We purchased our home last year. The previous owner highly reccomended we have a service contract to have the system turned on in the summer and shut down in the fall. We have called twice but the company has not returned our calls to make an appointment. They are the origonal installers of the system in 1999.

I turned on the system in late May, when plants were suffering without irrigation, and the company never called to arrange the startup. When I started it up, there was extensive damage, and I had to battle work to get the owner over to inspect the multiple obviously gushing heads. He marked the heads, and said he was very busy with new installations, but would be back. No response. Ever. And I even had his personal cell phone number, too!
They blew out the system late in the fall of 2012, I believe near Thanksgiving. No inspection of the heads and possible repairs then. I know the damage this spring was MUCH worse than last summer. Suspect this was due to freezing of water leaking back into pipes due to several sprinkler heads sliced off by lawnmower, never fixed last year. Despite phone calls.
I have used them for 20 years, with worsening service for the last 5 or so. I am bailing, and finding a new company with an interest in serving their customers.

Lawn Irrigation
We just bought a new house on July 14th. I immediately noticed there was a stream of water in the back yard going down a hill, and suspected there was a leak in the sprinkler system. The previous owner gave me the number for Maryland Lawn Sprinkler, and told me they had a service contract with them.
I called them around July 18th, left a message explaining the above -- and no one ever called back. I called them again one week later, no answer. I called them again another week later, and left 2 messages with an "answering service". I labeled each one as an "emergency", and the person on the phone each time assured me that I would receive a prompt call back. In total, I called them at least 6-8 times over the course of a 6 week span. Because there was a service contract and I figured they installed & knew the sprinkler system, I kept trying to get a hold of them. Meanwhile, there was a constant puddle in my back yard.
I finally went with a different company who diagnosed and fixed the problem immediately within 2-3 days. Maryland Lawn Sprinkler finally called back (!) -- a full SIX WEEKS after my first call. They told me that they "did not know" I had a contract with them, because I was a new owner. This was despite the fact that every message I left stated I was a new owner, etc. From my perspective - even if they "didn't know I had a contract" - why wouldn't they return 6 emergent phone calls?? After I told them I went with a different company, they actually asked me if I would want to renew the service contract! I asked him if he was serious, and refused.
I would definitely not recommend this company. I do not know if they do good work or not, however the unprofessional manner they handled 6-8 "emergency" calls without responding for 6 weeks -- suggests very poor service.

Initial installation was fine, but the follow-up service was deplorable. They didn't even have the courtesy to return our ten calls, or to inform us that they were too busy to get to us. They use an answering service rather than office staff. We are reporting them to the better business bureau.

They were completely unresponsive to requests for service. It could take months to get someone out to my home. If the job needed was particularly difficult or time consuming, it was postponed indefinitely. This year I called for scheduled service April 1, to beat their usual May rush. Service was scheduled and no one showed up. Calls to reschedule were not answered. They showed up (unscheduled) about June 10. After several years of poor service, I fired them.

THEY ARE RELATIVELY PROMPT IN RETURNING CALLS FOR SERVICE. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO WAIT IN THE SPRING TO HAVE THEM COME OUT AND TURN ON YOUR SYSTEM, SO OFTEN TIMES I DO THAT MYSELF. GETTING IT SHUT-DOWN IN THE WINTER IS IMPORTANT SO THAT YOUR PIPES DON'T FREEZE AND MOST OFTEN THEY SCHEDULE THIS FOR A CONVENIENT TIME TO WINTERIZE YOUR SYSTEM.
