The visit went great. My cat is very scared of strangers. I knew that the visit would be traumatic to the cat but enlisting the services of a vet was necessary. Dr. Malachi suggested putting the cat in the bathroom prior to the visit to eliminate the need to chase and catch her. She called when she arrived so that she didn't need to ring the bell to scare the cat on arrival. She was very friendly and was able to treat the cat with the least amount of drama possible. All the other details were good too - She arrived on time, provided clear post-visit instructions, was easy to contact etc.

For people looking for a good in home vet Housecalls for Pets has always provided great service and I would definitely recommend them.

Dr. Perl usually doesn't travel to Gaithersburg, but made an exception and I'm glad he did. He arrived promptly when he said he would. He chatted for a bit with me about any concerns and got a history of my cat's behaviors. He then quickly and efficiently did the exam and vaccinations. He was warm and friendly and provided some great advice. He noticed that she had a little dandruff and recommended a quick and cheap way to handle it, which worked beautifully. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Called Dr. Perl in the morning and got an appointment for him to come over that afternoon (Score!)... He showed exactly in the middle of the 30-minute window he gave me (Score!)... I tried to contain my cat so that the doctor could see him but he said to go ahead and let him roam until we were done with the paperwork. We went through the cat's medical records and reviewed the results. Dr Perl was very casual and didn't seem like he was in a hurry to come and go like some vets I've dealt with. I felt (and so did my cat) that I had his complete attention for the appointment. We talked about all aspects of the cat's care including feeding, housing, dental care etc. Once the paperwork was done, it was time to locate the cat, who of course had made himself scarce. Dr. Perl again was very calm and laid back by it all and we did a room by room reconnoiter for Patrick the cat. Dr. Perl was right there with me on his hands and knees looking under all the beds, in all the rooms, until we found the cat back in the living room under the couch. Dr. Perl got down on the ground and managed to secure Patrick for his exam. Patrick was obviously not happy but Dr. Perl was very adept at putting him at ease and calming him down (as much as is possible for a doctor's exam). Dr. Perl gave a thorough exam and then let him loose at which point Patrick hightailed it again. One way that I could tell that Dr. Perl had traumatized Patrick was that the cat actually came back in the room and was looking for head rubs before Dr. Perl even left. We spent some time talking about the exam and some suggestions for dental care. Dr. Perl said if anything came up he could talk us through most situations by phone.
When he told me how much it cost, or should I say how little, I was pleasantly flabbergasted.
Great service, great demeanor, and great price and I didn't have to leave the house... (SCORE!)
Would and will DEFINITELY recommend Dr. Perl's services to all my friends who have pets.

I contacted Dr. Perl through a referral and left him a message to which he replied within a couple of hours... I wanted my dog to be as comfortable as possible and did not want to wait for an emergency and have to take him to a cold and busy vet clinic. My dog had survived many ordeals and gave another 4 months’ fight to cancer but he was now sad and in pain... it was time...
Although this was the worst day of my life, Dr. Perl made the and quot;experienceand quot; as bearable as possible... He kept talking to me as I lay next to my dog petting him to prevent me from losing it and break down in front of him (which, once I realized what he was doing, reminded me of the Animal Reiki book I had bought a few month back after the cancer diagnostic to help me channel positive energy to my dog as he was fighting his last battle); He gently reminded me that there would be time for sorrow and grief but it wasn’t now and he reminded me not to stress him during this time. He was totally thinking of my dog, making sure that his stress level was minimal and allowing him to transition peacefully... my baby fell asleep in my arms and I immediately felt a sense of relief for him as if i was feeling his pain and hurt vanish... I think Dr. Perl has a great humanity and I am glad I called him. I am glad he was there to make sure I was keeping it together for my boy.
Three weeks later, I am still going through the worst pain of my life as I miss my companion every minute of the day but I am
grateful to Dr. Perl for coming over and gently allowing my baby to suffer no more.

Dr. Perl has visited our home on three occasions so far, to provide care for a dog who is afraid of traveling in cars. He has always been prompt, scheduling appointments for the same day. Our dog is relaxed, and he is thorough and efficient. His prices are also very reasonable. We are very pleased with his service.

I have used him twice now and plan to continue using him.

My dog had taken ill during the early morning hours of 1/27. She lost control of her bladder and when I let her outside she couldn't/wouldn't get up. I finally got her back inside after a couple iof hours and went back to sleep. I woke up and she had lost control of her bodily functions again and I let her outide again. I couldn't get her up again. I called some friends to help me get her to emergency clinic and when they arrived they had gotten several numbers from the clinic for 'travelling vets' - all of which I called and had to leave messages and no one returned my call in a timely manner (one called at 7 p.m). I then remembered I had called Dr Perl a number of years ago and I called him. I left a message and he called back within about 20 minutes. I explained the situation and he said he wasn't sure what he could do and I asked him if he could put her to sleep and he s.aid he would. At the tiume he was out with family at a restaurant. but said he could be at my house within the hour. I got him to promise me he would come nd he said he would. He arrived about 30-45 minutes later. He checked out my dog being very gentle and very respectful He gave her a tranq and then put her to sleep. Dr. Perl could not have been nicer and he was very compassionate. He made an unpleasant task a whole lot easier.
If I get another pet, Dr. Perl will be my Vet!

Dr. Perl arrived and immediately bonded with my cat. He was gentle, yet firm and I could tell that he truly loves animals. He even semi-cleaned his teeth without charging me. He drew blood (my cat was calm the entire time) and gave him an overall check-up. He also provided his vaccinations and some eye cream for a distressed eye. I am so pleased with the service he provided!!!

My dog's health had been failing for some time. I could tell that it was time to let her go. I didn't want to increase her pain by having her endure a car ride and I am also disabled so I didn't want to risk hurting her by trying to lift her myself. Dr Perl talked to me on the phone first and patiently listened to my situation. He didn't decide for me, he asked me how he could help. he very carefully explained my options (for continued care or euthanasia). We scheduled a time when I thought I could be ready. He arrived promptly and I immediately liked his and quot;bedside mannerand quot;. He took his time to listen to my description of my dog's symptoms and he made sure I was prepared for the process. He greeted my dog warmly and encouraged my other pets to be in the room with her. Despite my decision, he helped ease my mind by examining her and confirming my suspicions about the amount of pain she was in and her prognosis. He distracted me gently by asking about my favorite memories with Chewie. He even made sure Chewie had her favorite treats before she went to sleep. I appreciated how quickly, efficiently and painlessly he completed each step. He even took time to sit with me afterwards. Dr Perl was caring, kind and gentle....yet very clear about what to expect. Although this was the first time I had used his services, he treated us as though we were long-time clients. Even the cost of his services was reasonable. This was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. Dr. Perl truly helped ease everyone's pain. I look forward to having him return to care for my healthy pets. I cant thank him enough! He's a gem!!

I called Dr. Perl late in the morning of the day I needed his services. Although he had a full schedule he agreed on short notice to come to our house to euthanize our beloved 20 yr.-old cat between other appointments. He was punctual, compassionate, and always professional, gently stating options as we moved forward. As he performed the procedure, he explained everything he was about to do before he did it, and what to expect. When I seemed worried that the kitty was not fully anesthetized (asleep) before he was about to give her the lethal injection, he offered the option of reversing the anesthetic to bring her back, but I took a deep breath and said to go ahead.Even though he had another appointment coming up soon, he did not rush in any way, offering time and spaciousness for saying goodbye and just being with the kitty's body after she was gone. Dr. Perl was calm and gentle with both the living kitty and afterwards with her body, which was to be cremated. Dr. Perl gave assurance that the cremation facility was reputable and that he used its services for his own pet. He took my cat's body to be cremated and returned the cremains to me at home about a week later, again with respect and compassion. I appreciated not needing to go to the crematorium to pick up the cremains, and that Dr. Perl delivered them to my home. They were in a pretty little wooden box (made in Poland), with small white silk roses attached to the top and a little brass plaque engraved with the cat's name.[Note: the cremation added approximately $200 to the overall cost of these services.]

Overall, my experience is good and I will use them again in the future.

Dr. Perl and his wife are amazing. He was able to help us out when our family dog was dying. He came over asap and was able to help us out. He is thorough, professional and caring. I did not feel at all uncomfortable with him in our home during such a personal and sad experience. I welcome him into my home and will be using him in the future. Thanks Dr. Perl.

Sadly, I didn't hear about Dr. Perl's services until the end of my dog's long struggle with a nasty debilitating disease. He was recommended to me by my regular vet as someone who would come to my home when it was time to euthanize our much loved boxer. He was exceptionally kind and considerate. He ensured my girl's final moments were free of pain and stress while also managing to help me cope with the sadness of the situation. His manner was just the right mix of compassion and business. He explained everything well and provided the additional service of taking the dog to be cremated and returning the ashes to our house. I wish I had started using his services earlier! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Perl. His prices are a bit higher than going into a vets office but not having to make my dog cross a tile floor, lay on a cold metal table and be stressed out was worth every penny.

Excellent experience. This is the second time I've used Dr. Perl who makes house calls as requested. He is very down to earth, direct, and, comparatively speaking, very reasonably priced. Since you are not paying for the overhear to 20 vet techs and a building (his van is his traveling dispensary), he is able to provide quality, economical veterinary care.
