TLDR; I initially hired Heil to help with a hot water heater replacement and had such a great experience that we hired Eddie (and his growing team) for other issues--replacing a water hose bib, a gas hose replacement, and most recently helping check if I had a gas leak near our fireplace --Eddie resolved them all. They are now my go-to plumbers! Full review *** Why Heil *** As a new homeowner recently burned by bad experiences with a general contractor, I wanted to find the right plumber early on and not end up calling different ones every time I needed plumbing service. This search started with a water heater replacement (below). I chose Heil Plumbing DMV after an extensive search, contacting 7 local plumbing companies, which included chats with several master plumbers (all highly rated on Yelp and/or Angie's List). Having never had to call my own plumber before (prior apartment living), I'll admit that I wasn't expected some of the prices I got for plumbing labor in general, but Heil was very competitive and their customer service is well worth it. They had the second lowest quote (very close to the lowest), but Heil had much quicker and better communication. They also went the extra mile to help identify the plumbing materials for my home really. This extra service care put them over the top on the initial plumber selection. Throughout all 3 of my service calls, Eddie was always extremely professional. He kept a good distance and wore a mask for covid safety. He wore shoe covers whenever inside the home, and kept his work area tidy and cleaned up afterward. He is also very clear to call him back if we had any issues whatsoever with the work--and I never had to make that call. Eddie and Mengning were fantastic with the admin side as well--the quotes were in a nice pdf (some quotes I got from others were little more than back of a napkin numbers) and didn't hide anything from what we were actually charged. They sent out service reminders and arrival updates by text. They have a mobile payment system as well as online option with e-receipts that made it an easy payment experience. In talking with them, I also learned that Eddie is a 3rd generation plumber, spinning his own company off from Heil Plumbing out of Jessup, MD (also highly rated), in order to move his family to Rockville. While they are two separate companies, I like that Eddie has a good relationship with the sibling company, and told me they help with after-hour and emergency service calls--which is important to me when picking a plumber. ***Water heater & hose bib*** Bought a home with an 16 year old water heater and no service history. On site for the replacement, Eddie had to install an expansion tank to bring our home up to code requirements, but gave us that heads up in advance and included those parts & labor in the quote. He got the tank changed quickly and efficiently without much disruption in my home. Eddie made sure we had hot water before he left and checked back with us to ensure the hose bib cured fine (he had to do some pipework in the wall for the replacement). While working on the water heater replacement, I mentioned finding a frost free water hose bib with a stuck handle. He took a look and said the handle & inner parts were likely seized up, and would likely break if trying to open with force. I tried to open it with him there and sure enough it broke. He had a replacement part on his truck and we were able to schedule the additional time for him to fix it after finishing with the water heater at an acceptable price, saving us on some of the service trip cost. ***Gas lines*** *Oven* A couple weeks later, I wanted to replace the gas line to my oven. The gas hose from the pipe in the floor to my oven was way too short. Unfortunately, whoever installed the pipe coming out of the floor put it so close to the drywall that I struggled to get a large enough wrench on it without damaging the wall or the pipe. Plus, neither Home Depot or Lowes carried a large enough hose for the gas rating I needed. Normally, I would DIY small home repairs like this, but I didn't want to mess with possibly damaging a gas pipe and making it a major issue. Eddie came back out and saved the day--bringing the hose size I needed, changing it out, and checking to ensure there were no leaks and the oven was happy (I was too). *Fireplace* A few days ago, I started smelling gas at my fireplace after turning it off--more than normal. I vented the space well and still smelled it. Called Washington Gas, who was less then helpful. So again, not wanting to take chances with gas, I turned of the main line and had Eddie come out to help ensure I didn't have any gas leaks. He checked the house pressure, all the valve locations, and parts of the fireplace. He verified I was alright and likely just had an excess of residual gas, but suggested I get the fireplace inspected further by a fireplace contractor (makes sense).
