Beware! Eddie Boyko and ABC have a problem with ethics. We contracted for a major renovation that was contracted for 12 months. After 21 months, there was literally not one habitable space in the house. Nothing was complete and a list of 300 defective or unfinished items was ignored. Worse, he demanded a FINAL payment before he would complete the job, even though the contract was clear he needed a final inspection from the county. He abandoned the project at that point and six weeks later a pipe he had installed in uninsulated attic space broke and flooded the house - destroyed much of the renovation (both good and bad). We hired another contractor to fix the mess, while Boyko refused to be responsible for the mess he created or the water damage. He also shafted his subcontractors, who then sued us. The disaster was even the subject of a Washington Post article about contractors gone bad (although we did not name him in that article). Two years of legal battles later, he filed for bankruptcy. He is now back in business because we agreed to let him come out of bankruptcy in exchange for a settlement of 10 cents on the dollar, which at least served as an acknowledgement of his negligence (this also released us from any responsibility to his subcontractors that he had not paid). Know exactly what you are getting into with this guy and whatever you do, do NOT pay him more than the work he has completed.
