Action Fabricators & Erectors

Action Fabricators and Erectors is a wonderful local business, and I have had the pleasure of working with its talented owners on a couple of projects. I would be pleased to work with this company again on any future projects involving high-quality ornamental metalwork and craftsmanship. The first project was for several customized window guards and the second was for a small 42” metal fence. Being in a historic district with very strict permitting requirements and standards added to the importance of hiring a company with trustworthy, capable workers that could meet these high standards. I am very pleased with the results of both projects. Both have added an air of elegance combined with security to this small historic corner home on a busy and very visible street. The Pena brothers were a joy to work with and I was fortunate to work with Marty on the window guards and a few years later with Jerry on the fence. Both were very professional, hardworking, personable, efficient, and incredibly talented. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for high-quality metalwork and craftsmanship.

The installation went well. Although I had a few concerns during the installation, which I communicated to the owner, Marty Pena, Mr. Pena was very responsive in addressing these concerns. Likewise, his lead installer, Jermaine, and Jermaine's assistant, were very polite, professional, timely and hardworking!

Our experience with Action Fabricators was excellent. They were prompt with coming out to take measurements and provide an estimate, and very responsive via email (my preference) when discussing options for railing size, style, etc. You can send them a photo of what you want and they'll fabricate it. The actual quality of the finished product was excellent as well. Their pricing was also very competitive.

Contract was completed expeditiously. Scheduling took a little longer than expected.

The design was just what was needed for our unusual space. We've had the gate for approximately 9 mo now and it works beautifully.

Excellent craftsmanship! Outstanding work! Very fast delivery! A bit more expensive that any other estimate we received, but it included the issuance of permits and inspections as required by the code in our neighborhood, which no other company wanted to bother with. We wanted to replace an exterior iron circular staircase of which only the main pole and some parts remained. Action Fabricators were to fabricate all missing parts, scrape, prime and paint all existing and new parts and install the staircase. We signed the contract on Tuesday or Wednesday, they picked up the pole and parts on Thursday, and on Monday they called me to ask it it was OK to charge the final payment on my CC. I said it would be OK if the work were finished. They said it was finished and installed on Saturday! Finished in 3 days! And yes, I did verify this with my neighbors and the GC who had already emailed me pics of the stairs that weekend, but I had not checked my email. Unfortunately, the pic uploader does not work, I tried to upload a pic of the fabulous staircase...

They did a great job. I am very pleased with it. I would recommend them to anyone.

I had originally sought out a tradesman who could replace the metal rail on my concrete porch. Insread, Mr. Pena presented me with an estimate for rail repair. The proposal was prompt and straightforward and when I inquired about the price for a new rail, he was on the phone with me in less than 24 hours to answer all of my questions. It was an easy decision to move forward with Action Fabricators. I submitted my deposit and signed contract and less than a week later I have a perfectly repaired rail on porch. From the finished work it is clear to see that the recommendation to repair the existing rail was just as viable a solution as a new rail would have been.

I have a wrought iron railing leading up the front stairs to the front door of my townhouse.  It extends about three steps and a landing.  The railing footings had almost completely rusted out and the railing was soon to completely detach.
Action Fabricators & Erectors responded promptly to my inquiry and scheduled an estimator to come by later that same week.  They emailed me the contract. The price was reasonable so I signed the paperwork and faxed it back to them.  They took my credit card over the phone and within three days, someone had come out to complete the work.  The railing is repaired, repainted, and firmly back in place in its original location.
At first, this project seemed like a lot of work to get done.  I contacted a few other places with little success.  Action Fabricators & Erectors completed all the work, in a timely manner, and I didn't have to even be home at any point in the process.  The entire transaction happened over the phone, fax and email.  It was exactly what I was hoping for.  Thanks!

I sent a request through Angie's List on Wednesday, the estimator showed up the same day. Two of the 3 posts of the wrought iron railing on the left side of my 3-step concrete front porch had rusted completely through. By Friday they had provided a written estimate, I called putting the down payment on a credit card, and they said the work would be done within the next 10 days. Monday morning they showed up early, rang the door bell to announce they were there, removed the wrought iron front porch railing, replaced the railing with new posts set neatly into the concrete, painted the entire railing (even the rusted spots on the hand rail) black, and rang the doorbell 2 hours later to announce they were done. The replacement railing is rock solid, the new concrete is smooth and nearly matches the existing color, the black paint makes the entire railing look new, and no black paint spots appear on the nearby bushes or concrete. I called to pay the remainder on my credit card and all was done in less than a week.

The provider came by the same day I requested an estimate and walked through the whole process, options, and thoughts.  He said he would get me an estimate the next day.  I received it the same day.  The price was lower by the other vendors by about 25% and the ratings were the same.  In addition, the other vendors wanted me to drive out to their places of business, look at the options, discuss what was needed, etc.  Action Fabricators made the process easy and didn't put extra work out there for me to do.  They showed me samples of what I wanted and helped me make the right choice for the property.  I put in the 50% deposit the day after I received the quote and in less than 10 days we had new railings installed and they are BEAUTIFUL.  I highly recommend this company.  They are professional, prompt, communicative, reasonably priced, and they do great work.  One quick little thing where they went above and beyond--during the installation, the electricity in the neighborhood went out for a good period of time.  Action Fabricators had their own generator and were able to work through the power outage and still get everything installed in a matter of hours.  These guys are the real deal.

Very good experience with Action.  Professional, responsive.  The railing they built is of good quality and attractive.  They were fairly quick.  A little back-and-forth with them on details, changes, questions didn't seem to bother them even though it was a small job. They always called when they were coming, even just to take measurements, to make sure we weren't surprised by someone being in the front yard.  Their cost was less than a third that of another bid.

We interviewed several companies for this project. Action Fabricators and Erectors was one of the first to come out and gave us the most comprehensive and detailed estimate of any of the others. They asked whether I wanted to bring the gate in myself (for a reduced cost) or if I wanted them to come out and get it.
It was my neighbor's tree that had damaged the gate (a tree I had previously warned him about being a problem) so he was paying for it.  Also, in addition to the damage to the gate itself, I wasn't sure if the actual racking mechanism would need tweaking, so I asked them to just come and get it for the higher price.
I sat down with my neighbor and we went over the proposals. Action Fabricators was not the least expensive proposal, but many of the proposals I got (some that were even more expensive) either weren't very specific as to what they were going to do or had suggested simple quick fixes to the gate to make it work again that were not in line with what we felt needed to be done. Since it was antique wrought iron and adds significant value to our house (it being our front gate) we really wanted people who knew what they were doing to handle it.
We agreed that Action Fabricators had the fairest price for the proposal that they gave.  They did a phenomenal job and the gate looks great and functions even better than it did before the tree branch fell on it. This was an absolutely stress free transaction for me, which was particularly important.
If and when our wrought iron fence needs maintenance again, we would definitely turn to Action Fabricators and Erectors!

I like them they did a good job.  I had thought that they would repair the rust on all the rails but they only did the ones they replaced.  I just assumed they would do this but I did not read my contract.  I contacted them and I hired them to come back and do this.  They were very responsive.  Overall I was very pleased with the service.

I got quotes from 3 companies.  Action was significantly less expensive than the other two companies.  On the day that Action was scheduled to arrive, they arrived on time and got the work done same day as agreed. The fence, gate etc. look great. They used quality materials. The design is attractive.  I'm very happy with their work and would use them again without hesitation.

It went well, they ended up arriving early and were able to finish the same day. Make sure you're there when they install because luckily my wife was home and noticed that they installed the gate to swing the wrong direction. She was able to talk to them and they fixed it on the spot. I would definitely recommend them, they even helped me with drawings to get my permit in DC

Great--we'd used them a few years before to install window and door guards--we never ended up using a window AC unit in the front, so decided to replace it with straight bars. They were easy to work with and do great work. Would definitely use Action again.

Within a day after my review went live on Angie's list, the contractor got in touch with me.
He sent one of his employees to take care of the issues.
Have just one minor issue pending (keys for the gate); but the others were taken care of.

While I was disappointed with the initial work, I'm happy that the issues are resolved

ORIGINAL REVIEW
In late September and early October, Action fabricators installed a wooden fence and gates in the backyard at my property.
Despite being the highest quote for the job, I choose Action fabricators because of the glowing review for the company here.
Alas, that was a bad call.
There has been numerous issues with the fence and the gates since installation.
A sample of the issues:
- The fence was attached to the exterior wall using just one nail. And that nail has come off, leaving the fence dangling!
- The support braces for the gates have come loose.
- The bolt that secures the gates to the ground doesn't work anymore as the brace they're attached to have come loose.

In Mid-February, I contacted the company about the issues. An employee contacted me, promising me that everything will be taken care of. It's been almost 2 months and no progress has been made.
