We lost a dog. We had a dog put down last year and they were wonderful. They did a cremation service and gave us a little wooden box.

They are very good. I have been using them for 20 years. They are 110% very professional. It is a clean facility, they are very caring, and they treat the animals with utmost respect and consideration. They are a topnotch organization. It's probably a little pricey but it is worth it. I trust my dog to them.

My overall experience with them went very well. It is an excellent veterinary service, and Dr. lynch is very good. I have been taking my dogs there since we moved here. It started in December. I have three dogs. I have taken all of them to Dr. Lynch for checkups. One of those dogs is quite ill with a chronic illness and she is elderly. So, Dr. Lynch has been helping me on what is going to be through this chronic illness. He is very good about returning phone calls, making time for appointments, and all that kind of things.

I have been using Jacksonville Animal Hospital for many, many years. Many friends of mine and family members also use Jacksonville. There are several vets closer to me but I have been very happy with the quality of care I have received there. They are wonderful with routine care but have also been very responsive during emergencies.
A number of years ago I ran through their door with a bleeding dog in my arms. They grabbed him and ran. They saved his life.
When a cat of mine developed a brain tumor I was told of the possible treatment, which would have cost far more than I could afford and they advised against it because the prognosis was very, very poor. They did not try to push me into expensive surgery that had virtually no hope of success.
Dr. Lynch is, to me, as close to the perfect vet as anyone could possibly find.
I am shocked at the bad review I read on here. I have NEVER had a bad experience there nor has any of my family or friends.

No customer loyalty. Unable to schedule a quick or emergency visit during their office hours for a long term multiple animal family. Our dog was experiencing severe ear discomfort on Friday. We called our long term vet - Jacksonville Animal Hospital - only to find that no one could see the animal until Monday afternoon. Unacceptable. We have had multiple animals treated at this facility for over seven years. We do not expect favors or favorable treatment, but we do expect some consideration for and loyalty to long term customers. All we needed was someone to take a peak in the animal's ears and decide whether or not it was a serious condition or something that could be put off until Monday. Very poor service.
Response from Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital
"As the manager of Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital I wish to express my sincere apology to this family and their pet. I wish I had been aware at the time the incident occurred. We do not have a policy to turn away any pet in distress. We also make special arrangements when we are aware a pet may be suffering. I cannot speak directly to this specific case. Had I known the error would have been corrected immediately. I encourage anyone who may be dissatisfied with any aspect of our hospital to contact me directly. My business cards and direct e-mail address is available at the desk. We love to hear when our clients think we are doing a great job, but we NEED to hear when clients think we are not up to their standards."

Prior to the below experience, they removed large tumors on two of my dogs. Both dogs recovered and did well following their surgery. After the above results, I did not hesitate for them to care for my small dog when they recommended dental care.

Our small 12 year old dog had some bad teeth and one which was causing her pain. She was to be sedated and only the worst teeth removed. I emphasized that they remove no more teeth than absolutely necessary. After the surgery, I picked her up, I found that they had removed 16 teeth!!!! Well more than the very few we discussed and I was furious. After the dog arrived home, she scratched her mouth frequently and would not eat of drink. Pain medication did not seem to help her. We would find her lying in middle of the kitchen floor and have to move her around the house. She never ate or drank again. I attempted to spoon feed her varieties of fluids and chicken broth which she would not swallow. I called the veterinarian several times but were not of much assistance and continued to tell me she would get better. Within the week, our small 12 pound dog lost weight, her condition continued to decline and she rarely stood up. We were left with the grim task of returning the the vet to end her misery. We went from dental care to death of our dear pet in little over one week. I will never return there.

"September 2, 2011 As the new manager of Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital I have only just discovered we were on Angie's list. I do not know if this report was addressed prior to this date. As the dentistry in question was done more than 3 years ago we do not have the records. I am unable to research the actual surgery. Regardless, I wish to apologize to Member and the family. It was obviously a very difficult time for them."

Animal Boarding Kennels

Our dog is a rescue who doesn't like new people, but we have found kennels that understand that and seem to take it into consideration. Other times at Jacksonville were ok, but after the latest trip she has been more skittish than normal. A few weeks after being boarded at Jacksonville we tried Downtown Dog Spa and Resort, and everything went MUCH better. If you're willing to drive downtown, I would board your dog there. I have no evidence to say they are the reason why my dog was acting more skittish, because as a rescue she can be a bit quirky. Therefore I will talk about what bothers me the most about Jacksonville, and that's the limited hours. Some kennels are open 365 days/year (Downtown Dog Spa, for example) while Jacksonville is closed on holidays and every Sunday. Therefore you may end up paying for an extra day you don't really need, and not only that but your dog is not getting a whole lot of attention. They have staff that will show up to let the dogs out and feed them, but otherwise the dogs are confined for the entire day.
Response from Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital
"September 2, 2011 As the new manager of Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital I have only now discovered we were on Angie's List. Sorry for the delay in responding. The boarding facility at Jacksonville Vet now has a separate entrance from the hospital proper. The Animal Caretakers are with the pets from 7:30 in the morning until at least 8:30 in the evening. Each dog is walked with play time 3 times a day. We have a large play yard with toys for them. Frisbees, balls, tug toys. If weather permits they can stay out to play for 15 to 20 minuets at a time. They are always with an Animal Caretaker. Because the boarding entrance used to be only through the hospital proper we were unable to accommodate Sunday pickup because the hospital was closed and all computers were shut down. Sunday pick up can now be arranged if the client requests it."

I started going to Jacksonville Vet Hospital in May 1995. We were blessed to have a healthy Yellow Lab for close to 14 years. If ever there was a medical issue with her, we took to to JVH and knew she would receive excellent care with people who actually had gotten to know her. They always remembered her name and mine and treated us like family. A year before she died, we found out Shelby had Cushing's Disease. Dr. Jessica Evers was her treating doctor and explained EVERYTHING to us, from what we could do, should do and did do for Shelby. She was always there if we had a question and was just so loving to Shelby and treated her as if she were her own dog. On Feb 25 of this year, Shelby suddenly had something happen in her brain, that she could no longer balance, walk or do anything on her own. We called as soon as their office opened and were told to bring her in when we wanted. We had wanted to have her put to sleep (if she had to be), at home. But it all happened so quickly, we just rushed her in. Dr. Evers meet us at the back door and stayed with us, explaining what had happened and advised us to consider having her euthanized. She would not recover from this. Of coarse we did not want her to ever suffer, so we chose to have her painlessly put to sleep with me holding her. Dr. Evers told us everything to expect would happen. After it was over, she let me have time with her alone and was just so respectful and understanding. After a while she came in and cried with me and just got on the floor with me and just let me ball my eyes out and babble about Shelby. The point is, she is real! She is a person who understands how much we love our pets and she is a very supportive and well educated Doctor who I will be going to again when we decide the time is right to add another member to our family. I trust her and would, and have recommended many people to Jacksonville Vet Hospital.

My dog received her second-worst haircut ever from Kim at Jacksonville. Kim was hired this summer to replace a great groomer who left suddenly. My Wheaten Terrier had a great cut that was too long and she had some matting around her mouth and "armpits." Kim called to tell me that she was unable to clear the mats around the mouth and would need to clip the area. I appreciated her calling and gave her the okay to do so. When I picked up my dog that afternoon, her head was completely buzzed (including eyebrows, top of her head, etc) and the rest of her body looked as though it had been brushed, but not trimmed at all. My dog looked ridiculous (tiny, shaved head and big, puffy body) and was squinting because she's used to having a "fall" of hair over her eyes. Kim told me that without her beard, my dog looked like a poodle and so she shaved her whole head. I was furious, but wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. She charged me $60 for this. I don't understand. My friend took her Wheaten there the day before and he came out beautifully and she was only charged $40. I took my dog, two weeks later, to another groomer in town and they could not believe that my dog had been groomed two weeks prior and couldn't believe the hatchet job on her face. When I returned to pick my dog up, they added to this by saying that my dog had stickers and mats in between the pads on her paws that the groomer should have seen and removed. I will never return to Kim at Jacksonville Animal Hospital.

Kim has not been with us for quite a while. We have a new groomer. Paulette is excellent and has a very nice following. We are very happy to have her as a member of the JVH family."
