We had used Arbortecture two or three years before to remove mulberry and locust trees and to trim a bradford pear, so we were interested in having them take down the problematic poplars this year . Although Arbortecture are sometimes not the cheapest bid you might get, they appear to be the most professional -- and in our opinion worth it. This year we had three very large poplar trees (one with multiple trunks) which had been dropping limbs, and one dropped its top-30-feet on a neighbor's fence, so they needed to go. I wouldn't trust my own skills to keep these off the nearby buildings and fences if I cut them, even though the neighbors volunteered to help, and I wouldn't call the local guy with the truck and chainsaw and ladder. So that's why we called Arbortecture who have the skills and the equipment to drop the tree where you need it. Scheduling the estimates and work for precise days is the only real downside, but Bill Brittain (did I spell that right?) is a busy guy, so don't expect same day service because a lot of other people want to use him. And in any case, they have to work around the weather to get through their customer list. For us, it was maybe a week to get the "look see", a couple days for the paper quote, and then about two or three weeks waiting to get the work done. That wait time is a little annoying, but then again, I bet the sloppy tree guys are ready to work next day! No thanks. I'll take these guys. Bill did a good job before, so I don't mind waiting. He came over for a look during Easter week to see if the ground was dry enough to work, and then he said they could do the job the following day, and so they did, bright and early! 7:30 AM maybe? It was a full day's work for a team of four with chainsaws, chipper, stump grinder, bulldozer-like log hauler, and cherry picker. They don't skimp on equipment. I was very happy with the way they took care of the lawn. You can't avoid damage when you have so many tons of tree to deal with on your grass, but they did a surprisingly good job of not tearing it up more than needed; some other contractors are a bit careless in that regard. These guys even put plywood out on the grass in a couple of spots where they knew they would be tracking a lot! That was a NICE touch! They dropped those trees all within a few degrees of where they needed to, and (as part of the quote) cut the big logs into 18" long pieces for me to use as firewood next winter, and they took the smaller bits to the grinder. Cleanup was EXCELLENT! There was hardly a stray stick left in that yard when they were done! The 18" pieces were all piled in one stack for my later weekend log-splitting pleasure. They also ground the stumps down, both for the poplars and for four smaller trees we had cut earlier. We opted for a fairly basic grind-down instead of complete removal, since it costs less, and these stumps are not in the middle of the yard; the biggest stumps will be in a mulched bed, so we wont even see them. Best of all: These guys worked all of their equipment around the pre-existing smaller replacement trees which were already in place to the side of the poplars but just a few feet away. As before, I was impressed with their carefulness. We will VERY much use Arbotecture again when we need large scale tree work done, and as I mentioned before, any downside like waiting for the work to be scheduled isn't due to any problem on their part but is instead due to what I think is just their popularity. I would definitely recommended them to friends (and have done so) - just call early to get on the work list.
