A George Pilat Home Inspection Company

I checked Angies list before I called George but this time it let me down. George showed up on time. We started by walking the perimeter of the house. It was at this point that one of several themes to his inspection style came to light. He talked a great deal about roof slope. I can understand mentioning it but it pervaded throughout the 3 hours he was there. There is nothing I can do about roof slope. Next, he didn?t get up on the roof to inspect it and all the exhaust and chimney pipes that come out of it. (He should have been reviewing the rubber caulking and shingles.) The next recurring theme was lubrication. He went on about how all the windows needed to be greased up I think he recommended 'Slip all'. When we got to the crawl space he refused to go in. This shocked both my realtor and I. How else was he going to check the foundation, or supporting structure or for pests. Both my realtor and I did go in while he wandered the house. And at no point did he show me how to use the HVAC, Hot Water Heater, or even the Oven! The final detail about our 3 hour walk I will add is he took 2 personal phone calls from people inquiring about scheduling home inspections. While not surprising in a cell phone world, he interrupted conversations with me and the realtor to answer them. Most inspectors give you a printed report with accompanying photos of problem areas to be attached to the home purchase contract. He hand wrote, in bad handwriting, filling in the blanks on a self published report and did not take any photos. When he left I had to take photos, labeling the defects and I sent those not his report to the seller. I was lucky that the seller took my word about the inspection and corrected the defects or else I might have had to have the home re-inspected. And I pulled out several items missed by Georges inspection. If I found things what would another inspector have found? In conclusion, George might have years of experience but anyone who regularly shops at Home Depot would have been able to do a comparable inspection. At least on my house.

George showed up at exactly the time we established. He spent the entire day inspecting our home. He performed tests not just once, but 2 times to make sure he was getting the proper result. Most home inspections last a few hours, ours lasted the entire day. George was meticulous about his work. Once he was finished, he followed up with an amazing detailed report on his findings. He did a top job from start to finish.
