We're pretty particular about our lawn and typically spend hundreds of dollars weeding, feeding, and overseeding it each year. A few areas weren't responding to our home treatments, so we hired Mr. Dancy to even them out, apply fresh topsoil, and reseed. The job took more than 2 weeks; he seemed to show up when he felt like it and usually worked only a short time. We were concerned about the quality of the topsoil. It didn't look like topsoil. He said it was ''better than topsoil.'' The actual price was higher than his estimate, and the area he regraded washed out during the first rain. The biggest problem was with the quality of the ''lawn'' that came in. It was coarse, clumpy, and contained more weeds than grass. The company we hired to redo the work less than 6 months later identified crabgrass, clover, and wheat among other weeds. It was a mess, and Mr. Dancy declined to fix it.
