Terrible.  They claimed to be a member of BGE's smart energy savers program allowing us to get $2,000 back after they completed the work.  They were kicked out of the program and it took about 10 months of constant fighting to get our reimbursement.  The work seemed to be fine but their paperwork was terrible.  They're back in the program but I would be very reluctant on using them again.  In the end, I would not recommend.

The post installation blower door test showed worsening in home ir sealing. Unfortunately, Mr. Eisenbrandt failed to fulfill the obligation stated in the contract and meet the minimum standards required by the BGE program.

A formal BGE audit and QC of the work was done and specifically, the following gross deficiencies in the work were identified following completion of the work:

  1. Knee wall not treated as program requires or contract specified

  2. Attic hatches not gasketed

  3. Air sealing does not meet rebate requirements

  4. Bath fan ducting does not meet minimal industry installation standards

  5. Combustion appliance safety does not meet program requirements.

In addition, we learned after the fact that at the time the work was done, Mr. Eisenbrandt was under suspension of participating in the BGE program and following the audit of the work done at our property, he was expelled from the program. To date he has failed to provide any explanation for the shoddy work or refund.

The work performed by Mr Eisenbrandt was unsatisfactory and grossly negligent. Upon an internal post-installation audit by BGE, his work failed every criteria measure of the program, and the company he subcontracted to testout the work actually reported an increase in air leakage of the home. In addition, he failed to perform the work specified in the contract such as installing R19 batting and instead stapled up old, water damaged cardboard that was already in the attic and did not install an air barrier that would be required by the program. The sealing was incomplete, as we have cellulose insulation coming through our closet light fixture. He installed a bath fan that was not BPI compliant and not installed accourding to best practice (not insulated, venting undersized, not hung correctly in the attic etc). In addition, he caused damages to the house including putting white silicone caulking on our hardwood stairs and stain finished shoe mold which is poor practice and unsightly. There was an access hole in the bathroom that was not included in the contract. The plaster work done to seal it is of such poor quality that it already has cracks and bubbles in it. To date he states he stands by his work, but has failed to provide a follow up work order, instead states he is available for the "touch ups". In summary, Mr. Eisenbrandt's work failed to weatherize or improve efficiency in any measurable way, he did not keep to the contract or the intentions of the program for which he was hired to perform, and he caused additional damage to the property. I would strongly recommend that you do not hire Mr. Eisenbrandt!

I would not recommend Smart Homes for any type of gutter work or repair.  I will not hire them to do any type of work for my home.

They did a good job and showed up on time. They left on time and also cleaned up too. They followed the plan exactly to what we needed. The church was pretty happy with the job. They were a little more exspensive than the others, but they seemed to have a little more experience. They said that they had worked with churches before too. It was nice because we did not have some one standing over them at all times watching them. They were also on time.

Overall the experience was very nice and we were very comfortable with having the Smart Home people in our home. They were tuned in to our goals and very responsive to our concerns.

When we bought this house in September 2007, the roof had been replaced by the previous owners earlier the same year. So we were very surprised to see spots begin appearing on our bedroom ceiling after a particularly hard rain in September 2011. With none of our friends able to personally refer a local roofing expert, and no information on whom the previous owners had used, we signed up to Angie's List and did some research; Smart Home Services seemed like a good fit.

With even more rain forecast for the following two days, we were in a huge rush to get some sort of resolution in place ASAP. Smart Home Solutions said they would have a person do a diagnosis and an estimate either that afternoon or the following morning, and two fellows were at the house promptly the next morning. After checking things out, the lead tech declared that the roof was actually extremely well constructed by the previous contractor, and that there were only the roofing equivalent of a few undotted I's and uncrossed T's that left the roof vulnerable to extremely intense downpours like the one we had experienced. Within the hour, he had used his materials to plug and seal small gaps he had found near the joints on both the outside and inside of the roof.

That was about 2 months ago, and though we have had several extremely hard rains since then, there has been no ongoing problems with rain spots on any ceiling surfaces; his fixes appear to have done the trick. Considering that we were spared the expense of either extra roof work or a second estimate (which we would have gotten depending on the amount of the first estimate), the price quoted was both reasonable and a huge relief. The actual invoice ended up being almost twice as high (I think that he forgot to account for his partner's time), but I believe was out of a simple, non-malicious accounting error, and was still within a reasonable range (< $150) even so. I am not looking forward to having any more roof issues, but If I do, I plan to call these guys first.

All are a delight to work with, and I found them quite reliable in following through with the work agreed upon. Their biggest strength is the people who actually do the work. On more than one occasion they have corrected jobs previously done by others, even some with good recommendations from Angie's list. One thing I particularly like is their creative problem-solving ability. I also like that they clean up well as they work. I have always been very pleased with their work, and I believe that I get a fair price. They are the ones ?on-call? if my home needs emergency repairs while I am traveling. The only caveat I have is that it took them a very long time to get the energy audit/repair records to me for income tax purposes. Nevertheless, I did get them in time and they were very thorough. All in all, by far the best I have ever had.

They were awesome and great. They are a new company and they were very busy. He came about three days after I talked to them because they were swamped. He was one of the very few companies that I was able to get into contact with and that was willing to do the work. His price was awesome. They took pictures on the roof to show me what they saw and they advised me on specific matters with the gutters. They were in and out.

The entire job went smoothly from start to finish. Fritz (the owner) was on top of it at all times and moved the jobs along quickly and smoothly. He and the workmen are all highly professional and very personable, a pleasure to have around. They are enthusiastic, upbeat, and eager to give good service. And they deliver. Furthermore, my experience is that Fritz will not encourage one to spend money unnecessarily and he will not condone repairs or workmanship that is shoddy.
