Chesapeake Chimney & Co
About us
Make a chimney evaluation your top priority! Chesapeake Chimney & Co. can help you get your chimney in top shape. We take pride in being Calvert County's only certified chimney sweep. Get your chimney checked NOW to avoid a headache next winter. It's easy to forget about your chimney when it's warm outside. You've stopped using the fireplace and you rarely fire up the furnace. But don't put your chimney out of mind just yet. Almost all home heating systems - including furnaces, boilers and wood stoves - rely on chimneys to safely vent the exhaust they produce to the outside of your home. In fact, both the National Fire Protection Association and the Chimney Safety Institute of America recommend annual inspections for all chimneys-no matter how you heat your home. An annual chimney inspection can help eliminate fire and carbon monoxide hazards and protect your home from property loss due to deterioration or water damage

They were more than prompt with their arrival, as they called two hours prior to the scheduled time to notify me that their first appointment was cancelled and they would be available to get to my home earlier than scheduled.
Daniel assessed the chimney (positioned himself on the roof) while Justin got to work in the cellar where the oil-burning furnace is located. They were assessing an issue that had been previously discovered by a furnace serviceman who noticed a dangerous amount of debris collecting in the bottom of the chimney shaft, which was partially blocking the exhaust path from the furnace. Both determined that the debris consisted of masonry particles shedding from the inside of the chimney, which had no liner. (Chimney is quite old, built at a time when liners were not required.) Justin further described an issue with the connecting pipe (from furnace to thimble) regarding excessive number of elbows and an declining position, both of which hinder efficiency of exhaust release.
Both answered all of my questions as I observed their work, provided recommendations for follow-up maintenance (stainless steal liner, insulation), etc. About two weeks later, they provided an email with an itemized estimate, one with a price including the insulation, one without, so that I could make a decision based on my budget and preference. (I further researched the benefits of adding insulation and made my decision from that.)
We are now in the process of scheduling the installation of the liner and insulation.
"Thank you [removed name] for reviewing us. We appreciate your business and hope all is well with you. Have a wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year! From all of us at Chesapeake Chimney & Co."
"Dear Mr. [member name removed], We have checked our records and the last service date that we have is on 6/21/2009. During that visit we only inspected and measured the chimney for a new chase cover and provided options for pellet stoves. The visit was at no charge. We believe that you may have our company confused with another company in St. Mary's County "Chesapeake Chimney Sweeps". They do have a similar phone number to ours but be assured that we are in no way associated with them. We take pride in providing excellent service and this would not have happened if we were servicing your chimney system. Please do not hesitate to contact our office at: 410-535-0052 if you would like us to schedule a visit to do an inspection. We would be more than happy to assist you."
