I was not there during the work but was pleased by the results.

I chose them because they gave me the lowest quote, and cost was my biggest concern. That said, I wasn't willing to sacrifice any professionalism. I was so impressed with how everything turned out. It was excellent. Every interaction I had with Orin was amazing, and he came out the day after completion to follow up and make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. He was incredibly professional. He was exactly precise with the timelines of how everything would go, as well as the accuracy of the estimate. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

I shopped around and they had the lowest price, which was important to me. They use a good quality product. One concern is that when I asked the sales person how long the paint would last before I had to re-paint it, and they told me at least 5 years. But when they guys came to put it up and I asked them the same question, they said we'd have to repaint it every year. Overall I feel good about our interactions and would work with them again.

The workmen arrived, started to dismantle the old doors, preped the area and put the doors back up - correctly. They painted areas needed to be painted and cleaned up around the work site. They were quick, efficient, and very professional.

I am very pleased with the quality of workmanship provided by City Ornamental Iron, Inc. I hired the company to create and install four window guards and one security door. The product looks great. From the initial consultation until the install took approximately two weeks. Considering that the work is all custom made that timeframe was great. The staff is courteous and professional and work very hard to live up to an exemplary reputation. I would definitely hire this company again.

The work was good, the price was just a bit high. From time of order to installation was at least a month, not terrible except there was no communication from the company. The installation team showed up un-announced, but did an excellent job completing the project. The company claims a solid lifetime warranty on normal wear and tear, but it remains to be seen if this is an actual practice!

We live in a three-story, 1897 row house. The previous front stairs came with the house and were a combination of wood and metal. They were not pretty, but they were functional. But, the railing became more unstable and several steps began to feel less stable, so one Saturday, I called Orrin based on his Checkbook rating. He agreed to meet that very day. He was prompt and came prepared with sample designs, identified two websites where we could select the different stair components, provided us with addresses of properties in the neighborhood where we could see similar work that his crew had performed, and supplied us with a list of references. In other words, he gave us about 45 minutes of his time on a Saturday before we had even signed a contract for services and even though we did not have a pre-existing appointment. At the same time, he gave us an oral estimate for the price of a basic staircase, which was promptly followed on the next business day with a written estimate for a basic design. Both my husband and I were really impressed by his thoroughness, patience, attentiveness and knowledge.
After exploring the websites, I worked with Sonja in the office to explore how the base quote would change based on various design options. Ultimately, my husband and I drafted a design based on a combination of several different features. Because the stairs are a central feature on our house, (no other house on the block has stairs quite as long), we wanted something that would add to curb appeal, as opposed to just having a basic design. Orrin and his staff worked with us and created something which we feel is subtle, classic and unique.
It is a welcomed addition to the house. As importantly, when the 4and quot; iron deck platform replaced the 6and quot; wood platform, gaps in the brick were discovered. Upon us calling Orrin to express our concern with the gaps and with nothing having been done to fill them, Orrin came out to see the site and brought a sample of the rail design, so we could see what his workshop had created. He then explained that he would have a mason fill in the gaps by cutting new bricks and would paint the new bricks to match the house if we still had the remaining paint. These gaps were the product of the unusual manner in which the previous deck was created, but Orrin fixed them with no additional charges.
We had received approximately 4 quotes from other providers before accepting Orrin's quote. His was neither the cheapest nor most expensive. Everyone seemed to start from 8k as the base, so although I rated the price a B, it has less to do with the company and more to do with my surprise that bargains weren't to be had during a recession.
The work was expected to be completed in approximately 4 days, but this fall was surprisingly rainy which prevented them from working. While the stairs were usable relatively quickly (in about a week), the finishing touches, including painting and masonry, weren't completed within the targeted completion date. But, I am confident that if the weather had cooperated, the project would have been completed on time because Orrin and his team are consummate professionals. (please note the price and exact dates for completion are based on my memory and not the exact contract terms)
