UNITED PROPANE INC

Moved into a new house that had automatic service for refill.  This was not cancelled by the home owner.  They left a bill for $4.29/gallon.  It is a 1000 gall tank, so it took several hundred gallons.  I immediately called my old provider Annapolis Propane and the told me that their rate was $2.89/Gallon. I contacted the previous owner of the house and he said he had had to call them every time and demand they charge market rates. I called United and they immediately dropped it $1.00/Gallon and I tried to pay them.  They would not take my payment over the phone, but insisted that I fill out a credit app and sign up for their automatic service.  I found out they owned the tank, so I offered to buy the tank form them and was given the full retail price for a seven yr old tank as when it was brand new.  I offered them a fair price considering it's age and the cost they would endure coming to dig it up.  They again refused.  In the meantime now a full 2 weeks has gone by and they sent someone by who snuck up to door and put a notice on the door,(I was watching him to see what he was gonna do).  No knock or doorbell, just a lockout notice that the propane was disconnected.  I got my old company to reconnect and I paid United in full in person at their office.  They could not even find the account.  Still 2 weeks later they were sending nasty grams saying it was unpaid.  I had to show them the CANCELLED CHECK for them to believe me?  I thought I was done with them, now 17 months later I received a had written envelope with no return address.  It was addressed "To whom it may concern".  Inside was a letter saying that they needed to hear from me or propane would be shut off in 7 days.  Really,  TWIMC?  They have my name and email, or I guess have lost it.  I will wait to see how the next round plays out.  
Do not EVER use this scam of a company.  I have since talked to many people with the same kinda stories.

Starting up service was easy and quick

They refilled the tank fine but they were way over-priced. They priced their propane at three times the national average.  I didn’t even want to deal with them.  When I called and told them it was too high, they lowered it $100.  When I called again to say it was still too high, they’d lower it another $100. You just don’t want to deal with people like that.  If anyone asked me, I’d tell them to never use them. I switched to another service. 

Their prices were much higher than other companies' in the area that I concluded that they were not dealing with us fairly. For example, we were paying around $3.20 per gallong when other companies were charging a bit over $2.00 for the very same service. (We owned the tank and wanted automated delivery.) Their accounting department was also disorganzied and lost my credit card number after it changed. I ended up getting a nasty letter about late payments. It also required about 10 calls to get service started. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
