It started off great. The guy was out here for an estimate within an hour of my call. We spoke about what needed to be done, and we decided to get rid of the entire tree, including the stump. The guy was supposed to come today. I asked specifically that the guy call when he was coming to make sure I would be home. He promised he would, and even wrote down to call me first. When I came home from the gym, the tree was gone, but the stump (with many dangerous edges) was still there. When I called the company to ask why the stump was still there, and also why I was never given a call, the lady very rudely replied that "it's not our policy to call customers for jobs less than $1500." Well I'm sorry, but if that is your policy, then you should tell me that upfront. I then asked again why the stump wasn't in the ground. The lady told me that they are two different trucks (again, would've been nice to know upfront), and then promised me the guy would be here in 30 minutes. That was an hour ago. The company seems to think that customer service is just a rude conversation required to get a check from a job. Bottom line: Shoddy and incomplete work, rude staff, and zero communication. Bring your business elsewhere.

We had lightning damage to our house during a recent storm: electronics within the house and a very large pine tree a few feet from the back porch. Perhaps the one bright spot in the mass of damage assessment, repair, replacement, dealing with the insurance company activities has been the experience we had with Nelson Tree Specialist. The company was so good I had to write a review immediately. The day I called, I left a message and received a response within a few hours. The knowledgeable voice at the other end told me an estimator would call in the morning. I was surprised that the estimator actually called that evening and arranged to visit the next day. Antonio arrived punctually, looked at the damage, gave us an estimate and let us know he could have a team out the next morning. He gave us options: a hand-written estimate or an email (within 45 minutes); we chose the email. I had mentioned we'd found them on Angie's List and he immediately said that that would effect a $100 discount. His other option was that he could drive a crane onto the lawn--it would be easier--and warned that, even though they would put down pads, the weight might leave marks on the lawn; otherwise...we didn't ask for the otherwise as this seemed the most sensible way to extricate the tree. The crew arrived at 8:00 and my husband asked if they could also take out a small crabapple tree; that added only $150 to the $2000 (including the Angie's List discount applied) estimate. Both trees were removed, stumps ground, wood chipped, all debris removed. They even moved the six huge planters near the tree (and moved them back)! By about 11:00 a.m., everything was finished. We can't even see evidence of the crane having been on the lawn. I cannot praise our experience with this company enough. They are courteous, responsive, professional and charged what we believe was a reasonable rate for the work.

If there was a higher rating than an "A" I would give it! Nelson removed the trees within a few days of contact. They were in and out in half a day. They didn't even leave behind sawdust! The best part is that they came in over $1000 LESS than a previous estimate by a tree removal service that has been used by the neighborhood for years. They were amazing! Don't look any further!

The crew was exceptional. One of the trees was two feet from my house. The cut it down and removed it without causing any damage to my property. They did exactly what I requested and finished the job ahead of schedule. I would not hesitate to hire this company again. The were prompt, clean and very professional.
Description of Work: I had two very tall trees (at least 4 stories tall) to be cut down and remove. One of the trees was between my house and my neighbors house growing within eight feet from each with long branches touching both. The 4 man crew showed up on time a bucket truck and a chipper. They went to work right away, cut down both trees, compleatly cleaned both yards and removed all vines from the power lines.

Removed all debris and cleaned all work areas. The workers were very professional and polite. The work was completed in one day.
Description of Work: We had received several estimates including from a company we had used for years. We selected Nelson Tree Specialist, Inc. because of their rating and comments on Angie’s List and because they gave us an itemized breakdown of the work. We had: Front Yard: 2 large Japanese Maples shaped and dead wood removed; removed 3 branches from a very large Maple tree; Back Yard: removed a number of large branches, dead wood and thinned a very large Maple tree; removed all braches crossing property line and shaped a very large Evergreen.

I was very pleased with the work that Nelson Tree Specialist did. I had an overgrown ornamental cherry tree that was leaning in the front yard. Antonio came out and evaluated the tree. He offered suggestions on how to trim the tree to rebalance it. Demas came with his crew and a crane to trim the tree very promptly. They checked in with me to see if I was satisfied. The tree has been trimmed and rebalanced. They were very efficient and careful to clean up all of the debris. I would recommend them!!

They were great. Nelson came out to our home twice as we figured out what we wanted to do, he gave suggestions, and worked with us to make it as reasonable as possible for us (it was a big job - 6 large maples/oaks). He was professional, friendly, focused on safety, and his crew was great. We have already identified a few more trees we'd like to cut down, and we will definitely call Nelson again.
Description of Work: They cut down several large trees in our yard, ground up the stumps, and removed all excess. They also left us with lots of mulch for our yard.

I’m going to rate them highly. They were very efficient and prompt. They’re very, very fast doing their job. They had to bring a monstrous crane. A narrow twisting driveway and a very, very large truck but there’s no damage done. They have to take down the little stone tent which they promptly rebuild since when they're finished. They have excellent service.

Vendor did an excellent job. They came promptly for an estimate and scheduled the trimming for the following week. The cutting had to be delayed for a couple of times due to heavy rain. I would use them again. the price was fantastic. I got two other estimates and they came in the lowest.

Visit and estimate was provided April 27, 2015, on-time, very professional and great advice on what to do with current backyard tree situation. Work Crew showed up on time the next day and left a fabulous backyard - clean and empty of debris. I expressed concern with paving stones from front to back as past workers had broken them with their equipment. He suggested laying down boards which protected the slate. I appreciated the honesty, directness, quickness and competent work.

It Was Like Watching a Symphony! The teamwork was so well "orchestrated" by their leader and they swiftly and harmoniously executed their plan. I met with 17 Arborist's and Tree Cutting Company's to evaluate my tree restoration and/or removal and Nelson Tree Specialists was the last company I met with. My primary concern was the potential loss or damage of seven six year old Evergreen Trees that I have been nurturing since I planted them seven years ago, at 3 feet tall. Most companies would not guarantee their life or assure success in not damaging them. All of my estimates were a combination of using ropes, bucket trucks and/or cranes. Nelson Tree Specialists nicely cut right to the chase and said cranes made the most sense and would provide the least amount of damage and would be the fastest way to execute the effort for the least amount of cost. Listening to each of the contractor's analysis of the problem and solution as to how they would resolve the matter was a bit overwhelming and very confusing. Nelson and his team simply cut to the chase and laid out the plan rather succinctly and easily. More importantly, watching them do it was stunning and fascinating. This five-man machine came in like a well oiled Army. They simply came in and cranked it out in less than two hours and that included a cleanup job where they left the grounds in far better condition than they found them. I strongly encourage anyone reading this review to make contact with Angie's List and ask them to make contact with me and have them permit you to talk to me about Nelsons Tree Specialists, so I can address any questions or concerns you may have about using their service. It is a waste of your time to evaluate any other company concerning tree cutting or restoration. Rich Peterson Email: rich@recruitcom.com

Process was very smooth and easy - we had originally planned on doing a smaller project thinking that the full tree removal would be too expensive. When they came out to do the initial estimate of what they could do during the deal we purchased, the possibility of doing the larger project came up. It pretty much turned out to be a price we just couldn't refuse. The work was scheduled easily, and it was all taken care of in one day. They took a lot of care to ensure that only the trees we wanted removed/trimmed were worked on, and other trees were left alone. The crew was very friendly and professional and cleaned up after their work. Our only complaint was some trouble after the fact of getting some clarification on the pricing. We had originally thought that the price of the deal that we purchased was included in the cost of the work. It was a little difficult getting in contact with someone from the company to get clarification. Even with this though, the cost was still significantly less than we had anticipated and everything worked great.
Description of Work: Removed ~12 trees from our back yard, as well as cleared away some ground growth. Grinded stumps and tilled ground where they were working.

Danny, a certified arborist, gave us the best estimate for trimming and removing our trees so we signed the contract and three days later a 4-man crew arrived early under the supervision of Dimas. They removed a large maple tree in the backyard, lifting the limbs over the roof of my house and over a large maple tree in the front yard with a crane parked in the front driveway. Since the Eastern White Pine was too far for the crane to reach, they chopped it down at the base and let it fall to the ground, filling the width of the backyard. They chopped up the limbs and lifted them to the front yard with a crane also. They also removed a Leelang Cypress tree, the small root of a large maple tree growing on the other side of our fence, and a couple saplings. Then they elevated the limbs of the large evergreens growing too near my old fence. Unfortunately they did not complete the job, leaving my backyard a real mess! I let the drama of a crane overshadow the real cleanup job of grinding large tree stumps and removing them from the backyard. Danny promised my husband and me that he would "clean up and remove everything" after cutting down our trees, including a large maple tree and an equally large Eastern White Pine. Just before the men left, I saw two big piles of leaves and wood chips remaining in the areas where the maple and pine trees had been cut down. When I complained, the crew collected some of the debris, put it in plastic bags, and loaded the bags on their truck, but now it is clear to me that they did not remove all of the chips, many of which were hidden beneath the leaves and later scattered all over the yard when the wind blew. I was told the debris would eventually settle and then I could fill the stump holes with topsoil. But the debris never really settled and is still there. Even now beneath the remaining layer of leaves and chips I can see and feel the stumps, which include multiple large roots for both the maple and pine trees, some of which are visibly jutting out above the ground. My gardener tells me that the grass in the backyard will not grow in the areas where large stumps (and roots) along with loose chips remain and there is no use to spread topsoil over them. They must be completely removed. Danny's estimate for doing the job was lower than his competitor's so I gave him the job. Later he said that he forgot to tell us that he charges extra for completely grinding up the stumps and roots (which are really part of the stumps in my book) and for removing them. He said he was afraid that if he raised the price, we would not give him the job. So what sets him apart from tree experts that do not have certification if he glosses over the details? I would rather work with a tree expert that has integrity. Danny did not explain to us that if the crew only ground the stumps to ground level, we would pay less, but that the stumps probably extended much deeper, much wider than was immediately apparent and would not only make the surface of the ground look uneven but would interfere with the growth of any other plants if not completely removed. This last week due to lack of communication internally between the office manager and the field supervisor, the company did not even know that my check for completed work was received by someone in the company two weeks earlier and cashed so I had to have the manager of my bank call them and verify the check encashment. Now Danny and Gary, the office manager, are giving me two different estimates ($300 and $400) to finish the work which I paid them to do in the first place, i.e. to "clean up and remove everything," including grinding and removing the stumps and their roots. I would expect more from a company with a certified arborist.

I chose Nelson Tree because of their high ratings. Danny their estimator, who was very likable, came to our house on a Saturday and gave me a very reasonable price for the work that needed to be done considering the large trees that had to be cut back. The crew of four men showed up on time on Monday and worked steadily for over two hours. I had received prior permission from two neighbors for the crew to work part of the time in their yards. We are delighted with the final result and are recommending the company to our neighbors.

My backyard looked like a serious war zone. With the house going up for sale soon, there was no way around it - - the backyard had to be cleared. I received five estimates, and most of them were very close, but the best estimate with the most promised services was Nelson Tree Specialist. I received the estimate the day I called, March 13th, and I made my decision March 14th. The eight man crew, four trucks, trailer and all the required tree equipment arrived and began work at 8:00 am March 17, 2015. These guys were well oiled machines, each busy with his own task. There is no way someone could look at my back yard and tell that it was war zone of fallen trees just a couple of days ago. The word : "PROFESSIONAL!" If you are getting estimates for tree work, make sure Nelson is one of the tree experts you call. Just a side note, one tree company representative came out and knew immediately the job was too big and complicated for them and he recommended Nelson. That cinched my well made decision.

First of all Nelson communicated with me personally. He gave me the quote, established the date of service and made a follow up call at the end of the day to review/confirm the work. From initial contact to completion the process took 1 week. They went to work as soon as they arrived. They respected my request to not park their heavy equipment on my lawn which meant they had to park on the street and deal with traffic. They completed the tasks in a timely manner. I will definitely call them again for my tree service needs.
