From the beginning there was friction. His first estimate was twice what it should have been. I told him that it was unacceptable and he did come down probably 35 percent, but little did I know that this would mean all substandard contractors. When framing the pocket door for the closet, I told him that it was put in backwards and he actually charged me for re-doing it. The tile work was substandard and had to be re-grouted. The painting was amateurish (done by the person who was the "helper" during the demolition), and I had to get a professional painter in to redo it. The shower fixtures were never installed properly, and I had to pay to have a competent plumber come in and re-do it (at my expense). The toilet was never seated properly and I had to have a competent plumber come in and re-seat it (at my expense) . Although there were enough bull-nose tiles, one was put in that has a terrible chip. A radiant heating mat was installed under the tile and the tile is totally uneven. The accent tile in the shower was put in wrong and had to be redone, and the contractor attempted to have me pay for this. Substandard lighting was put in the closet and I had to go buy appropriate lighting. I had to have a different contractor redo the drop-down attic staircase that was put in wrong and would not stay closed. The solar tube was not installed properly in the roof, causing a leak that I had to have the roofing contractor out to reseal (at my expense). From beginning to end it was a nightmare.
