We are trying to do a major home renovation on an older house in Takoma Park, MD. We are adding an additional level. We had to get the architectural plans approved by a structural engineer. Based on the reviews, we decided to go with Hadi. What a mistake that turned out to be!
He came by, on the time that we had scheduled. We walked around the house, and we walked it with the plans we had so far. He seemed satisfied and then we requested that he stamp the drawings, so that we can submit it to the county for approval. When we emailed him the plans, he started to ask questions that he should have asked when we walking the house! he didn't even take any measurements and then started to question the measurements on the plans (which were accurate). We had to hire another engineer, who actually came over and did the job properly.
We just paid him some money for just coming out on a trip and then telling us some BS story about his school life. If you want a visit to hear this story, then by all means, go ahead. If you want a competent structural engineer, then avoid this one.

"Since you are unclear about the work completed, here is a reminder. I came out to your home for a consultation after reviewing 65 sheets of draft architectural drawings to ensure they were accurate. During the inspection of all floors and the exterior (which took several hours), we uncovered columns and walls as needed for the permit and for calculations required, for which no further measurements were needed. This several hours inspection/consultation was the first step in the work that was detailed in my proposal to you. At this first step the proposal listed you were to pay $1000 (half of $2000 total fee) in which you gave only $400 (it is not clear where your $800 listed above comes from). As mentioned in my initial proposal to you, however, the consultation alone would not be sufficient to stamp the construction drawings for the county. A face to face meeting with the architect was also needed, but according to you, they were out of town. As you did not pay per the amounts listed in proposal, no further work was done. In response to your accusation of my "BS stories"- I made reference to my education to stress 45 years of experience. As you can see by the all the other positive reviews on Angie's List, my clients not only appreciated my work, but also my friendly character. In your rant you also agreed I arrived on time at our scheduled inspection, so it remains a question how you would also rate "punctuality" as an "F". In the end I am sorry your needs were not met by our services. Good luck finding other professional for your next project without payment and without friendliness. Thankfully I have a thriving business with the overwhelming majority who are thrilled with the services I provide."

The job went well the engineer came to the house twice since the first visit didn't allow for enough time to take all the measurements. The engineer was professional and explained to me everything that he was doing as I followed him around the exterior, interior, and into the crawl space. He seemed very knowledgeable on all accounts.

I contacted Hadi with a request to draft up a set of foundation plans for my greenhouse. He performed the work in a couple of days for a very reasonable price. Charles County approved the plans and my contractor was able to pour the concrete slab within the week. I just received the final inspection on my greenhouse and the county had no questions whatsoever.

Mr. Rahnama was extremely responsive. He accommodated my request for a Saturday appointment so I could be at home when he came out. He was very punctual...came right on time. He listened to what I needed and what my goal was. He performed a very thorough investigation of my existing deck. He made several recommendations to enhance the structural integrity of the deck and in a few instances weighed options and recommended to least costly approach. His report was thorough and was sent quickly.
I am very glad I called Mr. Rahnama and feel confident as I proceed to discuss my deck replacement project with contractors.

I am remiss in getting this review filed due to having too many irons in the fire. Mr. Rahnama was punctual and very professional. He was able to accommodate my need for a weekend appointment. He walked the property with me, inside and out. He explained what was going on and made recommendations. I consider it the best $400.00 I've spent on the house so far both in terms of peace of mind and some solid suggestions for a course of action. I would highly recommend Mr. Rahnama.

The evaluation was prompt and thorough. The recommendations made were clearly stated in a written report and fully descriptive of the steps to be taken. I would definitely recommend HRA Structural Engineers for any similar situation.

We had a crack in our basement floor and needed to have it repaired. We called three different companies to come and tell us what we needed to do to repair it and to give us an estimate. Unfortunately, we got three different answers. We were told we could simply fill the crack. We were told we needed to put in a water pumping system and we were told we needed to put new footings under part of the house. The prices ranged from $350 to about $8,000. As you can imagine after spending a few weeks doing this we felt no further ahead and were totally frustrated. We then decided to have a structural engineer come out and give us his professional advice. Since he would not be doing the repair itself we felt we would get an unbiased opinion. I called on a Friday and they came out Saturday morning. We had a detailed report on what needed to be done within 24 hours. The gentleman who came was very helpful and professional. We would defintitely use HRA again. The expense was worth the peace of mind it provided and, in the end, will save us money as what they recommended was not as expensive as the higher priced items quoted to us.

We pulled out carpet on the lower level of our home and found some cracks in the slab we wanted assessed. Mr. Rahnama carefully inspected every area of the floor including a crawlspace, walls, and the exterior foundation. He spent a great deal of time explaining how the problems should be addressed to include discussing several options for correcting drainage problems around our home. Best of all, he gave us guidelines as to how much any contractor should charge for the doing the work. The very next day he emailed a written and signed report of his findings and recommendations. Very reasonably priced for his services and well worth the peace of mind a professional assessment of our home gave us. We would definitely use him again for future projects and highly recommend him

He came out and said that everything looked okay. When I called him again to look at something he should have the first time and then charged me again. He never spotted my leaking roof.

Hadi Rahnama of HRA Structural Engineers performed the inspection. I contacted him and was able to make an appointment within a week. He was right on time for the inspection. He was extremely thorough and completed the written report in less than one week. I contacted him to see if he had any names to recommend for the work he suggested we get done. Again, he was very prompt in responding. The price was either exactly what he had promised or even less. I would recommend him without reservations.

Since I do not reside in the area, my brother, sister and mother met with Mr. Hadi Rahnama. He arrived on time. He was very professional, very polite, taking time to explain to my elderly mother what he found, what she needed to point out to contractors and what steps she needed to take prior to hiring them [e.g., removing clutter]. His inspection found, much to our relief, the house is structurally sound, in need of work, but not to the extent that we previously thought. He followed up with a written report within 5 days of the inspection! He handled questions and concerns about the report in a very professional and polite manner, providing clarification as needed.

This property was a stressed sale and I had had a terrible experience with another structural engineer previously (CAC Consulting). (He "had no idea" how much it would cost to repair the damage.) So I hired Hadi for this property. Hadi is a no BS kind of guy. I told him I wanted to know the extent of the damage and how much it would cost to repair. He brought his contractor and they crawled through the crawl space. 45 minutes later I had my repair quote and a few days later I had the report.

We had a contract to purchase a foreclosed end unit townhouse. Home inspection revealed a cracked foundation. Inspector recommended we have a structural engineer evaluate because the crack was "significant". Saturday we called 4 companies. (By the way as of 1 week later, none of the other companies have returned my call) HRA was the only company that answered. We spoke to Hadi and he was able to perform the inspection the following morning. I was estatic that he could see us first thing Sunday morning. (He drove from Potomac to Laurel-Howard Count) He was very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions. My husband had to work the graveyard shift, so he made it there when Hadi was finishing up explaining everything to myself and our realtor. However, Hadi explained everything in detail to my husband. We were very impressed and would definitely use him again.

Very professinal, very knowldegable. He was friendly though all business. When he entered the house, he went right to work. He will send us a written report plus some recommendations on carpenters to help alleviate the problem.Only complaint: cost (he was considerably higher than others I talked to).

Their responsiveness was great. I called them on a Friday and they came out on a Saturday morning. I am a realtor and I had to have this thing taken care of, and I had called some other companies and they did not even get back to me. This guy understood the urgency and he gave me a valuable report as to whether the house needed emergency repairs or just a small repair. Thankfully, it turned out that it just needed a small repair.
