We asked to have the washer looked at and possibly repaired, but told the repairman that we weren't into spending a lot to fix this washer. I explained to him that it was not draining and that there was water leaking out from somewhere. Upon arrival, the first thing he did was cut off the soundproof/insulating blanket around the drum and looked for a hole in the drum. After that, he put some water in and discovered that the drain pump was not working and that the leaking water was sloshing out of the top because the drum was trying to spin with too much water in it. He quoted us a price of $60 labor for the first hour (not including the $60 service call we were going to pay anyway) plus parts. He told us the pump was $179.00. He didn't even quote a price to replace the insulation he had cut off with a knife which was now destroyed and couldn't be used again. We said no to the repair as that put it up around $300 even before getting new insulation. The repairman then offered to take the old washer, for a fee of $20. Given that it was filled with water under the basket and in the drum liner which couldn't be drained, we paid the $20 and my husband proceeded to help him take it out through the garage. The repairman was going way too fast and there were some hoses which were keeping the lid up and slightly ajar. When they went into the garage, my husband's hand slipped and the washer lid came down and cut a big gash in his ear because the repairman never stopped moving to make sure my husband had a grip on it. We spent the rest of the day in the medical aid unit, where they had to call a plastic surgeon in to fix my husband's ear. Moreover, he took my perfectly good washer hoses with him rather than leaving them for our next machine, and they are a non-standard length, so now we have to get new hoses that will fit in addition to buying a new washer. After we got home and things calmed down, I priced the pump the old washer would have needed on-line myself, and the price I got for the pump was $113.00, not nearly the $179.00 the repairman told us it would cost. Needless to say, we will never use this repair service again.
Description of Work: Diagnose problem with clothes washer and possibly fix if cost was not too high.
