We started in the living room and decided to give this room a personal feel. I have a passion for history, the American Civil War in particular. And I had a few signed and numbered limited edition art prints that were stored away in a closet. Studio Starrs asked to look at the prints, and went through the stack and selected several prints that would form the focal point of the room. They worked with me to select the frames and matting.... providing me with discount coupons that eased the price of the framing. We also selected a reasonably priced rug to cover the hardwood floors, and from that we picked out a color palette for the walls that would pull out colors of the rug. Studio Starrs then provided renderings of the rooms showing color and furniture options. This really helped me visualize what the rooms would look like when we were done. Studio Starrs then worked with me to find a reasonably priced and good quality painting contractor to paint tall three rooms and both stairwells. We decided to make the living room more of a formal room. With four fabric covered arm chairs surrounding a leather ottoman in the middle. Designed for conversation and entertaining. We added a cabinet against the wall that sits under the art prints. The prints were mounted in a symmetrical manner with really looks great. But what I really like about the way that Studio Starrs is the additional details that I would never think to add to the room. Combination of vases, dried flowers, etc. that really make the room pop. Wonderful. The other major effort was the sunroom, on the other side of the kitchen from the living room. Studio Starrs made this an informal room, using existing an existing rug to pull out colors for the drapes and furniture. We selected a sectional at the local Bassett furniture store. Studio Starrs worked with me to select quality furniture while not breaking the bank along the way. We added a three piece bookshelf on one wall. Again, it is in the details where Studio Starrs really shines. The final touch was a really interesting design element, we hung an old stained glass window in an opening between the sunroom and kitchen. It really pulls everything together. And I cannot tell you how many compliments I receive from people who visit my home after the transformation. It was a lot of work and decisions but it was fun too. And I hope I didn't reveal too many secrets here. But suffice to say I enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Studio Starrs for your interior decorating needs.

In June 2013 we bought our home and like most homeowners, we wanted to personalize it. As my husband has been an Active Duty Soldier, we’ve always either lived on a military installation or rented; until now. Within a few months of moving here, we decided it was time to begin our updating; however, realizing that my taste and my husband’s taste varied, we agreed to try using an interior designer in order to compromise our tastes and blend the furniture we had. I began my research and found that it was almost overwhelming; so many to choose from only made the process harder. After speaking to several designers, I contacted Beth who responded within 24 hours and scheduled our initial consultation within a week. From the very beginning she was punctual, honest, friendly, and extremely skilled.
As part of the first consult and after listening intently, she provided solid recommendations that were exactly what we needed to hear. The first priority above all others was to replace our foyer’s outdated tiled floor for solid hardwood floor. From this we could then move to wall colors, light fixtures, etc. Once my husband and I agreed to use her services, she immediately began sending me links to websites for light fixtures and entry console tables. She also returned within a week with wall color pallets for us to hold on to and discuss. Within a reasonable time she returned with area rug swatches for us to match to the wall color pallets, as well as prints for our walls that she found throughout the local shops. One great example of the kind of eye Beth has was to recommend that we paint our typical oak stair railing to a glossy black color with the pickets white. Once the floor and walls were done, this added such a finishing touch that it converted our entrance into exactly what we wanted. She has a very good eye for the smallest details that help complete the look we want. Never has she imposed her personal style upon us; however, she always has provided a professional opinion.
Now it’s been almost a year since the first time she entered our home and she continues to impress us with her ability to find the nicest things for our home while staying within our budget. Her experience is endless. Beth can find something at the low end or the high end of a price range; it all depends what you want and how much you’re willing to spend. We are extremely happy we decided to use her and will continue using her to until we’re done.
During the second meeting with Beth to decide on types of curtains etc. I asked about redoing the wall paper in the kitchen and powder room. No problem. Again within two meetings she found papers that I just love and suggested several choices for new fixtures for the powder room. Again to save my money she suggested I buy what I liked on the internet. I had a ceiling border in the old kitchen and wanted to do it again. She suggested to skip the border and instead do crown molding. Fantastic idea because now the entire first floor has crown molding. Both rooms are currently in the re-do stage with my contractor. I can't wait to see the results because I know I will love them as much as I do the bedroom!
My experience with Affordable Interiors was perfect from start to finish and Beth is a delight to work with. I highly recommend and so do my friends who love everything I did and I am doing.
