We hired David and Matthew?s Dad to install flooring in our attic in August 2015. On August 28, 2015, David Young, Sr. and his son dislodged two pieces of PVC piping from each other in our attic while installing floor boards. The disconnected PVC piping leaked water through the attic floor to the bathroom located on the floor below. When we found the leak the following evening, the ceiling of the bathroom had been completely soaked through, damaging the bathroom?s ceiling and the insulation between the two floors. We had to call a water remediation company and a plumber immediately to remediate the damage. The costs we incurred to reattach the pieces of PVC piping and to remediate the water damage to the attic floor and bathroom ceiling were significant--$1,075 in aggregate deductibles with our home insurance company and home warranty company. Because the Youngs? actions caused significant water damage to our home, and we had already paid them in full for the work they had done in our attic to install flooring, we asked, on multiple occasions, that they or their insurance company reimburse us for these deductibles. They have refused to do so. Consequently, we feel compelled to submit this negative review of their work and to request the assistance of Angie's List in resolving this dispute.
"This issue has been disputed for some time now, in fact it has gone thru the clients homeowners insurance and my liability insurance company and as far as I know they determined that we were not liable for the repairs. Before discussing details I want to make it clear that when we were notified of the leak we offered to come back and evaluate what had happened, they refused our offer and, less than a day after the leak started, called a Mold Remediation Company. Mold remediation companies only have two courses of action. One-do nothing (rare) Two- Rip out everything that saw even a drop of water. Have you ever spilled a glass of water on your carpet, it soaks the carpet, the padding and the subfloor…..Did you rip it all out? No. Now details. their complaint states that we "dislodged" joints in pvc pipe, specifically the condensate drain from the attic air handler. It is impossible to dislodge pvc joints, they are solvent welded together and the pipe will crack and break before the joints come apart no matter how hard you try UNLESS the pipe was never installed properly and the installer failed to ever glue the joints which without doubt is the case here as the client stated that the plumber they hired had to fix 4 or 5 joints. I have consulted professional HVAC companies, there is no circumstance in which pvc drains would be left unglued, further I suggested to he client how to look up the original installer of the unit thru the county permits In summary if I walk up to your house to ring your doorbell and your front porch falls off the house because the installer never secured it to the foundation Please contact the person who installed the porch (or in this case the AC)"
Good.
David does many different jobs and did great work; we are hiring him again! There were many unforseeable bumps along the way but David made sure that all issues that came up were addressed thoroughly to our satisfaction. The projects took longer than anticipated, but he came weekends and in the evenings to finish things and I preferred it to be done correctly than quickly. David is honest. He notified me about a chip in the tub that he figured must have happened during his work and said he would repair it; I then happily told him the chip had been there when we bought the house and that I appreciated his honesty. His bill was true to his estimate, even though he put in many more hours work than he had originally anticipated. He is his own boss and takes pride and ownership of his work. We have recommended him to several friends.
Also tangential: I left a message (May 2013) about a different job -- mounting a large muti-room A/C unit in a window -- and did not get a return call.
later. David and his son arrive within the timeframe expected and I
went off to work to leave them to their job. When I returned home the
work was complete in a professional manner with only some dusting and
light vacuuming left for me to do, about what is expected after having
holes drilled in your walls.
I will definitely hire David again.
