S Cooper Paving

Not good, promises made but not kept. Keep telling my contractor that the work was not good and till this date not good. This is junk that they put it keeps peeling off and its still soft after the winter and summer passed by. I am not an expert in paving and asphalt but this stuff looks like rubbish or recycled material they used from a different job site. DO NOT HIRE THEM. I WILL NEVER HIRE THEM AGAIN. COMPANY DOESNT EVEN HAVE A WEBSITE. I RATHER HIRE SOMEONE ELSE AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. IF THEY FIX MY PARKING LOT I WILL REMOVE THIS REVIEW. BUT UNTIL THEN THIS REVIEW STAYS HERE AND WHERE EVER ELSE I CAN REVIEW THEM.

These guys are really good. Completed work in one day and only 3 days after my accepting the offer. I observed the work and it was obvious that this was a team who knew what to do and how to work as a unit. I think I got a quality product.

The project went very well and was completed fairly quickly. All my questions were answered and the crew was careful not to cut the underground utility lines. It has happened before. I highly recommend S. Cooper paving. Thank you Scott Gentile, George & Crew!!

The job went very well. Scott and his team were very diligent and professional. They were able to break up and remove the old concrete (8" thick in some spots and reinforced with wire), re-grade the driveway to direct water away from the garage and lay new asphalt in two days. The second day involved a crew coming back and finishing paving over a drainage culvert the county replaced after the project was under way. We had two days of heavy rain after Cooper completed the job. The garage was dry for the first time since we moved into the house last June. I would highly recommend S Cooper Paving.

S Cooper did a phenomenal job. Quality of work was outstanding. I could not be more pleased with their work. I would highly highly recommend.

Sam Cooper, the owner, stopped by my house last week when he was doing other work in the area. I had been wanting to have my driveway repaved, but kept postponing it. Normally, I dismiss contractors who show up uninvited as fly-by-night con artists, but listening to Sam talk about the proposed job, I got the sense he was legitimate. He gave me a verbal quote, and gave me his card as he left. I checked him out on BBB and Angies List and found out he was highly recommended. One of Sam's employees stopped by again to scope the job, and lowered the price even more! I decided to go ahead with the job. Sam provided a written contract and warranty and required no money until the job was finished to my satisfaction. They did a superb job. All of the team were professionals and knew exactly what to do. They started and finished on time, cleaned up, and left me with an affordable, new driveway. If Sam rolls up unannounced to your house and you're thinking about having your driveway repaved, I highly recommend you give him serious consideration.

S. Cooper Paving did a ***phenomenal*** job! They were punctual, professional, friendly, and meticulous about their work. They regraded an area where the driveway was sinking (due to roots from a tree that was no longer there), and they did an amazing job paving around some stone steps and a walkway. They regraded and put down a substantial amount of crushed stone under the asphalt, and put down a substantial amount of asphalt as well. They were meticulous in making sure the grade was corret to help with drainage, and did a fantastic job of replacing a culvert under the driveway. They followed up on the job the day after, and then again several days later to make sure we were satisfied. I highly recommed them.

Great, Scott was great to do business with, prompt, always answered my phone calls, never got a recording. Job was done on time and faster than expected. Quality of work was top notch. Can't say enough about how happy I am with my 600' driveway.

I'm a MD licensed home inspector so I get around and see many things about property, both good and bad. For many years I've seen S. Cooper Paving working in the areas I serve. I always thought his work looked good. After building a detached garage on my property, I was ready to get some asphalt for the driveway. I happened to see Sam Cooper's paving crew working in my local area. I flagged down the first of his trucks I saw and it happened to be Sam himself. I told him what I needed and gave him my address. He went right over and looked at my project. Within 20 mins he called me back with a reasonable quote and I hired him. Normally, I shop around like crazy but in this case I had trust since I'd seen so much of his work.
Anyway, with in 24 hours of flagging him down, my project was complete. During the work, I wasn't there to specify all the little details but that didn't matter. Sam and his crew made great decisions about the important aspects of the job. My new driveway looks better than I could have imagined. His crews left my yard clean.
If you need paving or the other types of work S. Cooper Paving does, I highly recommend you hire him. You won't be disappointed in the quality of work.

I am a repeat customer of S. Cooper Paving. They are a professional company that does quality work for a fair price. Prices are settled with a hand shake with Sam, the crew is large enough to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. Work has been well done on both occasions that I used them and when they are done they clean up everything.

If I need more asphalt work in the future, they will be the one that I call.

S. Cooper Paving was in the neighborhood doing a few driveways on our street. Sam (Owner, I believe) stopped by and gave us a quote on redoing our driveway with no pressure to accept. After doing some research and going over the details of what the work entaled, we decided to accept their offer. We also wanted to extend our driveway an extra half foot back towards the house and Sam agreed to do the extra work within the original quoted price. Agreement done with a handshake, work started at 12pm and was done by 6pm with their crew working efficiently to complete the work. Sam came by the next day to ensure we were happy with the work completed, in which afterwards, payment was given with a one year warranty on the workmenship. Other driveways have been done in our neighhborhood by S. Cooper a year or two ago and still look good. Overall, for the price, efficiency and easy going nature of this transaction, I recommend S. Cooper for driveway resurfacing.

Matt's estimate came in the highest, but it was also the most detailed. He recommended a more extensive renovation than simply laying more asphalt on top. I called to discuss what he saw. He took the almost half an hour to explain what he saw to make this recommendation. After some thought, what he said made sense, so we agreed on a price and scheduled a date. On that date, he showed up on time, and set his crew to work. They were extremely neat, very polite and professional. Matt made sure that I knew who to talk to if I had questions along the way. Though there was some delay getting asphalt from the plant, they simply waited quietly or kept tweaking the compacting of the underlayer. The asphalt went down quickly, and the driveway looks beautiful and level with the adjoining sidewalk, even though that side walk is be no means level.

UPDATE - August 2013
About a year after my driveway is put in (c. 2010), I experience some minor cracks. I contact Cooper Paving, and they come out to fix them. I was assured this was a minor fix, and the cracks should not happen again. They blamed the cracks on my roofing contractor who "must have put something heavy there." Again this year, I contacted Cooper Paving in April, since my driveway has experienced some major cracks, though not in the same places as the 2010 repair. As noted in my initial review, I believed that the sales pitch that a more thorough prep would provide a more lasting surface. Despite no one parking on the driveway, there are cracks greater than 1/4 inch both vertically and horizontally. It's been a continuing struggle to get calls and responses from this company. In April, I sent pictures of the cracks. The response I received was "these are normal" and they were cause by too much sealant -- despite the fact that the last sealant was applied by Cooper Paving after repairing the cracks in 2010. It took until June to finally have Matt Cooper come out to my property to look at the condition and respond to my inquiries of what he saw. He said the driveway looked great and the cracks were normal, but that he wanted to make me happy. He said he's have his team stop by the next time they're nearby -- please note they have offices less than 5 miles from my home. I follow up two weeks later (now early July) to find out what's up. Matt tells me he's still working on it and to stop nagging him, or he won't do anything. I followed up again a month later -- more than 3 months after my initial inquiry -- to find out what's up. Now, I get no reply.

What I'd like to do here is post pictures of my job so everyone can see what "great" looks like 4 years after completion of the job, but I don't see that option.

Approximately 8 men showed up to do the job on the appointed day. They worked hard and did what appears to us to have been an excellent job. We did not solicit bids from other companies, so we have no idea how the price stacks up, but we are very pleased with the work done: The driveway looks brand new.
