I got Mr. Smith's telephone number from Angie's List on Tuesday, September 15 and called and left a message. He called me back a short time later to schedule a time to clean my gutters. I offered the times when someone could be at home but Mr. Smith was willing to come that same day even thought no one could be there to pay him. He called when the job was completed to let me know that the cost would be $5.00 more than estimated because the downspouts were clogged and need to removed for cleaning and replaced. He left his card on my porch with the amount due, trusting me to mail him a check. I felt like I had been transported back to my childhood in the 1960s when people trusted each other to do the right thing.
