Response from Highland Groomery
"Thank you for your review of Highland Groomery. We do have cat only grooming days available at our salon for our kitty clients. Wanda Mayhew is a certified master cat groomer as well as certifies others to be master cat groomers. Unfortunately sometimes when we get aggressive cats and the quality of the groom may get compromised to ensure the safety of the animal and groomer. I believe this is the case of your daughters cat and she was made aware of this. Unfortunately we can not find any record of you in our system bringing any cat in for grooming to Highland Groomery. I assume you must be talking about your daughters cats which have not been in since last April."

Did not follow request on how I wanted the cut to look.  They did one correctly but not the other.  Due to one of the groomers being sick, my pick up time was 4 hours late in the day.

The person who was suppose to do it was sick so someone else picked up the slack. They were over 2 hours late for me to pick them up. Also they did not finish the job. One of the dogs toenails had not been cut.

They didn't tell me on the phone or when they confirmed the appointment what their policies were. I took my two dogs there to get groomed and I didn't have the necessary information that they required for the shots for the dogs. So, I tried to get the information and was finally able to reach the vet. They could not do the grooming per their policy. I went to pick up the dogs and I asked for an apology for not telling me about the policy prior to the appointment. The manager started screaming and pointed a finger at me. She acted incredibly irrationally and was completely rude. I believe that the dogs were not taken proper care of while in their care. By the time I was able to pick them up my dogs were so thirsty they drank an entire bowl of water. I can't remember in my 60 years ever being treated more rudely. To have that kind of anger at a customer I can only imagine how they treat the pets when their is an issue.
Response from Highland Groomery
"I'm sorry you feel you were not treated right at the Highland Groomery . But for the safety of our employees and other customers pet(s) it's always our policy to have the proper vaccine records prior to grooming common sense. . If you did not bring the proper papers i'm sure you were offered to call your vet to have them fax it over to us this is what we ask our clients to do if they should forget to bring in the paper work. Most vets open at 8am we have never had a problem with vets faxing vaccine records to us."

We have had our long-haired, 10-lb dog groomed here twice.  The first time was without incident.  The second time, the dog came home traumatized and still has behavior problems resulting from his bad experience.  The 'report card' they sent home said that our dog "cannot handle mat removal . . . screamed and tried to bite repeatedly"  First, I've never heard our dog scream except once in his life when he got in a fight with a much larger dog at the dog park, a fight so severe that blood was drawn.  Second, this dog has never, ever tried to bite anyone-- he is a very gentle and well-trained Havanese (a breed known for their gentle temperament).  I have no doubt that the report was truthful but I did not like the way they handled the situation, in which a gentle and mild dog was clearly showing them that what they were doing was frightening and painful to an extreme.    I strongly would have preferred for the groomery to call me and let me know that they were having trouble with my dog, rather than continue to subject him to a grooming that he was having so much difficulty tolerating.  I would liked to have had the choice about what to do, so that I could have taken him home and worked on him myself more gently and over a more extended time period.  Instead, they charged us extra, traumatized the dog and did not let us know what was going on until it was over.  When we brought our dog home, he has developed a urinating problem (urinating in his own bed) which our vet says reflects anxiety.  This has never happened before (he is 2 years old) and it started the first night after his bad experience at this groomery.  It's several months later and the dog still occasionally has this problem.  When we called the owner to complain, she was very unhelpful  --she blamed us and our dog, and even said she thought the dog hadn't been properly neutered and that that was the source of his 'aggressiveness' while being groomed.  She did not apologize for the stress or trauma to the dog, nor did she agree that she should have called us when the dog was that upset.  She said, "Lots of dogs hate being groomed."  Maybe at HER business.  I am going to groom him at home in the future where I have more control over the experience rather than take another chance on a place like this.  I feel so terrible that our gentle, sweet dog went someplace where all evidence suggests he viewed the experience as terrifying and painful, and where the owner demonstrated so little concern for the dog's comfort.

The person who answered the phone was pleasant. She checked with the groomer (Wanda), who agreed to brush out my cat while I waited rather than making me drop him off. (I thought he would be very stressed out if I left him.) I walked into a clean establishment and was greeted pleasantly, and Wanda came out within minutes to talk to me. She checked out Puck (my cat) and discussed what I wanted done, suggesting also a sanitary shave and nail clip (the latter for her own protection, just in case). I was not charged extra for these. When Puck went in, he was very frightened--and he actually escaped once and ran around the office a bit, knocking a few papers off the office desk. The staff caught him pretty quickly and were quite pleasant and calm about it. Wanda was quick, and I only heard a couple meows of protest while she worked on him. When she returned with a brushed-out Puck, I was amazed to find him calmer than he was upon arrival. Wanda talked to me briefly about how the groom went and how I might keep him groomed in the future. She even provided a "report card" (part of the receipt) and gave Puck a B ("I was good today"), which he didn't really deserve, the little troublemaker. I thought the price was quite reasonable, and I will definitely go back when my one of my cats starts to look disheveled.

I loved it. My cat looks great and they even brushed his teeth! The appt was easy to schedule I got in almost immediately. Everyone was really nice. I am going to start making a standing appt for my longhair, and i bringing my short hair too. They give them baths and brush their teeth when they are short and of course give a pedicure on every service. I cant wait to go back with the other cat. and the follow up service for the longhair is only 25.00!

Wanda and her staff do an excellent job grooming my cat. I have been a patron of the Highland Groomery for over 3 years. Wands and her staff provide great feedback on how my cat's day went, and excellent suggestions on how to care for her in the best possible way. The hours of the Groomery work well in my schedule, and I always receive a phone call when my cat is ready to be picked up. The Highland Groomery services are head and shoulders above the grooming from a big box store. I love the seasonal bows they put on my kitty!

I've been taking my dog to Highland Groomery for over three years, and they are just great. They're nice to my dog and to me, their prices are good, their work is excellent, and they give discounts for payment in cash and for rebooking for the next appointment. My dog needs grooming every month and it's important that we go to a place that is comfortable for him. He likes his groomer and trots right up the steps! Since we've moved they are some distance from me but well worth the drive.

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS GROOMER. OUR DOG IS VERY LARGE, AND IT IS HARD TO FIND GROOMERS WHO ARE GOOD AND WILLING TO DO LARGE DOGS IN MY AREA. THEY KNOW HIM WHEN HE COMES AND TREAT HIM GREAT. HE IS NOT SKIDDISH TO GO TO THEM. HE HAS HAD BAD SKIN IRRITATIONS IN THE PAST, AND THEY ALWAYS HANDLE THEM.
