Initially, not too bad. The company sent a technician to look at the job. He diagnosed the problem and his office told me what was needed to fix the water heater. I told them to go ahead and get the part and install it when appropriate. I was mildly annoyed to have to pay for 2 visits, but I understand that time is money, so I was OK with that. What I wasn't OK with was the stain on the brand new carpeting I had installed just prior to the service call. It was obvious the technician had something on his work boots that rubbed into the new carpet right where he was working. I took a picture of it and sent it to Binder Plumbing fully expecting them to pay to have it cleaned. Instead they denied it was their fault and told me they would not pay for the cleaning. There were no other people in the basement at any time besides the Binder Plumbing technician. I have filed a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. I will never do business with them again

After reading positive reviews on Angie's List, we decided to hire Binder Plumbing to do some work on a house we just bought. We originally hired him to snake our main on Friday, May 8. We had given them a back history of the plumbing issues in the house and snaking the main was what they recommended to us. So they showed up on Friday afternoon and told us they didn't want to snake the main, instead they should scope it. We are first-time homeowners, and know nothing, and they seemed nice, so we said OK. When we asked the plumber how much, he said he didn't know, we would have to call the office. Well they scheduled us for first thing Monday morning and never gave us a price. In the meantime, over the weekend, our neighbors told us to call the county and to have them take care of our cleanout. So we made an appt. When the plumber showed up, we told him the county was coming to clean up our cleanout portion. He went ahead and scoped our main, and could see almost nothing, because his camera cannot see in water. so he scoped the cleanout portion and determined their were tree roots in the county's portion. The county showed up and said if they were an honest plumber, they would have told us to call the county for a cleanout before doing anything. They thought we had been tricked. The county did their part, and still our house was unusable. So we had another plumber coming over to replace the water heater, and we asked him to snake our main, too. After a couple of hours, he could barely get his snake out, because the tree roots were so bad! He only charged us half price because he couldn't fix the problem. He recommended a friend of his with a more powerful snake that is typically used for sewers. This guy came over for a few hours, and got a ton of stuff out, but said he didn't think the problem was fixed and we should have it scoped. I said we already paid $525 for a scope, and we weren't doing it again. he said, "What? why did you have it scoped before? and first of all, $525 is a heck of a lot of money for a scope." He said we should call them back and say we have had multiple hours of snaking done and NOW we need a scope and demand they do it for free. I called Binder to discuss what this plumber told us, and they said they rented the camera and they paid $525 for the rental. (Clearly a lie about a rental price, I doubt they are scoping out of the goodness of their heart for free.)
Also, my husband has been asking them for the images since Monday morning, and now it's Thursday, and he still doesn't have them. When we called again this morning, they said they would send them later today. But if it's a rental, how can they send them to us if we don't already have them and they returned the camera? Multiple people have told us we got cheated by this company and we agree.

"We had originally scheduled our appointment with the client for April 28th. We called to verify someone was home when our technician was on his way from his previous appointment. We had to leave a message. We had blocked off 2 hours of time for the service call. We finally got a call back from (Members name removed), stating that he would have to reschedule. What about our time lost? We reschedule to Friday, May 8th. When our technician arrived (Members name removed) took him around the house to show him the various drains that were clogged. Our technician explained to the customer that the drain issue he was having at the various locations was consistent to the main sewer line being backed up or compromised. The customer decided he did not want a drain clean done that day, but wanted to find the source of all the issues and elected to have camera & locate done the Following Monday, May 11th. Our office called (Members name removed) and spoke with him about the charge for Monday being $525.00. He said ok, and wanted to know if there would be a charge for today’s visit. We told him since he is having the cameraings done on Monday there would be no charge for Friday’s visit. He again, we did not charge the customer for our time on site on Friday May 8th. On May 11th, Our technician arrived with the camera and locator. (Members name removed) agreed that he wanted the main line camera’d from the clean out in the basement to the street. We camera’d as far as we could and then could not camera any further. There was a blockage or compromise in the pipe. Our technician camera’d from the outside clean out and ran into a blockage, meaning there was something inside the pipes or the pipes were compromised. The homeowner wanted David to camera again from inside the house to the street. Typically we charge for each cameraing. We did 3 separate locate and cameraings that day and only charged for one. We were trying to help the homeowner understand what was going on. Our technician was told that the county was coming out to look into the outside clean out to the street. The customer paid the service fee of $525.00 as quoted. We told the customer that they would need to get a quote for replacing the sewer line. That was the last we spoke to the customer. We have tried to be accommodating with this customer, by explaining all of our steps and results. We feel their lack of understanding as to how the draining of the house fixtures work, led to their misunderstanding. Even after two different plumbers tried to clean the lines unsuccessfully, they agreed that the line was compromised and needed to be replaced. We will not be refunding their cost for the service. Our cost for the service an rental fees equated to the fee that was billed. We have forwarded the video of the camering to (Members name removed) home address by fed ex home delivery – adult signature required for delivery. The file was too big to send by email. It was over 160,00KB."

BGE was out installing a new Smart Meter and stated they detected a leak at our kitchen stove, and told us they would need to shut off the gas to our house and we would need to contact a plumber licensed in gas to repair the leak. The guys from Binder came out and could not determine a leak and also pointed out that the gas had never been shut off. So, thanks Binder ... but what in the world is BGE even doing?

Their prices are not the lowest. They're really dependable and have done a great job. Seven years ago, they completely gutted the kitchen and put in all new cabinets, etc. I've used them for the last 20 years on a referral from a professional organization that I belong to. I've had them come in and do minor work and major projects. Anytime I have anything, I call them. They're really nice people. I believe they're really honest. They're my go-to plumber.

I originally got in touch with Binder Plumbing through Whirlpool. They're on the list of Whirlpool reps that can handle warranty work. The water heater was making horrific noises (groaning, whistling tones) and water was rushing out of the spill off at the top of the water heater. The water heater was only a month old, so I thought that was the reason, hence why I called Whirlpool, and hence why they sent out a tech.
Despite calling them on short notice (Monday morning), they were able to send someone the same day to take a look at the water heater. In under 15
minutes, the plumber they sent found the problem, and in another 10 minutes, he was able to run the diagnostics to prove it. My pressure relief valve had gone bad unnoticed, and it caused a backup valve at the top of the pipes above the water heater to go bad. The PSI in my house was way higher than it should have been as a result. He didn't have the parts to fix it then, and they'd squeezed me in at the end of the day, but he gave me a quote on the spot. The prices he quoted for the parts were within a few dollars of what I would have had to pay if I bought them in a store. In fact, after tax, his price probably would have come out the same or lower. His labor cost was about what I expected, and he estimated the job would take anywhere from 1-3 hours. I happily agreed and set up an appointment two days later.
He came back Wednesday right when he was scheduled to with all the parts and beat his own estimate, fixing both valves in an hour with plenty of time for me to get to work on time. No mess, no fuss. I would definitely hire this plumbing company again.

Hall bathroom:
Replaced toilet (including supply line, shutoff
valve, and floor mounting flange). We wanted a quality toilet that was
not a and quot;power flushand quot;, because they are so loud. The recommendation of the
Kohler Cimmaron series was a perfect solution. It is as effective as a
power flush, but without the horrendous noise.
Replaced medicine
cabinet and lighting. Removed old surface-mounted cabinet with built-in
lighting, and replaced with flush-mounted cabinet with separate lighting
fixture. This required cutting drywall and studs, framing out for
cabinet, and re-routing electrical for light fixture. Drywall work and
painting was impeccable, as was the installation of the fixtures.
Replaced
vanity, counter top, sink, and faucet. Custom-cut granite top, and
custom-modified cabinet. Again, flawless products with flawless
installation.
Binder is a family-owned, family-run business, and
they have always exceeded my expectations. The bathroom renovation was
their third call. I have called them previously for a stopped up toilet
on one occasion, and a leaky pipe on another. Their responses on the
prior two occasions were both within the hour, and service and price
were exceptional (both times). We visited their showroom in the
beginning of December to decide the details of the bathroom remodel. Mr.
Binder was very helpful with the decision-making process. Our only
request was that the job would be completed before December 31st,
because we were hosting a New Year's Eve party. We were not disappointed. It was completed before Christmas.

I have had issues in the past with sewer line back ups. The old terra cotta pipe in the county is prone to having roots grow into the sewer lines. I called Binder on a Thursday late afternoon and they had a truck at my house promptly at 9am Friday. The plumber ran a snake clear out and pulled out some roots to unblock the line.
The plumber also advised me that the county will clear a line for tax payers once each year for no charge, or in an emergency.

Binder did a great job of cleaning. The worker was in the house for only 10-15 minutes. They were not particularly clean about it. They did not finish the job, they went down a certain amount on the pipes and then stopped and it kept backing up so we had to get another company to finish the job.

I called this company because they had installed the circulator 12 years before. When I called, I told them that the circulator was leaking, but Dave came to look at it anyway, decided it was leaking, and went off to buy a new one. The replacement went smoothly and he cleaned up well. However I was charged for 1.5 hours of labor. At least 45 minutes of that was his trip to the store.

They are the same company that installed the boiler a while ago, so I know that they always do a good job. Once they also took out and installed a new sink. They have a minimum charge of $100, which I think it's a little bit high because sometimes what they have to do is really minor.

The plumber arrived at 9:00 a.m. (instead of 10:00 a.m.), which I was happy about. Ken was courteous, but didn't offer his name until asked. As an aside, his appearance was a little sloppy (what looked like Cheetos in his beard), and he tracked some mud in with no apologies or attempts to clean up. I showed him the sump pump in the basement and he was able to open a release valve to let the water drain out into the tank. Incidentally, he left his tools in the van and asked to use my screwdrivers. This is SO annoying! Anyway, once he did this, the sump pump functioned normally. He did point out to me that the pitch of the drain pipe likely needs to be corrected in the future (I had suspected this since I bought the house, but never had any problems until now) as it dips underground before coming up out of the ground, potentially pooling water that could freeze in cold weather. Before he left, I asked him to tighten up a loose sink handle in my bathroom, which he did.

My outdoor water line was damaged when I had the sewer line repaired. Paul Binder came and gave an estimate on-site and sent me the same written estimate the next day. The situation was complicated by a 4 foot high stone wall fronting my property. Paul wanted to avoid damaging the wall so he tunneled (moled) under the wall to connect the water line from my property to a place where the city could tie in. The company did an excellent job. When they were finished they packed the dirt down tightly for future landscaping and cement work. Paul deserves great credit for his persistence with the city DPW who did not want to connect the water line at their vault. Paul went the extra mile to make sure the city did what it was supposed to do. He was immediately available and he runs a very professional company. He gave a fair price for a complex job. His price was competitive with other bids I'd received.

The plastic shower arm broke off inside the wall. My homeowners insurance recommended the company. Two plumbers came. They cut a hole in the wall and replaced the arm. They accidentally punched a 3'' hole in the shower stalls plastic ceiling. They cleaned up after themselves and told me that it was an easy damage and I should be able to repair it myself.
