+ -1 moreI called to see my usual company's estimate for an a/c repair was overpriced, and told them I was happy to pay them to have them come out to look at our a/c. Spoke to George, who asked who my usual company was, and what the estimate was. He told me (1) he trusts the company I named and (2) that the other company's price was reasonable for the repair necessary, and given the problem I was having, he thought it was likely an accurate assessment of the problem. He advised me very patiently and kindly, and saved me the cost of a second opinion simply by having a short conversation with me on the phone. He also gave me a few ideas about how to proceed from here to see if the repair is fully necessary. That he also spoke respectfully of a competitor made me think very highly of him, so if for any reason, my usual AC repair person is not available, I wouldn't hesitate to call George at Frank Klein's business in a heartbeat.

Description of Work: Disconnected and caped gas line from stove being removed. Line was cut and moved behind a wall so that it could be reconnected if future use was desired. Reconnect pipes to radiator that had been shut off due to pipes that burst. Removed damaged pipes. Repaired rusted iron pipe that drained waste water and replaced it with PVC pipe.

I felt their fee was very moderate and fair after having used many other plumbers. I was also amazed that I had called their office and they were able to come the same day. + -1 moreIn March 2013 my 20 year old ac/heating system went up. I called BGand E, and Sears and F. J. Klein (the last I got from a referral from Cummins Elec.) F.J. Klein gave me the lowest estimate, and helped me understand what would be best to meet my needs and why. They were efficient and extremely helpful. Because they installed a system that took special filters that were hard to get, they assured me that they would supply them to me at a nominal cost when I needed them. True to their word, they responded immediately when I needed new filters, and the cost was less than I would pay for smaller filters at Home Depot or Lowes. They are great. I have referred them to two of my friends who were also extremely satisfied with their service.
Description of Work: Provided filters for a/c & heating system they installed in March 2013. They were professional, on time and extremely helpful.

+ 0 moreI loved dealing with Frank J Klein and Sons Inc. I called to have a leaking shower fixed in my parents' home while they were away. I called on a Tuesday afternoon and got an appointment for Thursday. Matt was right on time and was great. He identified the problem almost immediately. They didn't have a needed part with them, which is understandable because the house was custom built 60 years ago, but they put me in as the first call the next morning. Matt was right on time again and had the job finished in under a half an hour. He was even able to look at a slow drain and replace the tub faucet in the process. Everyone I dealt with was professional and friendly. The price was great. We just purchased an old house and I will absolutely call these guys for any plumbing needs that we have in the future.
Description of Work: Fixed leaking faucets in the shower. Interior parts of 60 year old shower handles needed to be replaced.

+ -1 moreThe serviceman (Matt B.) arrived right on time and immediately went to work. He did a thorough check of the systems and explained to me what he was doing each step of the way. He checked the indoor systems fan blades, coils, filters ECM motors, coil temperatures with an without auxilliary heat, outdoor capacitors, fan motors, and contactors. I am probably missing something. He also provided me with a quick assessment of having a UV light installed based on my inquiry. The serviceman was courteous and knowledgeable. Overall very professional.
Description of Work: We have been in a new construction home for almost a year and I wanted to get a baseline checkup on our Carrier Infinity HVAC system from someone other than the company that installed it.

+ -1 moreThe Frank J. Klein and Sons - Carrier install team arrived 30 minutes early and went right to work. They began outside and dismantled the old AC unit. Chuck and Eric arrived 20 minutes later and the began on the furnace. The installers was professional, courteous and polite. They answered questions as I was eager to know certain facts about various aspects of the installation and the overall functionality of the HVAC system. The install was a long endeavor about 8.5 hours but they were proficient. Frank J. Kline and sons is a family owned company that was also very appealing to me and they have been in business since 1929 and the are true professionals. I would certainly recommend them for anyone need HVAC service. I felt very confident that the install went fairly smooth and they cleaned up the work area superbly. One final note; I had a key in a magnetic pouch on my old AC unit and forgot to remove prior to the new install. Description of Work: I had been researching HVAC contractors and HVAC equipment for the last 15 months and after joining some HVAC forum's and talking to both consumers and contractors I was finally ready to take the plunge and invest in a new system. My home was built in 1998 but my A/C has been leaking for the last three years. The leak was pretty severe because I was leaking more than a half pound or more per year. Since the EPA has really cracked down on R22 Refrigerant (Ozone Harmful) its finally being phased out and they have made it VERY expensive to refill older systems. I contacted 10 contractor's - Trane - Carrier primarily. Frank J. Klein & sons was not even on my list as of yet. I contacted Anne Arundle HVAC, Fresh Air Concepts - both Carrier installers and they never got back to me. After numerous calls to other contractors I finally began recieving quotes from professional contractors. I discovered FJK & sons after going to the Carrier website and reviewing there lone response on angieslist which made me hesitant to say the least. Well I called George from FJK & sons and he agreed to come over and give me a quote. George arrived on time and we began talking about what I wanted done. I requested a manual J to be done and he was ready to setup and begin the process in just a few minutes. Once he completed the data for my home he said he would get back to me in a few days. George emailed me a few days later with the manual J data and I was satisfied with the overall results initially but when I read the full report and compared it to another manual J data that I know was correct I was confide as to whom to believe? So I contacted George again and told him I really needed to view the manual J data in detail and discuss it with him so he agreed and came by a few days later and we reviewed the data together. This is where George really shined in my opinion and won my confidence for the job. Once he reviewed the data he realized he had oversized the HVAC system for my home and promptly went from a 3 Ton AC system to a 2.5 system which we had previously discussed for my home. George was humble about the mistake and honest, that made me feel confident that this company would do a good job for me. If your big enough to admit a mistake and make necessary correction that huge in my book. Thanks George!!

+ 0 moreI obtained bids from three Carrier dealers -- two very large companies and Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc., a small, family-owned company that has been in business since 1929. The proposal from Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc. was the most competitive off the bat, although one of the large companies attempted to beat it. In the end, after speaking with both Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc. and the other company, I ended up with nearly identical proposals for the same equipment with the same warranty. After careful consideration, I decided to support the smaller business with the long track record. I felt that if there were any problems, the owner would have to answer for them, as he was the one who personally came out to bid on the job. In the case of the other two companies, I dealt with salesmen who I expected I would never deal with again, and who would have no involvement in the installation. In addition, Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc. provided references, and the one with whom I spoke had nothing but good things to say, having used them for years. On the day of the installation, Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc. was prompt and had a large enough crew to do the work efficiently. The owner came out to instruct the crew on the work to be performed. I felt perfectly comfortable with every one of the employees, all of whom were courteous and respectful. They were to return the next day to test the system, which needed to charge up overnight. During the night I discovered a leak from a valve in a line that feeds the humidifier. I called the company's answering service and got a prompt return call from one of the men who performed the work. He helped diagnose the problem and got the leak under control over the phone. The next day, in addition to completing the installation of the heat pump, he replaced the leaking valve with a better one, at no additional charge. The new unit is extremely quiet and there was absolutely no debris left from the work. While it remains to be seen if the investment in the best equipment will pay off in lower utility bills and more efficient heating and cooling, I am very satisfied with the level of service I received from Frank J. Klein and Sons, Inc.
Description of Work: One of our heat pumps had reached the end of its life. Frank J. Klein & Sons, Inc. installed a new, top-of-the-line heat pump and air handler, along with a humidifier for the new unit. In addition, they did some plumbing work to replace a defective valve that they came upon in the course of performing the work.
