purpose like the other exterior outlet was. The recesses didn?t quite fit the outlet covers either. Worker said that?s the only size they have and that the surface outlet cover is easier to get to. I was concerned that they would do a less than adequate job of installing it if I required it. We had some serious wind about a month after the original install and some of the siding moved and showed the foil sheathing underneath. It took two return trips to get it done correctly. The recall shouldn?t have happened if the siding was installed correctly. Also the roof leaked the following year and I called a local company, Hartman Roofing. Mr. Hartman came out and repaired the area himself. He said that the area that leaked was flashing and should have been repaired when the new roof was installed. I was not told or they didn?t notice about the flashing when the original roof install was done. Overall the work was adequate. BUT, they ONLY do the work on the work order and don?t see anything else! There also appears to be very little supervision as the siding wasn?t installed correctly originally.

The roof replacement was covered by insurance; we decided to also replace our gutters at the same time. From the first contact, the job was done professionally and in a timely manner. When the endless bad weather this winter caused delays, we were always contacted promptly. We were very pleased with our dealings with everyone at the company from the salesman (Orhan), to the job supervisor (Steve) to the customer service rep (Kara), and we are very pleased with the end result. The roof and guttters look great!

I can tell you everything about them! They were fabulous! Their subcontractors were good, too. They were efficient, extremely professional, and they were completely trustworthy. What they said they were going to do, they followed up on it. They were also very knowledgeable; they knew their stuff. They took care of everything with their subcontractors! They saved us the research and the hassle. They dealt with everyone and it was fabulous. They can handle anything. They know people for everything and I would trust them.

The workmen removed the old siding; installed a vapor barrier and the new siding. Installed and painted the Azek trim boards. Removed the old sunburst and installed the Fypon sunburst and painted it to match the siding. The finished work looks great. The professional and courteous workmen cleaned up after each day's work. The work took a little longer than estimated but I thought the estimate was optimistic. The actual duration was what I expected. The project manager was on site almost every day to monitor the work; give us status and answer questions.

We previously had American Custom repair drywall and paint for a burst pipe...while this wasn't the smoothest process, I was overall satisfied with that work. During the course of that process, I asked if they did siding since we had old aluminum siding and wanted to replace it. They replied that they did and were going to have someone come over and present us with an estimate. The estimating process was fine and after getting several other estimates, we decided to go with American Custom because we didn't see a huge difference in the quality we thought we would receive to justify paying extra. After telling the other contractors we were going with someone else, we attempted to contact our salesman. His email was returned so my wife called his number...someone else answered and said that he no longer worked with the company. We expressed that we still wanted the work and were told that someone would call us. That was close to two weeks ago now and we still have not been contacted. I thought this was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional and they lost ~$27K sale due to not having a plan in place to take care of customers of this employee. After a week, we signed a contract with Colonial and have been extremely happy with the process thus far and the level of communication. Could this have been an oversight due to an unexpected departure of an employee? Sure...however, some of the other things that occurred during my other experience led me to believe that I might experience much of the same going forward. It's unfortunate because we have heard good things about their work and they were price competitive but after having dealt with another contractor who was unresponsive and cost me money due to lack of attention to detail and responsiveness, I was not going to take any chances.

Contractor/Sales Agent: Excellent, timely, and wiling to negotiate Project Manager: Marginal...stopped my job because he said he had a more important job across town. Didn't respond with a sense of urgency to my calls. On the positive side, the gentleman was polite and friendly. Overall, took them about 3 to 4 weeks to complete a job that should have taken about 3 days. There was some rain but nothing to cause that time of delay. Workers: Excellent workmanship but appeared overwork. Excellent job of cleaning up at the end of the day. Excellent job at communicating how the project was going and causes for delay (better than project manager). Product: Couldn't be more pleased. The new roof keeps the upstairs part of the house approximately 10 or so degrees cooler in the hottest part of the summer.

ACC had been working in the neighborhood and of course came to our home to "sell" us on replacing our roof. The sales representative indicated that because of the type of shingle installed in 1987, our insurance might pay for a roof replacement. So, we let ACC evaluate and do an estimate of a replacement and in fact the insurance did cover the replacement. The work was scheduled for 2-3 weeks later,the crew arrived exactly on time, did the replacement within the day/time provided in the estimate, cleaned up beautifully, and was on budget. I would also like to say that the company administrative staff and production manager were professional, efficient, and accessible. I would definately hire them again.

Our experience with American Custom on a roof replacement was outstanding, start to finish. It was among the best experience we have had with a contractor and this is our third home. The initial estimate was the most clear of all the estimates we obtained. It detailed each aspect of the project, whereas other estimates were simply total costs or some general description of what would be done. They were in the middle of the estimates in terms of price, but who knew how many ?extras? the others may have thrown at us. In any event, I had a higher comfort level with the company as a result of the transparent estimate and I was right. Demetri then came to the house and went over each of the options, including replacing the skylights. There was no hard sell at any time. He just matter-of-factly went over each option. Once work began, we had an on-site foreman and Steve as our project manager. The workmen were highly skilled and delivered on the contract. Steve answered all questions throughout the process and it was clear that he was not going to be happy unless we were happy. They all were very professional at all times. The site was cleaned up each day and when work was completed. There was some inevitable damage to a few gutter guards, but American Custom came back and replaced them with new guards. We likely will have some siding work done in the next year or so and we will definitely go back to American Custom. Based on our experience, you would be very well served by selecting them for a roofing project.

We had a few issues, but they were resolved after bringing them up with the back office. To begin with the wrong siding materials were delivered, glad I double checked before the siding was installed. They installed OSB on the roof even though the contract called for CDX plywood. It was clear the guys doing the work didn't know the difference (really??) when I brought this up, although I didn't have to pay for the materials after I complained to the back office. They could have done a more thurough job caulking around all the J-channels installed through the siding around exterior outlets etc. Finally, we did find over 100 nails/screws left in the yard and planting beds. They did use a magnetic rake at the end of the job, but I feel that they could have done a better job cleaning up the nails/screws considering kids play in the yard. I think the back office and job supervisor could have done a better job communicating with the job crew the scope of the work to prevent the few issues we had. I had to contact the sales rep a couple times to resolve issues due to lack of response from the job supervisor. I purposely waited a year before writing this review. Despite the above mentioned issues, the quality of the work has been good and my house looks great with a new roof and insulated vinyl siding. Would I use them again? Probably not, the roof and siding are going to out live me anyhow and I'll try another contractor for other work I may need.

Even though we did not ultimately choose American Custom Contractors (ACC) to perform an extensive and unusual remodeling project, I was so impressed with them during our lengthy and complex bid process that I felt it may be helpful to others considering this firm. Our project involved putting on a new cedar shingle roof, new cedar siding, Hardie trim throughout, 19 new windows and new gutters on a Dutch colonial timber frame house. Total project cost was about $85k. We interviewed many different contractors and in the end it came down to ACC and one other. No other firms were in their league. While cedar roofs are common, cedar siding is rare yet we had full confidence that ACC could perform the work and employ the necessary best practices during installation. For me, that speaks to their range of competence in the full spectrum of remodeling. In the end, deciding between the two firms was almost a 50/50 proposition ? just short of a coin toss - and honestly we would have been just as comfortable using this firm. I liked ACC so much I even considered splitting the work between the two companies but was advised against doing that by several contractor friends. We had the pleasure of working with Stephen Meade at ACC. He is the consummate professional and navigated us through our seemingly endless options. More importantly, Stephen is a true gentleman blessed with a remarkable degree of patience. While we wavered between wood and style choices and worried about each decision, Stephen remained unflustered, always helpful and always available. He was honest about what he didn?t know and diligent in acquiring the necessary information. In fact, halfway through the process, Stephen sent my wife and I a nice note saying how much he was learning about cedar and I could tell he had a genuine, curious attachment to our project that very obviously exceeded that which was required to simply ?get the order.? In hindsight, the early stage of reviewing contractors is the most stressful part of a home remodel project. To that extent, Stephen was the right consultant?providing us guidance and lots of room and time to maneuver and explore all our options. If you?re doing a major project, shop your options as you see fit, but do yourself a favor and get this guy in the mix. I can only attest to my satisfaction in the early phase since ACC did not ultimately do the work, but if our experience with Stephen was any indication the entire project would have well exceeded our expectations.

I was very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. I had assumed Angie's List members were vetted for quality and responsiveness. This contractor failed to meet written commitments.

They did a good job and worked independently. They got to the work when promised. I've used these guys twice now and they done a good job each time. I will use them again.

Contractor was not knowledgeable, was unsure of how to get onto the roof, trip was a wasted trip, did not provide any other guidance except that I needed a new roof. Had a previous inspection by another company who said that there was a lot more life on the roof. Wanted a comparison quote. Wasted trip. The good thing is that it was a free quote. Contractor did not even give a quote anyway.

The roof was excellently done but the plastered walls are not smooth, even after several attempts. Total job took 3 months longer then estimated. I would recommend them for a roofing job but not for any other home repairs.

They did a reasonably good job. They had some errors in installation, but they were responsive in coming back and fixing the leaks and fixing the damaged drywalls that was caused by the leaks. I believe now they have it completely fixed. That was about October that they did it, and it took probably until March to really get things straightened out to where they were right. The price was comparable to other roofers that I got estimates from. And overall I am reasonably happy with them.

This was part of an insurance repair. Our roof and aluminum siding was damaged by a hail storm. They replaced the roof and all the siding. Fast and professional. My insurance covered all but $3200. Well worth the money.

Overall it went great. Demetri worked with us and the insurance company adjuster to make sure that the damage caused by the storm was covered. He sat with us and made sure that we picked out the siding that we liked and that we understood the work that would be done. The workers came out on schedule. Cleaned up every day. They were very considerate and professional. American Custom Contractors is a great family owned local business and they worked with us every step of the way to make sure that we were pleased. They fixed the leak in our roof where three other roofing contractors had failed before. Demetri was outstanding and very customer focused and we have already scheduled American Custom Contractors to come out and do an estimate for our 25 year old windows. I highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a highly skilled professional roofing or siding job.

Everybody we dealt with were very profesional, and they did the work in a timely manner. Everytime we had a question or an issue with something they dealt with it very fast .

They are terrific. I have used them for several projects. I have been treated with nothing but kindness and respect from this company. They are on time, on budget, and perform the job to complete satisfaction.

Gettig an estimator out and executing a contract was relatively easy, but getting an actual start date was a definite challenge. I reached out to American Custom Contractors (ACC) and an estimator came out on 8/27/2012, the work was successfully performed on 11/8 (this is couched with the fact that the original performance date was 10/29 -- the day the infamous Sandy hit). I can only sing the praises of ACC. I worked with multiple roofers for several years trying to resolve my roof issues, and only ACC truly invested the time to find the issue. They took photos, consulted with one another and with their more senior and experienced roofers, and even their Production Manager, Ben, even came out. They were even willing to perform water tests to meet the challenge of my ever leaking roof. No other roof company (and I worked with at least 4) offered to invest to this level to resolve the recurring issue. We discussed all possible fixes, and they even provided estimates for each scenerio! I can't say enough about this team...they are what you expect out of professional roofers. Ben even gave me a discount because of the time delay between contract signing (9/19) and performance start date. If I give any advice, it is to get a start date range in the contract. Given this, why did I give an overall grade of "A"? They get the "A" because, as stated, after working with countless roofers over the years, ACC got it right -- no leaks since they came out (and I know because my house is presently gutted -- roof completely exposed)! If they'll have me, they are my roofer of choice!

This was the worst encounter with a contractor I have ever had. Although the estimator, Albert Correal, came out quickly after I called after the derecho and agreed to do an emergency tarping over a hole in the roof, his price was almost twice as high as the going rate, and he told me that the firm would only do the work if I agreed to hire them for the entire roofing repair. Feeling that this was unethical, I finally got a hold of my insurance adjustor who said the price was too high and not to let them do the work. Shortly before I had to leave the premises, the company showed up with workers to do the tarping, and when I asked the estimator what was going on, he said he had spoken to my adjustor by phone and that everything would be okay. I called the insurance guy again and he told me no such conversation ever took place. The disagreement was handled between a company official and the estimator, Albert Correal.

We are overall quite satisfied with American Custom Contractor for the roof work they have done. The sales representative, office staff and installation workers are all very professional and pleasant to deal with. The only small issue was the 2~3 days delay before actual installation partly due to the weather. Also there is 30yrs warranty came with the material, and to register for it after the installation could be easier if ACC provids some clearer guidence.
