Terrible experience overall. The owner/estimator was very professional and presented himself well. The impression I received was one of trust and professionalism. I expected him to be on the site, and communicate with me about the project. I never heard or saw him again once we agreed to the terms on the contract. He never called to see if I liked the job. The job was never completed. The foreman on the job said they would come back and complete the job once we had several dry days. That was almost a month ago. We are forced to complete the job ourselves. This owner has a slick presentation but could care less about the work his company peforms. Be careful with this company.

We previously (2 years ago) used Service First for some interior and exterior paint work, and we were very happy with them. Their price was very competitive, the quality was good, they did a good job cleaning up, and they were willing to add on extra items after the work started. The painters were friendly, arrived early, and worked long days. My only complaint was that I had to prove to the foreman that certain things were included in the agreed upon price, by pulling out the contract. We recently requested an estimate for some exterior work. Justin arrived on time, was professional, and listed competitive prices. He said that he would email the estimate with details, but after not receiving it 4 days later, I contacted them. The estimate was sent, but with no details and what looked to me like mistakes. I sent 3 emails and made one phone call trying to clear up my questions. The receptionist said Justin would get back to us, but he never did, so we went with another company.

Deck Maintenance
Justin came out to do the estimate. After meeting with him, I believe I had the estimate the following day, and his came in under the other two bids I received. Plus, his professionalism sealed the deal. We needed our two level deck stained after many years of neglect. Service First did everything they said they would and more. The foreman (maybe Lionel?) was very helpful and everyone was willing and able to answer any questions/concerns I had. The finished product is exactly what I was expecting. Great experience.

It ended before it began. We tried to explain that we could not be present, but he persisted in arguing that he just could not do an estimate without someone there to walk around the property.

I was not pleased with this company. The owner met with me and gave me an estimate. We reviewed in detail all of the work that was to be done. However, this information was not given to the staff who performed the work. They had no idea of what was to be done, what was to be replaced. Instead of rotten wood being replaced I found them doing a patch job over the damaged wood. My siding was supposed to be powerwashed but the end result was an uneven two-toned appearance. Lastly, I tried to cancel the job based on their policy and I paid for the work which was done and the paint that was ordered. The paint was never delivered to me. Overall a very bad experience.

"We thank all of our clients for posting about their experiences with our company. We work hard to maintain a level of high level of quality & professionalism. We were contracted to do work for the member in early July. We arrived on time July the 7th for power washing. During the power washing, we pointed out to the member that some stains on her siding were permanent due to lack of consistent up keep and that we tried our very best to not only wash but also hand scrub many of the areas. The following day we commenced our preparation for painting. After 1 hr of prep work, the member called our offices to say that she wished for us to not continue with this project. She was very polite and explained to us that she felt that the wood work was not being handled correctly. We conveyed to her that the wood work had not even commenced and our crew supervisor was merely inspecting the areas to determine the extent of the damage on the wood trim surfaces and taking measurements. The member re-asserted her insistence that we cease the project. It was at this time we packed our vans cleaned the area around her home and left. Ms. nelson agreed to pay $195.00 for the power washing and $10.00 for the materials we used while at her home. During a follow up conversation with the member we attempted to clear up any misunderstandings about the project and to also give her a money back guarantee on her satisfaction. It quickly became apparent to us that there might have been an inability to pay for the contracted work. With that being a possibility we did not make any further attempt to exacerbate the situation and promptly delivered to her, a quart of paint she requested for a personal paint project. The quart was delivered to home and left for her by Justin (company owner). Had she informed us she had not received the paint she requested we would have promptly delivered another quart."

A-/B+ Happy with the overall job, but some small things weren't noticed right away. for a month or so after i kept finding tiny drops of the bright bedroom color in my bathroom (which wasnt included in the work). Also, when I got the estimate the owner assured me since I had already used the hallway color (valspar satin finish) on adjoining walls, he would use same. When painters came, i gave them the chips, but they wound up using Duron brand in eggshell finish, which i learned from the cans left in my bathroom. Did it make a huge difference? probably not, but since during the price quote and discussion, i was assured they would go with my original brand, I was dissapointed that didnt happen. my final issue was payment. the painters didnt leave til almost 8 and couldnt take my credit card payment. i had to call several times to get a live person to take my payment. usually dont have to chase people down to give them money. i almost gave up! Would probably use again, but would be much more explicit in my expectations and would not wait until the end to review the work so i would have time to catch things like brand changes or paint splatters.

They had some weather problems and could not complete the job on time. However, whatever they have done so far looks good. I had to keep an eye on them always, as the people who came were not self starters. I had to point put things that I wanted to be done and make them do it. Once I had asked them to do something, and they had not done that. I do not rate them high because of the time I had to give to get the job done. I had to microscopically view them. I had to supervise them all the time.

Overall, I'd rate their performance as A minus. The estimator was on time and personable and answered my questions. I thought the estimate was reasonable, and I appreciated that no money was due up front. My experience with their interior decorator was excellent. She arrived promptly and was helpful, professional, and knowledgeable I had already made tentative decisions for colors for the various rooms to be painted. However, her ideas were even better, and I went with her color recommendations, with which I'm very pleased. The actual service provided, i.e., the painting was well done. I downrate their overall performance for the reasons noted below. I attempted to contact the company after the painters arrived but before painting began, and no one returned my calls. Their email system was apparently malfunctioning, so that route was not available. The interior decorator said that she had notified the company of the color selections (and based on my experience with her I take her at her word), but this had not been communicated to the foreman by the company office. I thought this was odd. Finally, the clean-up by the painters left something to be desired. Once the painting was finished around 7 p.m., a mad dash to vacate the pemises ensued. (They left at 7:45 p.m.) Clean-up was secondary to leaving. As a result, numerous small paint splotches are abundant all over the house - on carpet, shoe molding, etc. If the clean-up had been performed performed, I'd give this company an A. If I engage them again, I would try to identify the areas needing clean-up well before the painters began to depart.

Justin, the owner showed up to do the estimate. He was on time and very friendly. Painters showed up on time. They were great. We had forgotten to select the color we wanted, but they went to work preping the windows while we figured out the color. They discovered that one interior window had a cracked pane and replace it. These windows had been neglected for 20 years. They did a great job. When my wife got home she was thrilled.

Removed wood that was rotted and replaced with new wood that fit perfectly. Prepared (scraped, cleaned, primed) all exterior wood on front of house. Matched original paint color and put on two coats of paint. Very efficiently done with no wasted time.

The estimate was good, prompt and professional. The price that they offered was highly competitive as was the guarantee of the work. They started work on time and completed the work on time. The problems that we had were: 1) Damage of plants where they painted. 2) The work agreed to from the estimate was not communicated to the painting crew. 3) The lead of the painting crew was unprofessional - he complained often about the work agreed to saying that it would take too long and when we asked him not to step on the plant he acted as if he were going to step on a plant. They always seemed to be trying to get out of doing what they had agreed to in the contract. In the end the work that they did was good and we are happy with it. Justin (the owner) was willing to compensate us for the plants and everything we ask for was done in the end - we just had to fight a bit to get it.

Justin came out to do the estimate and was very professional and nice to work with. The job was postponed a couple of times due to lots of rain in May; that was ok, except the second time it was postponed I had to call the office the day before it was scheduled to confirm that it would have to be postponed again. The foreman Roberto and two others on his crew showed up promptly on June 1; Roberto looked around to see the extent of the work needed, especially wood replacement, and they got right to work. They worked a half day the first day so they could finish a previous job; they got through most of the wood replacement and most of the spot priming. They showed up promptly the second day as well; while talking with Roberto, he mentioned that the paint dries fast, and I responded that that explains how they'd get two coats of paint done in a day. He replied that two coats meant one coat of primer and one of paint. I got my copy of the estimate and showed it to him; to me, it clearly said spot priming plus two full coats of paint. He still disagreed with me, so I called the office and left a message. I called back a half hour later, and the woman at the office told me she was on the phone with Justin discussing it and he would call me back. The woman at the office called me back shortly and confirmed that I was correct, the estimate was for spot priming and two coats of paint, and that Justin had cleared this up with the foreman. I checked with Roberto, and we all had the same understanding at that point. Justin also called an hour or two later, just to make sure everything was cleared up, and I appreciated that call. I'm not sure why there was a misunderstanding; Roberto was excellent at communicating and keeping me informed otherwise, and I can't imagine that he doesn't know how to read Justin's estimates or that this was an unusual job. The work was completed by the end of the second day, and it looks very nice. There were only a couple of places where paint got on something other than trim, and I did have to clean up after them just bit (dried paint peelings, bits of wood, some nails, gum wrappers). But overall, I think the paint job looks really good.

I was very pleased with the result. The painters did an excellent job. The price was fair, in the middle of the group of estimates that I received, and I believe I received good value for the price I paid. The painters were neat and cleaned up after their work. An added plus was that the firm provided a color specialist at no extra charge to advise on color selection, and I believe this resulted in a better color scheme than otherwise would have been the case.

The quote by Justin came a few weeks prior to service, as the weather was still cold when I got the quote. Justin was both prompt and kind, as he gave me his quote. SF started the job on the day they specified, at the time they specified. The foreman, Roberto, was professional and had a good work ethic. He was on-time each day, kept the house looking good as they walked from front to back, and kept a "good ship." He also gave me advice on the door that helped the end appearance. They did an excellent job painting the place, with strong coverage and neat lines. They also went out of their way, as asked, and completed the job in a timely fashion. Nice people, nice work. Very happy with their work.
