I hired Josh for several issues in my house and in my rental property, and I must say he always did a wonderful, professional and efficient job. I would recommend him always, and I am sure that I will never look to find another electrician, as he is just the best!

Josh seemed very professional, down to earth, and all around generally nice guy. Everything works and he explained what he was doing all the way - which was much appreciated.

We were very pleased with the work Josh has done at our home. This was the third time we hired Josh and we are very happy with the workmanship. We had a long list of items to be done and Josh finished everything in one day, working until almost 9pm. He even fixed problems he found along the way without charging us. He vacuums up after he finishes so he leaves the area clean.

This was my first experience with Potomac Electrical Technicians.  Owner, Josh, was easy to reach and arrived as promised.  Chandelier was removed and replaced quickly.  New chandelier is positioned just right and looks great.  I was so pleased with Josh's work that I've hired him to upgrade my home's smoke and carbon monoxide detection system.

Before contacting Josh I had several ideas about what I want in the living room , but was not sure if  going with track or recessed was the best way forward. Josh helped me calculate the number of lights for the living room and what kind to get. The installation took about 1 day and everything was completed neatly and professionally. We're 100% satisfied and will call Josh again for any future electrical work.

Joshua Becker responded promptly to my request for an estimate, came a few days later to do the work, showed up on time and performed the work in a professional manner for less than the agreed price. Who could ask for more? We will definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

Job pretty much went fine. Very quick service. There was one issue with a Cat5 cable plug, but they came back and fixed it.

Just moved in to my new house and had a few minor electrical issues that were piling up, so my friend recommended Josh at Patriot Electricians. I called him, described my issues, and he gave me an estimate, then we set up an appointment.
He and his assistant showed up on time and took care of all of my issues in less than the time estimated. They re-wired the wall switches to the ceiling fans, installed a new ceiling fan mount, figured out that the hallway and stairwell lights were not working because they were down the line from a GFCI outlet I'd installed incorrectly, fixed that, and installed another GFCI. After completing all of that, and being that they were ahead of schedule, they installed a cable & ethernet jack in my living room and replaced two more overhead lights in the downstairs hallway.
Once they were finished, they did an excellent job cleaning up after all of the work that was done. They did a great job covering all of the furniture where they were cutting through the ceiling and into walls. I was so impressed that I actually went looking for any evidence of where they were working and couldn't find any!
I was very satisfied with the service, plus Josh and his assistant (sorry I forgot his name) are fellow veterans, and they give a 10% veteran's discount, so I am happy to support them.

This is our fourth engagement with Josh (and my second review for him here).   He's our go-to person for difficult electrical work.   He's not your usual electric contractor- he is precise, by-the-book and does things right the first time... and last but surely not least, he's reasonable.
Most electricians may be able to terminate a 15amp circuit ok, but so far, Josh is the only one I've found who I can trust to do CAT6 throughout our house and never need to double check/fix his work.
On the close of this 4th engagement with him, if you count the individual cables from the structured wiring, Josh has ran what I would estimate to be over 2800 feet of new cabling in our older home (or about ~140lbs of copper!).   We brought him in initially to repair the damage  another contractor did to the wiring of the house, and with his help, we've modernized most of the electrical and communication infrastructure of our older home.
To give you a mental image of what Josh stepped into:  Our home was constructed in 1965, with most of the original wiring failing a 12amp load.
Since then he's replaced every receptacle, done the kitchen wiring from the ground up (down to the letter of Montgomery county code), added 12 modern structured drops (including high speed Ethernet and Coax), and several 20amp circuits.   Thanks to him,  our basement now houses multiple computer servers (with dedicated 20 amp circuits), media centers, and hard wired CAT6E gigabit ethernet connections to every room of the house plus the surveillance drops.  A++

The electricians came in and attached the meter box to the house. They took extra care to make sure all holes are properly calked, and all loose cabling is securely attached . They also wrapped some suspicious parts with tape to prevent accidental damage.

They installed seven lights in the house. They were fast, friendly, and neat, and  the prices were reasonable. I've had no problems since then and plan to use their services again.

This review is actually for 3 separate engagements we had with Josh.  #1: Kitchen, bedroom wiring repair, outside line fix, replacement of most outlets in the house, split combo light+fan circuit, relocate several light switches, install circuits and drops for under+over cabinet lighting, install circuit drop for toe-kick lighting  ($3000), installation of 5 mass junctions for LAN & coax (2x CAT5E LAN + 2x RG6 each, $1200, and installation of 20 amp circuit, replacement of a few other outlets ($450)

The story:
In the middle of our renovations to a 1965 home, once the sheetrock came off I realized the wiring is in dire need of help.  Everything was in bad shape, poorly routed, and after moving some walls around a few of the important circuits were severed and or damaged.

I pulled together a list of a few candidate electricians on Angies list plus a few of my own.   I managed to get Josh on the phone on the first try and he was quickest to respond and to the house.   Of the rest of the pool, I got one other bid which was a slight bit lower than Josh, but we went with Josh because of his faster response (since we were in the middle of renovations I couldn't afford to have the electrician not line up with the rest of the activities)

On the day of the estimate I met up with Josh.  At first contact, Josh seems like a no-nonsense guy and mission focused.  He provided a bid, I let him know of the alternate bid we received.   We negotiated a bit on the price and agreed on a bit of scope expansion at his bid price which I felt then made his bid competitive with the lower bid.

In retrospect, I'm glad I went with Josh.  While the work on most of the house was smooth sailing, Josh did hit several major stumbling blocks and a few more surprises including a very elusive break in the master bedroom circuit which at the end he ended up replacing the wire feeding that room all together.   He worked this problem diligently into the night under the agreed upon price which was very much appreciated, especially given our budget constraints.

All in all, he was over on 3 separate days on the various phases of the main electrical work and got things done nicely.   The highpoint of this engagement was the disposer.   We had not discussed the disposer install (the kitchen wasn't quite done yet).   I spend about 2 days trying to get the plumber or the appliance company to install the disposer and dishwasher... All they had to do is attach the power pigtail to the two, and they were good to go (Josh had already installed the outlets).   On the third day I got a surprise from Josh while I'm writing his 3rd payment check that he went ahead and installed the disposer pigtail for me, and installed the pigtail on the dishwasher that was sitting in the middle of the living room awaiting the install.   This was a very pleasant surprise and saved me another hour of trying to get the other guys to do it.  Ohh... and he also installed the electric wall oven too! Almost forgot about that.

Now... roll the clock forward another month or so... Our old house needs network, cable and phone jacks.  We negotiated a price of about $300 per drop with my supplying the jacks and structured cabling.  I consider this to be in the price range for this sort of service and we got Josh to come in and tackle this.   Josh took care of the network drops, terminated the CAT5's, brought the wiring exactly to where I had requested, bundled everything nicely and finished everything as expected.

On our most recent engagement with Josh we reached out to him again because our home office had some inadequate 1960's wiring that just couldn't handle a laser printer.   We negotiated a price of $450 for a new 20 amp circuit plus replacement of a few more outlets.  He indicated he would need to be here for about a half day.  He put in his 1/2 day and left before we got home so when I got home I went into the room and it took me about about 5 minutes to figure out which drop was the new 20 amp outlet ... Seriously... there was not a spec of sheetrock dust or any marring on the wall to be seen... the guy worked like a surgeon.

The positives:
-Josh's work seems almost text-book level.  Everything is to code (and he knows the local codes and construction best practices, i.e., see pic 3 where he installed and wired electrical drops at 48 inch increments around the new kitchen).
-His wiring is clean, he uses good quality wiring and sockets.
-He makes liberal use of junction boxes and his wiring connection points are protected and secured to joists.
-He makes liberal use of plastic retention clips and staples (see pic 1).  This keeps the wiring organized and secure.
-He understands network wiring and cable installation.  All CAT5E cables were terminated properly, and I'm not picking up any significant loss on any of the lines.  As a nice touch, he inverts the RG6 connectors alternately so the longer and shorter ends code which line is which for the user.
-He clearly labels his work in the distribution box.  See pic 2.
-He makes liberal use of nylon ties.  Where he runs multiple structured lines, he bundles things together every few feet.
-He understands thermals.  His wiring work for the wall oven reflected this.   Anything near the oven was steel jacketed and high temp tolerance.
-He exhibits the good habit of labeling wires as he's routing them (he writes on the wire jacket with a sharpie).

Other misc. info:
He has someone assist him with his work.  The gentleman assisting him seems equally as capable as Josh and the two working together really make the tricky wiring runs more manageable from a logistical perspective.  A few times when I stopped by in the middle of their work I found James in the basement guiding things down the wall as Josh worked them from the main floor.

What he won't do:
While Josh will cut sheetrock to or minor ground excavation to get to wiring,  he will not patch up the drywall nor re-bury wire.   Plan on a general contractor to wrap this piece of the work up for you.   Most electricians and plumbers work in this fashion so don't be surprised.  He does have recommendations for a contractor that can take care of this last step for you.   We're using our own so I can't comment on his referrals.

The work is almost complete and it has gone swimmingly. Josh has been flexible in his schedule, including a willingness to work Saturdays on occasion to accommodate my needs, since I am doing the design and carpentry. Every aspect of the job has been near perfect, and when changes to the original idea seemed warranted, they were easily taken care of.
