Miller's Lawn service is no longer in business. I was a much satisfied customer for many years and was not happy in not receiving a call, email, or snail mail from Joe Miller that he is no longer in business.

The guys swam in like locusts, mow and edge the front and back yards, and are gone in 15 minutes. it takes me an hour and 15 minutes just to mow and another 30 to trim. When the weather prevents them from coming during the week, they come on weekends. They are entirely reliable and I don't have to worry about what the yard looks like when I'm out of town.
I had to contact them once about the contract. I had been travelling and missed the renewal agreement in the pile of mail. They contacted me out to ask if everything was okay. It was a very quick, friendly, and professional. They are very easy people to do business with.

The easiest way to get in contact with him is via email and he is very responsive. As this is our second year of service, he mailed us the contract and laid out the charges in advance. There is a small discount for paying for the entire year in a lump sum. The major service of the year is paid after it is completed and then we receive a monthly bill. I like using a small business that is locally owned.

Used Miller to edge and mulch for two or three years and was satisfied. This time, we also asked them to trim a 20 year old, about 10 foot high, double row holly hedge that spanned the entire width of the house and hid our air conditioning unit and meters. We instructed him to take about 2 feet of the top, round it a bit, and lightly trim the front. I paid in advance. Mr. Miller instructed his men (who had very little English) and then left for the day telling me that we should call him if we were dissatisfied for any reason at all. They did a good job on the mulching and edging. However, they decimated our holly hedge. They literally de-nuded the entire back row of the hedge--leaving just 8 foot tall bare stumps with a few leaves on top. They also trimmed the front row too heavily. Now you can easily see the air conditioning unit and all the other ugly stuff along the side of the house. I doubt that the back row will ever fill in again. I called and calmly explained the problem and my unhappiness with the result. I asked Mr. Miller to call and come by to see what his men had done.. No response. Called again a week or so later and reminded him of his assurance that I should let him know if there were any problems and asked him to come see the hedge. No response. It's been about a month now and nothing. I might forgive what his men did to our hedge, but not his refusal to get back to me. Very unprofessional. There is no way I can recommend this company.

We have used Millers Lawn Service five times. Four of those times, we have been pleased with the services provided. The fifth time, on March 27, was unsatisfactory and has resulted in our terminating our agreement with Millers.
The company's owner, Joseph, is usually very responsive via email - although his emails can be abrupt and a bit rude, as other reviewers have noted. The company did a very good job cleaning up our yard last summer and maintaining the yard during the fall. However, the two services that we wanted, and described in great detail via email and in person with Joseph, have not been completed as agreed.
First, we requested weed treatment for the lawn. Last summer, we were told that it was not time for the treatment. In the fall, Millers still said the treatment was not timely. On March 24, 2013, Millers confirmed that a preemergent weed treatment would be applied to the lawn; but then this service was not provided, although we were billed close to $800 for a spring cleanup that included this service. On March 27, Joseph said that the weed treatment was scheduled for "next week." On April 4, in response to my inquiry about when the weeds would be treated, Joseph again wrote via email, "next week." As of today, April 27, the weeds are growing out of control and Millers has not returned to our property to finish their work from March 22.
Additionally, we cautioned Millers Lawn Service about removing ivy from our neighbor's property while servicing ours. Specifically, on July 23, 2012 we wrote the following email to Joseph:
"One warning: the next door neighbor (with the unkempt lawn and ivy on everything) is a real grouch. Please cut the English ivy back to the chain link fence and please remove the ivy from our flowers and trees - but please don't cut the ivy off the fence. The neighbor maintains that the fence ivy is his ivy (no matter that it's growing over our lawn)."
In September and October 2012, we reminded Millers Lawn Service of the need to treat our neighbor's property with care. Nevertheless, during our March 2013 treatment, Millers' crew cut the ivy from our neighbor's fence. Our neighbor has threatened us with a lawsuit due to the damage to his property.
Because of the two problems with our recent interaction with Millers Lawn Service, we cannot recommend them.

This is the third year that I am going to be using them and I am thoroughly satisfied in every way. They are always on time. They are always here when I expect them to be here. They did exactly what I wanted them to do. Their work is excellent. Their pricing is fair and competitive.

The owner is very hands-on and really cares about doing the best work that he can. Furthermore, if something isn't done to my satisfaction, then he responds quickly to correct the issue.

Like many, I am working more and more hours at my job ... and with less time to work on my house, the yard got completely out of hand. Miller's lawn came and cleaned up everything exactly as I asked. I now have them do my grass cutting and general cleanup on a regular basis. They are always prompt, professional and thorough. What a relief to have that chore off my plate.

I hired Joseph Miller and his company to take care of our lawn this spring (i.e., 2012), and waited for the end of the season to make this review more representative of the services performed.
I am happy to state what we are quited satisfied with Joseph's performance. He and his people are very responsive, helpful, and professional. Whenever I have an issue with our yard, I email Joseph, and he is always happy to help. The prices he charges I consider fair (e.g., $35 per mowing), and the work is always done cleanly and professionally.
So, after the first season, I give him all A's. Hope it will stay the same way in the future.

Mr. Miller arrived on time and was very courteous. He gave me a not-to-exceed quote of $1000, completed the work, and billed me about 3 weeks later. Although the price that I was charged ($531.25) was fair for the work performed, I was disappointed that there was still quite a lot of ivy left on the hillside. The trees were pruned, the dead wood was removed, and it generally looked much better, but my largest concern was not addressed - the ivy. And imagine my surprise when I took it upon myself two months later to complete the task, and found 10 (yes 10) used tires hidden underneath the ivy. Certainly Mr. Miller did not put them there, but his workers should have found them and removed them during the process of cleanup.

Work was of inconsistent quality. Contract included weeding bedding areas as needed, but had to call when weeds were an eyesore in the beds. After a heavy rain, the crew mowed leaving large ruts in the lawn. I wrote saying I would not pay until someone contacted me to discuss repairs. I never heard from Miller's again, no call, no further bills, and no further mowing occurred. I highly recommend you avoid this lawn service.
Response from MILLER'S LAWN SERVICE
"Things did not happen exactly as customer stated. First, I'd like to say that we worked for this customer for 3 years with no issue at all until 1/1/2012. The lawn was not turf or fescue it was all weeds. The more weeds you have as lawn, the more seeds are generated and grow in the bedding areas. Last year we did have issues with the weeding of bedding areas. Primarily in the backyard. This customer has 2 large dogs. They deficate in the backyard. This was the big issue in the backyard because they didn't clean up the poo. Who really wants to pull weeds in an area COVERED with dog poop. BIG DOG POOP! Nobody. My guys hated going to this house because the backyard was disgusting. I asked several times through email and letters attached to the customer billing statement about cleaning it up. The customer always replied with we will try to be better about it. They never did. So yes, I agree we didn't do a very good job of weeding the backyard. If the customer cleaned up behind the dogs before we came, it would have never been an issue. We did create tire marks in the front yard cutting the grass one week last fall. Guilty as charged. I was notified by the forman of the crew when it happened and the following week I sent a crew out to correct the problem. Very minimal damage. Tire marks from the mower that slid on the hill. We filled the area in with topsoil and overseeded the front yard. Problem resolved. This all happened in September 2011. I talked with the customer after the front lawn was fixed and also told him I wouldn't charge him anything else for the rest of the season because he made such a big deal about it. We completed all agreed upon work as stated in our contract, which included leaf clean up. No charge for any service that was performed after the issue with the tire marks in the front yard. The leaf clean up was a $600 job alone. This spring I decided not to continue working for this customer. Primarily because of the dog poo. And after talking with the guys that work for me we all agreed nobody wants to deal with that. So, I didn't send a renewal contract to this customer. Had nothing to do with the tire tracks in the front yard. Had everything to do with dog poop! The customer called in the spring and said he hadn't received a renewal contract and thats when I told him we were not going to be able to work for you anymore because of the dog poop problem. He said he understood and that was the end of our conversation. Until today 8/29/2012 I have not heard from seen, emailed or contacted this customer in any way. So I am not sure why a year later he writes this report, other than we do work for several neighbors and his yard currently looks worse than it ever did while we maintained it. I don't know. Called Joseph Miller and he quickly returned my call and we set up an appointment for an estimate. The estimate was very fair. I had used a different landscape company before and the estimate was the same price but what I was asking for was more than twice the work. The crew showed up as promised and worked all days. The work done was beyond my expecatations and the landscape looks great. I will use them again.

We contacted Miller’s Lawn Service for an estimate and suggestions on what to do with an overgrown and sloppy backyard.
Joseph agreed to meet at 5:00AM on a weekday to look at the yard, which was very accommodating to our work schedule. Since moving in we were overwhelmed with what do with the backyard and its “gardens” that were inherited from the previous owner and in bad shape- nothing but weeds. We had several other landscapers provide thoughts/estimates all of which involved replanting the gardens at astronomical costs.
Joseph suggested that we remove the gardens and lay sod- an option we had not considered. We really have no interest in maintaining gardens and liked Joseph’s proposed solution and the price he quoted.
The yard looks amazing. Replacing the overgrown gardens with sod has nearly doubled the space we have in the yard. We found Miller’s Lawn Service and Joseph to be extremely professional, easy to work with, and are very pleased with the quality of work performed.

We have an annual contract with Mr. Miller's company for weekly cutting/edging at 45$ per week. This is our second month under contract, and the service has been great. The lawn looks great, his men are fast and efficient. No problems. Will continue to utilize this service, and potentially hire for additional services (e.g. fall cleanup/spring cleanup ).

Once MLS responded to my initial phone call, a crew appeared promptly and I signed a contract for some landscaping and mowing for the season, which included picking up sticks and weeding as necessary. On their first visit the services were provided as described above. Then everything fell apart.About five days after that visit, my former lawn contractor's crew mowed my grass by mistake. The owner of the company is a young man who keeps meticulous records (I had not renewed my contract with them) so I was surprised, and phoned him within about a day to flag the error. He said he had realized the mistake and had already told his foreman not to tend to my property again. MLS sent me a bill for the landscaping (mowing was to be charged at the end of the month). I paid it, anticipating in good faith that they would complete their work since the jobs to be done were small. Over the next couple of weeks we received no rain and the grass grew slowly - at least that is what I assumed because I never saw anyone come to mow it (I work at home). Then we got a small amount of rain and the grass grew noticeably. Still no one came to mow and my frustrating attempts at communication with MLS began. No one answered their phone over a couple of days during the week of 4/16. We were expecting days of serious rainfall, beginning Saturday afternoon. On Saturday morning 4/21, I emailed MLS, saying my lawn needed mowing badly; and mentioned my former contractor's one time mowing error weeks before, and the two other lanscaping items I expected to be completed. The owner replied with what I can only describe as a totally unsatisfactory reponse, indicating that rarely were his clients dissatisfied with his company's work and he really did not see what the problem was. About the landscaping, he insisted that his company always completes their work and that since I had paid for it I considered it satisfactory. He said they had been mowing the lawn, but twice they came out over the weeks and it was clear someone else had already mowed it and so they stopped and took me off their mowing list. I replied that if he did not know what the problem was he should come and take a look at my lawn. I informed him that actually, I had not indicated my satisfaction with the completion of the landscaping work and briefly described the small jobs yet to be done. I told him (again) that another party had only mowed the lawn once, by mistake - quite some time ago. (In fact, I checked with that company's owner again to make sure.) I also wrote that I had a contract with Miller's, and that if they had decided to stop mowing I would have appreciated being notified (which is a provision in the contract). He said no one had answered their phone during the week because no one was in the office! However, he noted he and his crew had tried to call me on a few occasions (presumably over the weeks), to no avail. At least I had left them messages. I reminded him that over this period no messages from his organization had been left on my voice mail. It poured rain over the weekend. On Monday (4/23), he emailed in a conciliatory manner that he had restored me to their mowing list and would send a crew as soon as he could. By the time it was dry enough for them to come, my lawn looked like an overgrown pasture. They did a fine job of mowing and trimming, but oddly, the head of the crew said he was not instructed to do anything else (i.e. the small jobs that still needed attention). I had to go away a few days later, for almost a week. When I returned the grass was again grossly overgrown. My attempts over the next week to contact MLS by phone or email were not answered. I have not seen them since their last visit at the end of April. I finally contracted with another lawn service for the season, and left both a phone and email message with Miller's that I had done so. To their credit, MLS has not charged me for the mowing they did manage to do. These people initially abandoned my contract, were then inaccessible, and ultimately chose to act unprofessionally about meeting their obligations. All of this difficulty over mowing a lawn and tying up a couple of loose ends in the yard? Ridiculous!
Response from MILLER'S LAWN SERVICE
"Let me start by saying everything we agreed to do was done to this customers satisfaction. What started the problem is upon completion of the agreed work we were to be paid in full! The customer was home but said she had no checks and had to send it through her on line banking. The agreement was payment in full upon completion. That didnt happen and we didnt get paid for over a month with numerous phone calls and messages to the customer. 2 Contracts were signed. One for the clean up and the second was for weekly mowing. The claim of us not completing the clean up is BS. Customer was home for the entire job and was totally satisfied. So after a month of calling her and not receiving any return call or email, I did receive the check for the clean up6 weeks later. Now remember, we havent been back since the clean up. No mowing or anything. " why would I do more work for someone who hasnt paid for what she agreed to nor has she attemted to contact us in any way? Would you?Crazy. Anyway. I deposit the check, check clears, and wouldnt you know it, The customer calls the very next day. Some surprise huh. Happens all the time. The customer then proceeds to tell me we havent honored our agreement, we havent mowed her lawn and she disappointed because such great reveiws and on and on not one mention of disapointment or any issue related to the clean up. So I agree to put the customer on the mowing list. Well, the crew shows up to mow and it had been mowed. Total waste of 3 men x 1 hour to get there not do anything and move on to the next house. I call the customer and leave a message that someone else is cutting the grass, I ask to please call me and let me know whats going on. I get a call from the customer explaining it was a mistake and that the previous company did it accidentally. " Ok whatever" I give it one more go and say ok we will keep you on the list but if it happens again, we are done. The following week we were behind, and when that happens, I go out anfd work with the crews. Not very often but when I am needed to be out mowing, I will. That being said, I ended up at the customers house to mow it that week. Thats when Mrs. Blah showed the true intention. As we were unloading to begin mowing the lawn weed the beds and trim, Mrs. Blah came outside and began to verbally insult and abuse us. Yall suppose to be cutin my grass every week. I just got off the phone with Mr. Miller and he said yall gonna fix these areas were the construction company messed up mu stuff and on and on. The whole time I was just wide eyed and jaw on the floor from this woman. She was attempting to scam us. So I simply said I was not aware of any of the things you are talking about but would get back to her about it after talking to the boss. She had no clue I was Joseph Miller. We proceeded to cut the lawn. That was the last straw for me. I terminated the agreement with this customer. and that was the end of it. No we never did get paid for the mowing."

Overall, I was pleased with the result. Mr. Miller came out to find out what work I wanted done and to see the yard. I showed him around and explained what I wanted in each area. He gave me a quote, which was exactly what I was charged after the work was done. The yard looked great when they were finished; better than I remember seeing it in a long time. It's motivated me to maintain it since.
I did have one problem. During the initial interview, I told Mr. Miller not to touch the lilac bush. After the work was done, there were about two blooms left on the lilac. It had been severely pruned while in full bloom. This was very upsetting, but there was nothing that could be done at that point.

It went great; after our first interaction, there really wasn't anything to do, as they knew what I wanted, they did it, no muss, no fuss.
