Short's Moving Service

Two man crew had no phone between them, could not do GPS, had to let them follow me to location which was a pain with lights and mergings. They did not have clear instructions from the owner on what was agreed upon between him and me. They were more concerned to not do more that was agreed upon. I had to let them use my phone to call the owner to prove what I told them was correct before they would even begin to do what was needed. Frustrating, unprofessional, and would not recommend if needing an on the ball moving company. Relationship between workers and owner seemed strained. Seemed like they were a couple of his buds who work occasionally for him, not pros at all.

Based on my experience, the crew from Shorts is neither equipped or trained to move larger pieces of furniture like armoires. The other reviews indicate they are fine with moving normal sized pieces of furniture. Here's my experience. I had Short's move two cream-colored armoires and several smaller pieces of furniture from the second story of my Lexington Park house, to my daughter's second floor condo in Leonardtown. These were big pieces of furniture. One six feet tall and the other a bit taller. I had removed all of the drawers from both so as to minimize the weight of each piece. I figured it was going to be difficult to get the heavy armoires down the stairs especially if the weight of the drawers was included. Kelvin and Donald arrived and the first thing Kelvin did was put the drawers back into the armoire. He told me that I was making work for him by removing the drawers. I understood that it might take a few more minutes to carry the drawers down to the truck separately, but to me it was more important to minimize the weight of each piece. I should have insisted but I'm reluctant to tell someone how to do their job and so I let it go. I figured they would use lifting straps to get the armoires down the stairs. This is how the crew who delivered the armoires several years ago had gotten them up the stairs without damaging our wood stiars. But the Short's crew didn't haven't lifting straps or didn't want to use them. They instead attempted to carry the armoires down the stairs. By the time they were done getting both armoires into the truck, the had left 12 dents in our heart pine stairs and 7 cream colored scuffs. When they arrived at my daughter's condo they had to get the armoires up to the second floor via a set of exterior steps. They struggeld because of the weight and size of the pieces. Again, no lifting straps were used. I asked Kelvin, "Are you sure you don't want to remove the drawers?" He didn't. As they were getting the second armoire into the front door, it tilted and one of the drawers slid out on to the ground. The rear of the drawer hit the ground, so the drawer was not marred. But it wouldn't have happened if the drawers had been removed. One other thing. When my wife called to get a quote, she was told it was $120/hour. The job took 1 hour and 40 minutes. It wasn't until it came time to pay that I was told that the minimum charge was 3 hours.
