Raine & Son LLC

Raine & Son was hired to fix our hot water heater (not replace). We we're billed $2,507.31 for materials. After significant fighting we gave up and paid the bill. Excerpt from correspondence from Raine & Son: "Unfortunately, our accounting software is very antiquated and we are unable to offer line itemization on our invoices which is why it shows in bulk. While we are hoping to address that soon, for the current invoice the material that was charged for is listed on the tickets. I would be more than happy to provide you with copies if you’d like. As far as listing material costs, our material is entered in bulk pricing and adjusted out in our software so I have no way of obtaining induvial prices. Again, we’re hoping to this will change soon, but I know that doesn’t help you with the current query. If you’d like the copies of the tickets that list the material used, please let me know."

I hesitate to write this review. My first experience with Raine and Son (in Oct 2013) was very positive. They arrived on time. They ran the camera down the sewer and spotted the roots. They then effectively jetted our sewer main. We had no trouble for a full 12 months. The price was at the high end ($600 to clear the sewer) but that was OK because they got the job done.
Last weekend the sewer started backing up again. It was the weekend and we were having company over so i bit the bullet and paid overtime ($900) for Raine to come out and jet the sewer again. The techs were nice guys and didn't make a mess, but three days later the sewer was backing up again.
I made repeated calls to Raine to ask them to come back out and finish the job - roots are tough, sometimes you have to spend a little time chewing them up before the clog is really fixed.
Raine said they would come back out but there was no guarantee on the work they had done 72 hours earlier, so any visit would require a new cash payment (another $600).
I declined.
Had I rated them last year it would have been all As. This experience was a solid F. So I guess they get mostly Cs.

They fixed everything perfectly. They cleaned up when they are done.

We scheduled a time and had arranged for my father in law to be here when they came. We had scheduled the first appointment of the day. They called and said their last job ran over and the technician assigned to our job had to go back there the first thing the next morning so he couldn't make it. I called my father in law to change the time. Then Raine call and said they had another technician come in and said he could take our ticket for the first time the following morning. I called my father in law back and he went back to the original time. The technician was supposed to be here at 8 or 9 am and he called and said that he was running late. He didn't arrive until 1 pm. It would have been all right if they had just set it up for the afternoon. It was bad because we had to put someone else out because of the scheduling. He was very cordial and smooth. All of his tools seemed to be in order. Once he got here it was fine.

They were really good. They found some more problems and ended up doing more work for me. I would use them again and would recommend them.

Be careful! The phone listed on Angie's List is the commercial number. The residential number is 301-881-0886. They charged me, a homeowner, their commercial rates and I had to work hard for a week to get some relief and reduce the total cost. I still was not happy with the outcome, but since I had not signed a contract with a set price I only had so much I could complain about.

Mark was the plumber. Did a good job. Knowledgeable, quick, friendly. Labor rate was $86/first 1/2 hour and $100/hr every hour thereafter. Home office called to advise when plumber was on his way.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL COMPANY. WHEN I HAD CALLED FOR A JOB TO BE DONE, THEY TOLD ME THEIR HONEST OPINION AND SAID "THE CITY IS RESPONSIBLE, FOR THAT". THEY DID NOT TRY TO GET OVER ON ME. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE PLUMBING THAT WAS DONE IN THE HOME ALSO.
