Beware. An Over Head Door employee FORGED my signature on the original work order. The company did not send me the original work order, invoice or credit card receipt before my job started or else I would have spotted this. I did not receive copies of the new work order or invoice when the work was completed. I did receive a credit card receipt with no description of the service it covered. It took numerous calls and eventually a conversation with the owner Paul Cummings before I received copies. The owner hung up on me after calling me names for requesting the paperwork. The work is complete and the garage door works. However, due to the way I was treated, the lack of transparency, and the corporate dissatisfaction expressed by the workers, I will never do business with this company again. They currently have serious internal issues.

One spring broke yesterday. I went to Home Depot to buy a replacement and decided it was a job I didn't want to do, myself. Called Overhead Door Co. of Baltimore around 1 PM to get scheduled. I was scheduled for 8 to 1 the following day. I got a call at 8:15 AM to alert me that the technician was on his way. He arrived at 8:45 and went to work. Spent about 1 1/4 hours to do the job, test it and make adjustments. Be aware that you pay for travel time to the job and time on the job. I don't think that is unusual. This is my second experience with this company in 15 years. Technician was professional and friendly. I consider the response time very good.

This company replaced my automatic garage door about a year and a half ago.. Shortly after. the automatic door opener stopped working. They then replaced the motor, stating that the new door was too heavy for the old motor. I thought this was reasonable.  The cost was approximately $350, as I recall. Formerly, I had had trouble with the old door in that it wouldn't close unless I held the button down. I was informed that the problem was that there was an object obstructing the beam. Since then I have been careful to remove all obstructions if the motor doesn't work. However, for the past few weeks, I frequently could not lower the door without holding the button down. There was no discernible obstruction. The light would blink and the door would stall when I tried to close it automatically. I called the company for a repair. An appointment was made which they didn't keep.  When I checked with them, I was told they had no record of the appointment. They were very late in coming for the second appointment I made. The worker advised that one sensor was not in line with the other. With a small screw driver, he unscrewed the bolt on the sensor, moved the sensor into place and screwed the bolt back into place. There are two sensors placed near the floor of the garage and on opposite sides of the door. All in all it took about 5 or 6 minutes. I then  asked about the charges. He said he would meet me at my front door. It took a few minutes until he appeared at my front door. He then stated that the bill would be $180.50. He said, something to the effect that he realized the bill was extreme for such a simple procedure but that was what "he" had told him to charge. It took several minutes for him to work out a charge that came to the basic charge, about $171.00 plus $9.50 tax.  I am a senior citizen and believe that the company charged me, a senior, an exorbitant rate because they believed that they could easily take advantage of an older person. I paid the charges. I am in the process of filing complaints with several government agencies.

When they got here (yes, they were on time), instead of seeing if they could replicate the problem, they took a hammer to one of the tracks; they said the roller was not alligned properly. They made some other small adjustments, but could not get the door to replicate the problem. At the end I was charged $197, for a total of 2hrs. They were here 30 minutes. When I called about this charge I was told those are the policies: Minimum 1hr labor, $9 fuel surcharge, and 1hr travel time. I am absolutely outraged that 1) they have the nerve to charge like this and not inform customers, 2) that I had the problem in the first place with a system that is not even18months old and 3) the customer service manager I spoke with was appallingly unsympathetic and robot like. I felt like I was going around in a circle. I will never use this company again, nor will I recommend them.

John came out early due to some cancelled appointments and got right to work. He identified the problem quickly (the adjustment array in the unit actually fell off inside) and fixed it just as quickly. He then adjusted the setting to be correct for my door and all was well. He was very professional and friendly throughout the service.

It has been horrible.  About 10 years ago we had Overhead Door install a new garage door.  Since then we have had excellent service, until recently.
In the past month the company has come 4 times.  The first time the workman said the door was too heavy for him to lift.  He didn't try to do so.  He wrote a work order for two repairmen.  The next morning my contractor lifted the door -- easily.  I called Overhead Door.  They sent out two workmen who replaced the springs and got the door back on track, but it wasn't level or centered in the opening.  They also forgot to install the sweep and weather stripping.   We had paid them so I called Overhead Door.  They sent a repairman who said the door was tilted because my garage floor wasn't level.  I called Overhead Door and pointed out that the door has leveling bolts.  My contractor bought weather stripping and installed it.  He also leveled the door.  Today a repainman came to install the sweep.  I came home to find that the sweep is about two inches over to one side so there is an opening on the left and the right side is crumpled.
I'm going to call a handyman to fix it.  I can't stand to talk to this company again.  I don't know what's happened, but their current repairmen are inept.

The salesman knew what he was doing. He came to my farm early one morning and talked sense to me.  Said he was going to send me a detailed estimate.  I got that after he left.  They kept me informed and up to date on what was going to happen.  They stayed within the budget.  They came out and installed the doors correctly and everything works great.  They didn't put up any smoke screens about the price of each part.

I called the office at 1pm to order service.  20 minutes later I received a call back from the repairman that he would meet me at my house in a half-hour.  He was on time and quickly fixed the problem.  He could not have been more pleasant and helpful.  The actual cost was a few dollars less than the estimate over the phone.

I called Overhead Door and was able to make an appointment for an estimate within two days of my phone call.  Brian Jarrett, residential sales representative, arrived punctually, on the day and time agreed upon.  He was the third of four company representatives I interviewed (Comfortable Home Solutions, Precision Overhead Garage Door Service, Superior Fireplace and Garage Door and Fred C. Johnson Co.).  Mr. Jarrett and Bob Swigert of Fred C. Johnson Co. were by far the two most knowledgeable reps.  Both were professional, could answer all my questions to my satisfaction and did not try to sell me something I did not want.  I would have felt comfortable using either Overhead Door or Fred C. Johnson.  In the end it was my impression that the quality of door offered by Overhead Door was superior to Clopay doors offered by Fred C. Johnson.

I was replacing 30 year old wood composite doors that were of exceptionally high quality ? though the wood was rotting on the bottom panels.  I have never seen doors as substantial, even in commercial settings.  So I was a little apprehensive about replacing those doors with metal doors that seem to be much less sturdy.   But I was finally won over by the argument that, at least some of the metal doors, come with a life-time warranty.  The polyurethane insulated doors seemed to be the most substantial of the lot.  The ones I chose (I went with what was described to me as commercial grade doors) have an R-value rating of 17.5, the highest of any door that was offered to me by any rep.

I placed my order with Overhead Door on May 2nd, 2011 by faxing in a signed proposal.  Because I had requested brown doors they had to be special ordered.  Brian told me that might take 5 weeks.  I was not in a hurry, so that was fine with me.  I received a call from Brian on May 23rd saying the factory had indicated the doors would arrive in Baltimore on May 30th and based on Overhead Door?s service schedule, I could have the doors installed on June 3rd.  Because I was traveling, I had to postpone installation until June 7th.

The installer was due to arrive between 8:30 and 9:30.  He actually arrived at 8:10.  His pickup was brimming over with stuff.  I left him to his task.  After a couple of hours I went to see how he, Victor (didn?t get his last name) was doing.  To my amazement he had removed the old doors and had several panels of each of the two new doors in place.  I absolutely could not figure out how he, singlehanded, managed to get the runners in place and the panels mounted. Being a mechanical type I decided to hang around and watch.  For me, one of my joys is to watch a good craftsman in action.  Victor was really fun to watch.  He clearly had installed many overhead doors before.  There were no wasted motions.  Tools and parts and the positioning of his ladder were right where they needed to be for him to perform the next step in the procedure.  Victor took no breaks.  He worked through lunch.  He showed me how everything worked, when over safety issues and lastly programmed the Homelink buttons in my two cars.  The workspace was spotless when he left.

Needless to say this was a positive experience.  Now it is up to the doors to perform as advertised.

Crappy. The torsion spring broke Monday night. I called Tuesday afternoon and they said they wouldn't have anyone available until Thursday, unless I was willing to pay overtime rates. If I was wiling to pay, they could have someone at my house the next day, Wednesday. (I thought they didn't have anyone available until Thursday? . . ) The only detail the guy on the phone asked for was the height of the door (8'), but nothing else. He did, however, ask me for a credit card number before even scheduling the service call. I got an 8 to 12 window for Thursday and was told the tech would call me 30 minutes before coming to my house. At 12:30, I called them and asked where their tech was, and I was told he was working on a job that was running long and that he would be at my house in 30 minutes. An hour later I called them again to see where their tech was and I was fed a similar line, this time with traffic to blame. According to the invoice, the tech arrived at 2:15, a full two hours AFTER my scheduled window ENDED. The tech arrived, neck tattoo and all, and barely greeted me. I took him into the garage and within seconds he told me he didn't have the right size spring. I could either have him put a clamp on it, or he could try to jerry-rig it with two springs of a smaller size. He also said he could get my trapped car out of the garage for $65. He promptly went back into his van for about 20 minutes. I finally got frustrated, went out in the rain to his van and asked him to just get my car out. Having never experienced this before, I thought he might have some fancy device to raise the garage door without the motor to let the car out. Nope. He unlatched it from the motor and began just pushing the door up with all of his might, and he was getting nowhere fast. Seeing him struggle, I decided to lend a hand and we both got the door up. I backed the car out, and then he lowered the garage door with the help of the motor (while he held on to the door). Back to the van he went to draw up the $65 invoice. Upon his return he said his office would contact me with an estimate to finish the job. The next day they called and quoted another $235 for the part and the labor, but by the time they called, Fred C. Johnson's tech had already come out and repaired the door for less than Overhead Door's quote. I would never use, nor would I ever recommend, Overhead Door of Baltimore. Don't waste your time and money. And for future reference, do NOT pay the $65 Stupid Tax I paid to have them free my trapped car from the garage. Even with a broken torsion spring (which is supposed make the door feel somewhat weightless), you should be able to lift the door with the help of a friend/neighbor. My door is a two car door that is 8' high and probably 16' wide. Between myself and this tech, we were able lift the door ourselves. Had I know this was the process to open the door, I would have saved the $65 and just had my neighbor give me a hand. Never again.

They had some difficulty to give us an estimate. They looked at my neighbor and thought they won?t get a business. I called and complained to them about it and the supervisor said that they could not find parking place near my house. They gave me a little hard time but they gave me an estimate. I was very upset that they underestimated me looking at my neighbor. I wanted to almost cancel the order but then after three weeks they did the job. They did a good job. I had to do a few adjustments as well. I will have to call them again as the remote control is not working properly. Overall, the guy who came knew what he was doing, and he did a good job. I don?t have much of a complaint for the work they did.

Painless installation! After looking at prices on garage doors at the big box retailers, I wanted to get another quote. I was pleasantly surprised that the price for a quality garage door (not builders quality) was much more competitive than those stores.

They did very good. The doors they installed qualified for the energy credit. The guy was done in about 5 hour, and there were some issues about wood on the outside of my house. They had to come back an additional time because I had to have my molding fixed. They had to really worked with me, and I am really happy with the doors. The quality was really good.

After playing phone tag for a couple of days, I was able to get an installation appointment for the same week. The installation was fine. The job site could have been cleaned up a little better. I had to sweep up all the wire pieces from the installation. The cable runs for the door remotes weren't grouped nicely and look like an amateur ran them along with a wire splice, which they did. I'm still not sure why they had to splice one of the wires. Other than that the process was fine.

They arrived promptly. Three experienced garage door installers were sent to the job, and it was completed in 2 days. The quality of the workmanship was absolutely superb. The installers were total professionals, and they had great personalities. There were absolutely no glitches. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing to install a new garage door. The price was great. The product was spectacular and the installers a joy.

The salesman gave a free estimate & even fixed the garage door opener while he was there. I wanted them to wait until I got back from vacation but they installed the door on the previously arranged date. All was cleaned up & working when I returned. Their price was by far the most reasonable. They manufacture their own doors so I did have to wait 3 weeks for delivery.
