Mountain Counties Construction, Inc., a Maryland Corporation (MHIC #27826); 951 Foster Road, Oakland, Maryland. 21550 We selected Mountain Counties Construction (MCC), Inc to perform two projects: 1) Basement Remodeling and 2) Build a detached Garage. After reviewing a total of three proposals from local building contractors including MCC, we chose to go with MCC due to the non responsiveness of the other two contractors regarding questions we had to all the proposals. MCC responded within two days to our questions. Upon signing the contract April 26, 2011 with MCC, we gave the go ahead to get started with indication from MCC they could start within 2-3 weeks and that the ?approximate completion times for the projects would be three (3) weeks for basement and six (6) weeks for garage.? They completed the entire project December 2011.
Items requiring remediation: Light switches were arbitrarily installed in the middle of the walls; Overall poor drywall finishing ? some walls were finished twice and still not acceptable quality; Construct Customized Built In Shelving Unit with heater underneath (totally unacceptable workmanship with poor and rough finish, not properly aligned and did not follow specs). We had a separate contractor to pull it out because MCC refused to. MCC did provide half credit. Staining of concrete floor (MCC was not able to meet requirements so we had to find someone else to finish floor even though they said they could.
Overall, the quality of work was poor and required much remediation, primarily with the basement project. Both projects were not finished until mid December 2011, 6 months beyond the six weeks expected in the contract. If issues came up with project, MCC would arbitrarily make decisions without informing us until after the fact. MCC should not be used if you need quality finishing, especially in a timely fashion, unless you are willing to listen multiple excuses.
