A repairman came out the day we called, showed up promptly and repaired the damaged wiring. A few days later we noticed another problem that we thought was related. Again, they sent the same repair guy out the same day that we called, and even though he didn't arrive until late in the day, he stayed to work until nearly 9 pm to fix the problem (which was related but not the same issue as before). He was very up front and worked to find the solution that was the most direct and cost-effective for us.

Electrician (Ray, I think) arrived promptly and fixed a malfunctioning wall switch and replaced a motion sensor security light . He also gave me a rough estimate for adding some lighting in our kitchen. Very professional, friendly, and worked quickly. I plan to use this company again very soon.

Stephen Wilcox called to confirm our appointment and arrived per the confirmation time. Due to time contraints I had two electricians giving me estimates at the same time (not my usual practice). Both parties went through the list of issues...they even worked together in their evaluations. :) The one electrician gave me his estimate at the site, which was nice. Stephen took a day for his, which was not a problem for me. I choose Wilcox-Electric based on cost and a general feel in my interaction with Stephen. Stephen's crew performed the work in one day on the day specified. I had to call back for another problem and they were there within hours and completed that too. At one point we did have a little miscommunication/timing snafu but it was resolved to my satisfaction. I have nothing but good things to say about Wilcox-Electric. Punctual, Neat, Communicative, Cost effective. I would definitely hire them again.

This was my third time using Wilcox Electric. Joe was very responsive on the phone, it took about 4 days for them to come out, but given that this was right after the major storm & my problem wasn't pressing, that was not a problem. The electrician was right on time (a few minutes early, even) and fixed the problem in about 8 minutes. I understand why they have to charge for the full hour, but it's still not fun to pay $130 for 8 minutes of work! If I'd known it would be such a simple fix, I would've lined up some other tasks... but I didn't know if it would take minutes or hours. However - that's a very minor issue when looked at in light of the professionalism & efficiency of each person I've worked with from Wilcox Electric.
Description of Work: Our basement lights stopped working, Joe talked through some options it could be on the phone, none of which it was, and when the electrician came out, it turned out it was a bad switch.

Steve Wilcox came out to our place and gave us an estimate on completion (and fixing) of some electrical work that the seller of my new home hadn't done properly. He went through the basement and the attic/roof and was wonderful about letting us know what did -- and what did not -- need to be redone and/or completed. Overall, Steve was wonderful, knowledgeable, and highly professional. He is just great. While I ended up hiring another company to do the work because the estimate was a little lower, I wanted to leave a review here because I had such a positive experience with Wilcox in getting an estimate. In the end, I got a lower offer, but I absolutely would work with Wilcox in the future to get an estimate on any other work I need done.

Well, this is the first time that we get such a wonderful report submitted when we did not win a job! Thank you for the kind remarks. It is true that Steve will provide a fair assessment of needed electrical work. That is Steve's nature, but we also know that it is the best way to generate the trust and confidence needed to do well in the service area. Thanks again!

The overall experience was great, from the time I called to make an appointment to the time the work was completed. The electrician (Juan) arrived early and was very professional. After hanging the two new fixtures he spent some time going over some other things I wanted done in the future. Very helpful and knowledgable. I will definitely use them again.

Our preference was for an independent electric source. After viewing the alternatives (drilling through walls, difficulty of location, etc.), the electrician recommended pulling power off the external light. This had the disadvantage of only being available when the light was turned on but we decided that was acceptable as 1) we only needed it occasionally for power tools, electric smoker, etc. and 2) when we wanted it for outside Christmas tree lights we decided we could live with a low wattage bulb. His advice was helpful here as well as suggesting a superior location for the outlets.

The person who did the estimate work was very friendly. He also spent time talking through the different options for achieving my goals with the lighting work we wanted done. I was disappointed with the installation work, however. The pendant didn't work and they told me that was due to the light bulb that came with the fixture. That was not the case - they reinstalled on their second visit and it works now. The pendant hangs from a wire that is normally sheathed in a fabric casing, but it looked pretty terrible after they installed it. It should have hung taught from the ceiling, but was crumpled and uneven, so I asked them just to leave it off as it is really only decorative. The monorail system works fine. The system was very grimy after the installation. They also threw out the decorative end caps that were to go at each end of the rail. They did reimburse me for replacements. The junction box was supposed to be a decorative one, but they installed one that would be appropriate for a warehouse or a garage, not a living space. They returned and installed a decorative one. So, I had several complaints about the initial installation. The people at the office were very responsive and a manager came out to review the work. I was told that I should understand that "it's dirty work" and they don't have everything on hand in the truck. I understand it's hard work, but I still don't understand why the system appeared so grimy afterwards. Regarding not having all the materials in the truck, my thought was, "well, what's the purpose of having someone come out to do an estimate?" In the end, everything works. They were responsive and they came back to make corrections. I think the workers, while pleasant, were not especially detail oriented - see description of the pendant and the use of a large industrial looking junction box in a bedroom.

Contacted Wilcox Electric on Monday 5/10 via phone. They answered promptly and we discussed rates and scheduling for the installation of two additional electrical outlets. With one phone call they were able to give me all the information I needed to schedule the service. I scheduled the service during that same call for Thursday 5/13 from 1PM - 5PM. On Thursday morning, they called to let me know they would be arriving at 1PM. The electrician arrived on time, took his shoes off, and performed the work in about 2 hours. He was professional and very polite. I paid by check, however, they do accept credit cards. The entire process was easy and flawless. They even offered to recommend a dry-wall company to fix the holes in the wall (which are required for this type of work). I could not be happier with their service, reliability and workmanship. I would recommend them to anyone looking for electrical work, from easy to complex. Wilcox Electric was a pleasure to work with.

They quoted $149 (or maybe $143, I don't remember) for the first hour. Because it took such a short time to fix, they discounted it to $93. It was good to know the cost upfront and nice to get a discount. Juan Carlos arrived on time, fixed it, and explained to me what the issue was. He was very professional. I will definitely use them in the future.

Again, an excellent experience with Wilcox. Hutch, the technician, arrived exactly at the arranged hour. He was pleasant and professional, explaining the process to me as it was going on. The Murano glass chandelier was fragile and expensive. Hutch was extremely careful with it; yet, he was quick in properly installing it. Overall, another great experience with the company.

A representative from Wilcox came out a week before we had the service completed to look at the overhead fixture to assess the problem. At first I wanted to get recessed lighting all throughout the kitchen. The representative presented me with all of my options and he provided good advice to simply replace the overhead fixture since installation of recessed lighting would have been costly and took more effort for installation, ceiling repair and clean-up. The technician arrived exactly on time for the scheduled appointment. He repaired the electrical issue and installed the fixtures within an hour. He cleaned up after himself and I didn't have to do a thing when he finished. He explained the bill when he presented it to me and provided recommendations on installing a new smoke detector in the foyer and the bedrooms. Although I understand that this is part of their strategy to gain more business, the technician didn't pressure me to take the recommendation, just mentioned it and kept it moving-- and I appreciate that.

Steve and his great team have been a valuable ally in dealing with issues surrounding a heavy-up that we thought was already completed when we bought our house, and with fixing issues arising from inferior existing electrical work. They are very responsive to service requests and let you know exactly what the problems are, how they would fix them, and how much it will cost. I can't recommend them enough.

These guys were GREAT! Steve Wilcox is such a warm friendly person. I needed a lot of work done and he spent an hour in my home for the free estimate. I thought I needed to upgrade my service but he explained why I didn't. On the day the work got done his team showed up right on time and worked quickly. They were just as warm and friendly as Steve. They even gave me a smoke detector because mine was broken. Because I had such a good expierence I had Steve do another estimate for some work in my basement. Once that work is done I will report again. If this 1st time is any indication I'm sure the 2nd time around will be great. Note: I gave a B on the price because I did the thing you shouldn't do and did not get any other estimates. I don't have a good handle on what it should cost. Steve was so great he won me over.
Description of Work: •Install a new, 120 volt, 20 amp circuit with outlet for washer. • Remove the miscellaneous 2prong receptacles throughout the house. Replace with new, 3prong, grounding type receptacles. (10 +/-) • Replace the broken AC cover plate in dining room. • Change out the existing switch receptacle combo in the 1st floor bathroom. Install a new GFI switch combo. • Remove two existing light fixtures and install two, new, owner supplied, light fixtures. • Remove two existing receptacles in the kitchen. Replace with two, new, GFI receptacles. • Remove the existing rusted electrical panel and all existing circuits. • Install a new 100 amp, main breaker panel fed from existing 100 amp, service cable. • Re-install all existing circuits and main ground wires. • Label all circuits in the panel.

When they first arrived, one man went upstairs to install the GFI outlet in a bathroom and the apprentice worked on the downstairs light switch. The GFI was installed successfully, but the man downstairs said that there was a short in the system and they would have to send someone else to look at it. Several days later, the second man came by, spent a good deal of time working on the light switch and was not able to fix it, we were not charged for his time. They sent back the man who had installed the GFI outlet and he worked on the switch a long time and discovered that the whole problem had been merely a loose wire that had escaped detection. We were not charged for his visit either. While human error can happen with anyone, I give Wilcox a lot of credit for recognizing their mistake and making it right without charging us any extra for their time.

Even though this was a small job, Wilcox responded quickly and Juan did great work!
Description of Work: I am in the process of having a new deck built and needed outlets installed for the deck lights. I had two outlet boxes installed outside of my brick townhouse. I also had a strap replaced on a loose outlet inside of the home. I called several companies and Wilcox was the fastest in responding, scheduling the appointment, and completing the work. Because this was a small job, one company that I called actually told me to call another company. Luckily, Wilcox was willing to help me quickly.

Very positive experience. Basically, he fixed my problem and didn't charge me. The details: I had Wilcox come out to figure out why our living room ceiling lights stopped working. They found a short and fixed the problem. And I paid I think their minimum charge for that work. But that's not the point. About a week later, our dryer stopped working. I called Wilcox and asked if it was possible that the repairman had loosened an electrical connection to the dryer. I said I knew they had been working near it because they had removed the door of the electrical panel and forgot to put it back (not a big deal and I just hadn't gotten around to screwing it back in, but in all honesty, it was a bit sloppy). Steve was so horrified that the repairman had done that that he came out the next day on his way to another job (which was a Saturday) and tested the dryer. It turned out to be an electrical problem that had nothing to do with the work they had done. He spent about 30 minutes here finding and fixing the problem. Then he didn't charge me anything. Pretty hard to argue with that kind of service.

Steve was responsive, professional and extremely service-oriented. I will use his company for several electrical projects in the near future.
Description of Work: The electricity in several rooms of my home (including the kitchen) went out. I left a message for Steve Wilcox on Saturday afternoon and he returned the call within the hour. He asked the appropriate questions to ensure the problem was not something I could fix easily on my own (tripped breaker, etc). We scheduled an appointment for Sunday morning. He arrived on time, determined the origin of the problem quickly (the incoming line managed by the utility) and explained it to me, the layperson, so that I could provide the appropriate information when calling Dominion for service.
