"Thanks for your feedback! I love A reports! I'm very blessed to have Alen on our team! I'm looking forward to working with you again. Matthew Willis"
"Thanks for your feedback, I honestly didn't expect an F from this client. I originally visited and this young man explained his parents are in conflict so he is trying to help out finding a contractor to get the home ready to sell. I love these types of jobs! I could tell he was very anxious to get this done for his parents and help them get their home ready to sell. He showed me about 17 projects that he wanted to get a proposal for. I created the estimate with line items for each item . I discounted each item due to the quantity of the work. I sent it to the client and about 2 months later he responded asking me to remove over half of the items and I still kept the same pricing on the items left. I received another communication about 1.5 months later asking me to remove everything other then 2 items . Sanding the kitchen floor and changing a down draft stove top. At this point the project was no longer feasible with these discounted items so I simply chose not to do this project. I have a right to deny jobs just like the client has the right to choose a contractor. I spent hours changing and making the estimate and the job turned out to be simply not worth it. The client acts like he is entitled to have me to do the work. I was never rude or never said anything to provoke this response. I polity declined the project due to a few factors. I do not like turning down jobs , it's not easy. I don't recall telling a client in 20 years about how much money I made on a job. I may have shared that I had gotten a very nice job but I'd never talk about money specifics. I agree that would be completely unprofessional for anyone to talk about . Every once in a while I'll get someone who has a grudge for turning down there job. It has happened before so I do my best to be polite about it."
"Thank you so much for your amazing review! We where blessed to work with you and I'm most grateful! I really like how you speak of Aloisio . He receives this feedback on many of his projects. He always shows how much he cares about the clients satisfaction and detail in his work. I'm very blessed to have such a wonderful man on our team. In my 15 years and over 3500 jobs, I have learned that it's the men who make the project. I am a bit over cautious in who allow to represent Willis Builders Inc. I figure if we have 10 jobs going at one time I could get 10 calls in the morning concerned where the workers are. But they are all highly trained to avoid in causing problems. This makes my life a lot easier ! Yes the plumber I had come to the house was with us about a year and towards the end he was having problems. I was sad to let him go but it had to be done. He was very talented with 30 years of experience but he had a tendency to rub people the wrong way. We greatly appreciate our clients and they deserve nothing but respect and understanding. I look forward to our next project! Blessings!"
"Ahh one of my all time favorite clients. It's so nice to see your review. You where so gracious to work with for both of our projects . I love Willian too! He's on the ball and super responsible. He always shows how much he cares about his projects and clients. That permit was very tricky but since we [Member Information Removed] been there 100 times they know us well. The permitting people [Member Information Removed] become our Freinds over the years so we jumped through the hoops and got the permit. I agree with you that it takes the time it takes to do it right. This is more important then blazing speed. Virtually all additions require modification to the design in one way or the other. This could cause delays of it isn't handle correctly. You where most available to help with the modifications . Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to live up. Blessings!"
"Thank you for your report and gratitude and constructive feedback. I knew from the beginning your expectations for quality where your motivating factor to hire us. On many occasions you emailed me regarding concerns with quality before the project started or completed in some cases. I know at the end of the project the quality in all areas was to your satisfaction. I remember our rough framing was a concern with you. The county inspector was happy with our work because it was just basic rough framing. It's one reason you lost confidence with our cabinet installation . Rough framing is rough and nothing like cabinet installation finish. Montgomery county required a new modified set of drawings to be drawn due to a change on the applicable roof Framing . We had to wait for the drawing and the county to accept. This was a hidden challenge that we never had before , but we overcame it like all the rest. We had many hold ups due to changes and it had us working the days we could. If it appeared as if we where running over to have you see us working I assure you we would never do that when we could simply communicate we where not able to be present that day. It's not efficient to be productive to run over to a job for an hour or so. It appeared nothing was done but if they are there on the job things always get done regardless of what is seen or interpreted. I'm sorry you felt like we where trying to trick you. Mistrust leads to seeing what one believes then trying to find evidence that it's the truth. If an appliance company installed the appliances they should have tested them. We also had to repair for free the mistakes they made on the cabinetry that we didn't install. But I have learned to be of service regardless of who's responsible . The cabinet people and appliance people are hard workers just like our guys . I was happy to help keep things moving forward regardless if we had done any work on either contractors work. Then we still get blamed for their work. Under stress it is easy to lash out and accuse us of something we should have done like check the appliances. Another challenge we overcame beyond our responsibility. Every job has challenges and I find if the client is ready and know they occur the stress level is much better for everyone. I see a job that has 10 challenges and from experience know this is shockingly low but a homeowner didn't expect a few of these from happening tends to become very stressed. This particular job did in fact have more challenges and one factor is the perspective of the client to question and be concerned over things that are very basic or normal. One many occasions we received communications of great concern later to be explained and understood not to be of any concern. We do have some clients who feel they need to inspect everything and become concerned before we finish or have time to correct the item. This isn't that uncommon and I expect it to happen. I don't mind this because it's just what some people tend to do. If something isn't done right we always fix it. If one thing is left incorrect it affects other items down the road. Leo has been with me 15 years and knows everything about quality and how to do things correct. He did his best and the job turned out amazing . It was a challenge to get there but we always do. Again I love your feedback so we can always increase our level of service."
"We estimated a time to have her estimate to her at the meeting. When she became aggressive seeking her estimate it confirmed our suspicions. During the original meeting many red flags had gone off. Now with an "F" report for not getting an estimate done absolutely verifies our concerns working with this client. I am very satisfied we did not end up working for this client. My associate Steven brought the potential for a difficult client to my attention and I agree with his judgment."
"Thank you very much for your kind response and gratitude for our service. It was a pleasure working with you on our second job. This job was much larger then the first including a full kitchen remodel and floors and trim throughout the entire home. Not to mention both bathrooms upstairs. On a project this size we always have challenges that we have to overcome and glad we where effective in all our solutions. I really love the fact that you got 20 k in cabinets for only 6k from one of our recommended suppliers. The flooring you purchased was under $4 per sft and when we needed more everyone was asking $11 per sft. Look forward to our next project even though I think your home may be fully renovated now!"
I contacted Willis Builders because of the strong reviews on Angie?s List and was not disappointed. The fact that they had a broad range of skills was important to me, since I have other projects that will require different skills.  While there was some delay in responding to my email description of the project, I was not disappointed after that.Â
The bidding process with Steve was interactive and smooth. The crew chief, Tom Roberts, is excellent. He has strong analytic skills and technical skills.  He independently searched for problems that might be under the surface because of the rotting and came up with solutions that would prevent future moisture problems.  There was a potential issue in dealing with the electrical connections for a pool and fish pond that are mounted on one side of the garage.  Rather than removing them as some contracts had bid, at high expense, he decided to build a frame around them and leave the old siding as it would not be subject to moisture.  That worked very well.  He and the crew members had the right skills and applied them very well.Â
They were easy to work with and Tom?s good nature made it a pleasure to work with him. Â
The contract was for labor with materials costs outside the bid price. Â There was an estimate of potential materials costs but the actual costs were higher because of the need to protect against future moisture all around the base of the garage. Â That should have been anticipated. Â
"I love your review, it really details the attributes of our team. Analyzing every project from the start to finish makes the project the best it can be. I appreciate how you mention the good nature of Tom and Steven. Often we get into a project and we are surprised or meet with challenges that we get to overcome. As a child my favorite games and activities involved problem solving so I believe I was designed to be in this field. Construction is mathematics geometry and problem solving. I'm very blessed to have teams with these attributes. I also like how you looked for a contractor who is broad in skill sets and applications . All our project managers are promoted and trained to learn all facets of construction. We are that rare contractor who gives the client the option to pay the same price we pay for all materials on a project. Again thank you for your great feedback!"
The project started on time and progressed pretty rapidly. It still took 2 weeks longer than anticipated but the delays were really not in their control. One week was lost to the blizzard. The next week was delayed due to inspection delays. We also had a concern about the electrical work but emailed the owner and he was immediately responsive and we came to a mutually agreeable solution within a matter of hours.
All in all it was a good experience and we are thrilled with our bathroom. We will get bids from them on our future work too.
"Thank you so much to take your time to share your experience with us. It was a pleasure to work with you both. Thanks for mentioning our quick response and success in overcoming all challenges we faced. Also thanks for appreciating the management considering we have spent many years refining our systems to create our most effective system. I have learned that a hurdle isn't a problem when we respond quickly and effectively . Issues become pleasurable instead of festering. Our pricing will never be as low as some guys out here because our guys are the best. Having the best guys does cost a bit more but I know we give the best value. Less stress, quality people, full insurance, owner availability, quality of finished work and many more. I'm happy that you chose and believed in us and we came through for you. We look forward to a long relationship working with you!"
"Thanks for the great review! We enjoyed working with you! Workmanship is very important with bathrooms because there are sooo many details involved. I'm glad you like my line item with pricing detailed estimate. It takes a bit more time to create but it serves the clients and job best. Like item pricing is great when the scope of work changes. Also I like to ready the detail to help the client to really visualize the work to be done. Also I shows complete transparency and I believe that's important. Being knowledgable about all facets of the project would be because all our project managers need to be able to have expertise in all areas of remodeling. Due to my 25 years working in construction from a laborer to carpenter to being able to do anything in a home I have the full understanding of how to do everything in or on a home. Again thanks so much for your sharing your experience with us."
"Thank you for letting us do your amazing bathroom! You guys did an expert job choosing all your finishes and I love looking the pictures I have. It's my style bathroom for sure! Leo has been with me 15 years now and he is very detailed on his finishes. Since we have done 350 + bathrooms now we have those systems in place to assist you with choosing and locating the best stuff for the best price. I like to give the freedom of the client to choose what they love not what's in a budget. Leo listened and assisted with your choosing your finishes but I have to say , you did an amazing job. We always go for the most effective and efficient way for our projects. I look forward to work with you again on your floor project after your peak season! Blessings."
"Thanks so much for giving your time to reflect your experience with us. I'm grateful for all large and small projects we are blessed with. I always feel happy from A reviews! Never gets old. It's more valuable to us then I would be able to explain. We look forward to our next opportunity to serve your needs!"
"Sounds like an A review but I'm always thankful for a B too. This project was a coupon that we did many years ago. Thanks for taking the time to write the review."
"Yes! I enjoyed working with you for sure. I was there and we where racking our brains on how to get the standard sized door and sidelight to fit your unique sized door and sidelight opening size. You really wanted that door ! I couldn't bring myself to say that it wasn't going to happen. Then it hit me . Marcelo my Carpentor is amazing and I knew " where there is a Willis there's a way". I grew up making custom doors for the Egyptian embassy home. I had to make 105 door frames custom to each opening so I figured lets just make it. Marcelo looked confident at me and said "sure I can do it " I've looked at over 3000 jobs in my time and I'm very blessed to have been raised in my dad and fathers construction companies. I find it valuable to be able to foresee the challenges and explain in detail how it has to be done. I really felt good being able to make the door work for you and Making the sidelights custom. Also I love it when people say we communicated every step of the way . Company policy is one email from managers per day per client to inform them on all updates. The team leaders have been very good at adapting to this great system of service. I also look forward to our next project together!"
The project manager assigned to our job, Aloisio, was also wonderful. He worked as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. He gave us his professional opinion on things, and was very respectful of our house. He did a fantastic job putting things back together for us. The bathroom couldn't have turned out better... unless he would have surprised us with a free whirlpool tub! :)
"What?? Aloisio forgot to put in your free whirlpool tub!!! That was suppose to have been done! Well sorry, guess it's too late now... Funny when I met you guys I felt the same thing warmness and kindness. I have always found it rewarding to serve those who's job is to serve the public so It was an honer helping you out . Aloisio is what I call customer service wizard. I've never had one single client dislike Aloisio. He has a unique habit of installing something like tile then upon the clients return to home , calling them to show off what he has done. I've had tens of client report this behavior to me. I'm very happy you where able to upgrade the bathroom a bit after having a water leak and having to deal with the clean up contractor. I still laugh when I remember the story you shared about them refusing to clean up the trash tossed out their vehicle in front of your home. Once they realized who was telling them to clean it up they humbly straitened up! Too funny .. Anytime you need anything all we are here! Sorry bout the free jacuzzi!"
I confirmed with the contractor twice about the starting time of the project (they suggested 7:30am but I told them I would not be home until 8:30am). Regardless, they showed up at 7:30am and had to wait at the doorstep 1 hour to let me in. The contractor had to cut a lot of tile which was done on my patio - it was poorly cleaned up and and now I have large gray patches on my patio that I have tried scrubbing off but hasn't totally removed the stain. They also mixed grout in an adjacent room to the bathroom (I did not know about this) but found out after they left because the entire room now has a thick layer of dust. Cleaning up clothes, bookshelves, desks, etc. to remove all this dust took a few hours.
The finished product looks ok. When they were 'finished' I took a careful inspection and noticed they missed grouting in certain areas. They filled it in - but there seemed to be an overall lack of attention to detail. The project lasted 2 days - they asked me to get supplies at home depot in between the days, which I did, but they never ended up using one of the supplies.
Also, when all was finished, they gave me receipts from home depot of consisting of materials I needed to pay for. It only added up to about $50, but it would have been nice to know beforehand about this. Overall, the finished work looks ok, but the lack of cleanup, mediocre attention to detail, and poor communication would not have me recommend or rehire this contractor.
"Thank you kindly for your feedback , I'll be sure to see where I can apply it to make our company better. Regarding taking 3-4 days to respond to emails is the first report I have ever gotten . We both do over 100 emails a day. I don't think I have ever misplaced an email because it would have to be in the trash to misplace it. The entire project took 2 days so I'm confused how an email would take 4 days to respond. I've asked Steven why this happened and he simply explained he didn't get that email. I guess the email monster strikes again! I don't go to bed untill all my emails are done but that's just my Ritual. We where the lowest price! That's great ! I've never received a complaint for being early before. I am early over an half an hour at least 3 times a week. Often an hour early or more. I just sit in my mobile office (truck) and work through my emails , invoicing, estimates and an unlimited amount of things. I can't picture my guys sitting on your doorstep . I'm betting they where in their nice comfortable vehicle. It would be scary strange hanging out on someone's doorstep. I enjoy my time of production in my truck before meetings. I've mixed grout many times in a bathroom and never had dust in the bedroom from it . If this was the case we would be more then happy to clean the patio with the correct cleaner and the dust we created. I'm sorry there was so much residue from the 2 day job we did. I never received an email to come clean or I would have done so immediately. Matter of fact if you still have grey spots from the marble dust we would send a cleaner even today. Everything looks ok but we had to fill in some grout spots that shrank or we missed. When cleaning the grout we often find bubbles or spots that need attention. If we miss them it's rare but it does happen after the grout drys. Your contract was labor only as stated 3 times. It appears you missed this detail when you where surprised to see a materials bill for $50. I'm not sure why you where surprised, did you expect $25. Looks like they sent you to Home Depot while they where working. They must have thought they needed those supplies. Now that I think about maybe they wanted you to go to Home Depot. For materials... I really enjoyed your feedback. I appreciate it ."
"You have blessed us many times and I love working for you! You always have an amazing attitude of gratitude! I always feel joy working with you. Leo has been with me 15 years and has indeed learned to be thorough and detail oriented. I'm always impressed by his ability to do anything on a home. His versatility ranges from kitchens , additions to exterior applications . I appreciate your A report! You know anytime you need anything we are here for you. Wish I had 500 clients just like you!r"
"Yes! We worked very hard and am always evolving to provide better service and this shows the fruit. It's very inspiring to the team and myself to get such a perfect report! Thanks very much!"
"It's a pleasure working with . Thank you for such a glowing report! Our team takes pride in being fast and flawless in their work! It is always a bonus to work for such a kind and generous client."
sorts of information (via gmail, for some reason), which I set. Then
heard no response for a good week. I reached out again and got a shrug,
followed by a sarcastic response. Avoid.
***UPDATE: received a follow up from the company apologizing for their conduct prompting change in evaluation score from D to B, with the "B" driven by their poor communication. That's about all I can ask for in response to the review. That said, they need to work on their responsiveness.
"We have new reminder system that doesn't allow us to miss communications from potential clients . In the past a client would send a message like. I need a contractor to install my light. Now we respond regardless."
"We really enjoyed working with you! Aloisio spoke very highly of your interactions . I have to admit you have great taste . That bathroom is looking great! I've never received a bad report from Aloisio so I can say without exaggeration that everyone loves Aloisio. He's the guy who will rip off tile that isn't to his high standard and redo them . I have a system to check all the work we do but I make an acceptation for Aloisio's projects. He has a kindness that everyone appreciates . He is so focused on doing his best and it reflects . I've been truly blessed to have him on our team! Thanks so much for your amazing report, with PHOTOS!"
