I dropped off the vehicle without a prior appointment. Mechanic called me at home within an hour to tell me what the problem was and to give me the estimated cost. He explained that because of the age of the vehicle, they would have to order the needed parts from New Jersey and so they would not be able to fix it the same day. He said they would fix it the next day. Before noon the next day he called to say the car was ready. The cost was exactly what he had estimated. I have had similar good, friendly service at Danneman's before, and would never hesitate to take my car there.
Note that blue book value on the car is $2200 at best. So I plead with them that I wasn't looking to spend a fortune. Even so, they kept driving up the price. To say the least, this led to some serious heartache in our family about what to do with the car. The heartache was compounded when, after I balked at the ridiculous price they quoted for changing the timing belt (and the water pump, et al) the mechanic turned right around and said, "I'll buy the car from you for $1000." That was a pretty unprofessional move to pull on our cash-strapped family.
I think the owner is honest and wants to run a good business. Unfortunately, I have largely dealt with a pretty callous and thoughtless salesperson/mechanic when I have gone there.
They do good work, from what I can tell. So if you like them as a business and don't mind spending lavishly on your vehicle, then they may be a fit for you. But there are far more reasonable shops around, and I think I got more professional service than at least one Danneman's salesperson was willing to provide. They lost a customer for life.
Btw, they are immediately across from the MARC station, so very convenient for commuters.
