The end result is beautiful. The hardwood refinishing is seamless and there are no marks from the sander or 'noses' from the urethane. The new hardwood and laminate was skillfully installed, everything is straight without any squeaks. The carpets are beautiful. We also had some carpets stretched at our old house and the crew worked quickly delivering a good result.
Robert doesn't pressure customers and I really enjoyed that facet of their business.
Details: We had just purchased a house and all flooring needed to be replaced. We went with Ultimate Flooring because they seemed quite professional and likable. Other flooring companies matched - or even beat by a little - their prices, but we were comfortable with Ultimate Flooring. We picked out a high-end carpet (and high-end padding) for most of the house and and a high-end vinyl flooring for the kitchen and bathrooms. We also wanted the wood flooring refinished in the dining room, entryway, and hallway. We picked out a sample from his wood flooring display and said that was the color we wanted for our wood flooring. The work was performed before my family moved in from another state. They were given a key and they installed everything prior to our arrival.
Carpeting: The carpeting was installed very professionally and we were quite happy with it.
Vinyl Flooring: The vinyl flooring was another matter. We discussed how much was needed to ensure the least number of seams. The owner set it up so there would be a single seam in the kitchen and so we paid for enough material for that to happen. When we inspected the flooring, there was the seam that we expected, but also one at the entryway to the Sun Room and another (we didn't see until much later) in the Sun Room itself. The seam in the kitchen was well hidden (it was cut along the diagonals of the pattern grout line to hide it). But the seam in the doorway was straight across the pattern and was very obvious. The seam in the Sun Room (a few feet from the wall) was also cut across. IO complained about it and he sent the crew back out and I ended up with two seams at the doorway to get the diagonal cuts to better hide the seams - the resolution wasn't optimal - twice as many cuts and some were still visible. I was told by the subcontractor (everything was subcontracted out) that the reason for so many seams was because the owner routinely short-changes the amount of vinyl ordered to cut costs, so they have to patch up pieces to make it work. The subcontractor said this was an ongoing issue with Ultimate Flooring. I had specifically paid for an amount to avoid multiple seams, but the owner, according to the subcontractor, didn't purchase what was needed to do the job the way it was supposed to be done.
Wood Flooring: The wood flooring was another fiasco. We had a relatively light (as opposed to dark, not quantity) wood stain and we wanted a darker stain with a reddish, almost cherry, tint. We were told it would be no problem. When we arrived at the home, the flooring was a much lighter stain than the original - totally opposite of what we wanted. They also had not done the stairs. When that subcontractor came out, he said since we had red oak flooring, there were only two stains we could use - neither was what we wanted. A few weeks later, they came up with a stain that was close to what we wanted - we compromised and they stained it close to, but not quite, what we wanted. The stairs were splotchy (by the way, the carpet had to be ripped up off the stairs so they could re-do the wood and when it was placed back down, it didn't quite fit as well as it did the first time) and stain got onto the baseboards.
Summary: Overall, we were very happy with the carpeting, and very unhappy with the vinyl and wood flooring jobs. The company subcontracted all installation services out - which I have no issue with. What I had issues with was the total lack of supervision of the subcontractors. Ultimate Flooring did not come out once during installation (according to the subcontractors) to see how things went. Even after completion, he did not come out to see the end result of the project until we called with all of the above issues. There was a significant lack of communication between the subcontractors and the company, which was one of the reasons we got the wrong stain color. For a $13,000+ job, I would have thought the company would have been more hands-on to ensure the subcontractors were doing their work properly and according to our wishes. He knew we were not in state and we could not be there during the installation (in fact, he recommended we not be there for it). At the time, he was closing on his own house and that might have distracted him, but it shouldn't have.
