It was time to refurbish the gravel for a driveway shared with my neighbor.  I took a handful of the existing size gravel to two different providers both to identify the size and amount of gravel needed, and to see if we could find exactly the same kind of gravel again.  Both providers said that we should request ¾-inch bluestone gravel when ordering.
After telephoning several providers, my neighbor and I selected Aggregate Industries because they had the best price for the stone and delivery.  I had a detailed conversation with the company representative, explaining that I had gone to two other
vendors to make sure we ordered the right kind of gravel, small in size and blue in color, i.e., which the company representative also identified as ¾-inch bluestone.  We ordered 20 tons to cover our driveway and parking areas.
When the truck arrived and dumped the stone, it was MUCH larger in size and gray, not blue, in color.  The size of the stone was in most cases closer to 2-inches (and larger).  It was construction-grade gravel ? something you would see at a building site for huge trucks to drive over.  Totally inappropriate for a residential driveway.
The company claimed that it delivered ?Aggregate Industries? version of ¾-inch bluestone.?  They would not send a representative to look at what was delivered.  And they said they did not have the equipment to come pick it up.  We were stuck with 20 tons of gravel and no easy way to get rid of it.
We tried to negotiate with the company but they were completely inflexible.
Beware if you decide to order gravel from this company.  Their standards for gravel size do not match that of other local vendors.  And if you don?t get the right stone or gravel, you are out-of-luck.  They will do nothing to remedy the situation.  They are definitely not client oriented.
When I made the final call, saying that I would definitely write the transaction on Angie?s list, the representative said the company sells so much gravel that they don?t care.
