My initial phone call was promptly returned and a time for an estimate scheduled. They arrived on time and were very thorough in describing to me what they would do, how they would do it and why. The original start date was delayed due to all of the rain we've had, but when they came they finished the job in one day. The yard was a little torn up on either side of the walk, and they raked it out, spread some topsoil and grass seed and covered it with straw. All of the debris, including the old stone, was hauled away and everything was neatly cleaned up.
This was a small job (the walkway was 20 feet long by 3 feet wide) and it's hard to find companies that will do something like this. Most of them just tell you it's not worth their time. So I appreciate a company who treats my small job like it's a big job. They were very professional and courteous and they did a great job and I would definitely recommend them.

I asked them to cut my yard every other week. They cut my yard even when it doesn't need to be cut. When I have called them, they were very sarcastic and rude. I asked them to get back to mowing it every other week, because there isn't anything cut when they cut it every week. They told me if I couldn't afford it, that I needed to get someone else to mow my yard or do it myself. I have to pay because of the contract. I've called them to mow my other property and they haven't gotten back to me. They have completely ignored me.

"Member has a lawn mowing contract with our company for mowing the front yard on a weekly basis. She has called up and complainied in a very rude manner to the staff that we should of not cut her property 5 times in one month. The staff has tried to explain in a professional manner to her that if a given month has 5 Fridays in it then that's how she ended up getting the 5 cuts. We have never told her to cut it herself or that she needs to find someone else to mow it ?? We have been providing this same exact service for Member for close to 10 years and never had a problem with the cutting schedule or quality of service ! We had not had a chance with getting back to her on a price on another property to cut since only 2 or 3 days have gone by since she had requested it. Also I really dont understand if the service she was getting was bad than why was she wanting our company to mow her other property??"

We had had many estimates and this company was the best by far to communicate with. Phone calls were promptly returned and the person was knowledgable and easy to communicate with. The gentleman took his time going over things with me and answering my many questions and concerns. He seemed very knowledgeable and experienced and communicated very well- I felt sure they understood what I wanted and needed, something I was not confident of with other companies. The company also worked with me to keep things affordable, I took down some of the trees and brush and did some of the grass reseeding. When weather affected the original start date I received phone calls letting me know and when to expect things may start. Unexpected problems came up as with any home repair and were smoothly addressed and we were kept updated. Especially helpful for me was that at completion they went over with me everything that was done, demonstrated the grade they were able to achieve and the other fixes and were available for questions. When I had concerns about how the grass was regrowing afterwards they were very good at answering questions and giving information on the phone. Our specialist that monitored our basement wall also was able to verify that the grade achieved was significant enough to fix our problem.

Raquel at the main office was very nice and responsive. She set up our lawn service for clean up and scheduled our on going lawn care. Everything has gone as agreed. The team that comes out are very nice and do a great job. They give the best service I have ever received for lawn care and the landscape crew that did the yard clean up were great too. It is nice that I can get Raquel on the phone if I need anything additional.

The ordering was very easy. I assume his wife answers the phone at home. Very pleasant when I ordered and even accomodated me by delivering my wood very quickly. However, I did not receive what I paid for. I originally order a 1/2 chord and then increased it to a chord. What I received was 2/3 chord of wood. It was predominantly mixed hardwood as they stated in their add - a few pieces of pine, but nothing I was overly concerned with. After it was stacked, one pile measured 7.5x3.5x1.5 and the other 8x3x1.5 - not 8x4x4 (a chord). I was even a little weary when I saw the pile as it just didn't seem like a chord. I called Short Cutters back two days later to let them know. The woman immediately got defensive and told me that they measure a chord of wood and it was 10 buckets and that is what I got. She then told me I must not know how to stack wood. I told her that I would be happy to have them come out and measure the stacked wood to show her. I told I had measured it and gave her the dimensions. I did tell her that there were a lot of short fat pieces in the mix. She was clearly unhappy with me and told me she would have the owner call me to discuss it. It has been 4 days and I haven't heard from anyone. I am assuming they have caller ID, because my calls were always immediately answered before and now I just get a machine. I have left 2 more messages and still haven't heard a thing. In conclusion, I would say "short cutters" is an appropriate name for this company. Update: On 12/2/10, representatives from the Maryland Dept. of Weights and Measurements came to my house to follow up on a complaint I filed with them. After measuring the wood I received, they calculated that I only received 48% of a chord - so, not even a 1/2 chord. They are contacting Short Cutters on my behalf for a refund for the 52% of the chord I did not receive.

"In response to the above statement. We have deliveried a cord of firewood out to the above Customer. When our delivery truck arrived to the stated address she was not present for delivery also she had a neighbor down the street wave our truck down to dump half of the firewood off in his driveway. We were unaware that she was not going to be present for delivery nor want to split the pile of wood with a neighbor down the street. My driver being nice had decide to dump it . The neighbor also stated to our driver that the wood was 10 times better than any previous wood he has purchased in his past. The customer above has stated that she has left several messages with us but has not included that it was right befor a Thanksgiving Holiday which our office shuts down for. She had contacted Maryland Dept of weight on Dec 2nd, which on that same day they came out to measure the wood. Maryland Dept of weights let us know that they had measured the pile of wood and that they didnot realize that it was delivered back on Nov 15th. Delivering it almost 3 weeks prior to them measuring can make an inaccurate measurement due to burning etc. To solve any misunderstanding with the above customer our company has decided to give her a credit for the 52% of the firewood she ''says'' she didnot recieve. In the future we will not deliver to anyone that is not going to be home for delivery nor dump half the pile of wood off to a neighbor down the street with out being notified first."

This was a very good company that showed up daily on time. They did a great job for the price. One part of the pad was out of site and they were not equipped to fix it. They kept working and were committed until it was finished. Their quality was good and I was happy with the results. I would use this company again in the future for landscaping purposes.
