I have to say it's the best service I've recieved at any garage in 25yrs. I was pressed for time and needed a md state inspection. I walked in with no appointment and was immediately helped. Dick the owner had my truck taken right in. During the inspection the mechanic couldn't get the key to turn the ignition because the key was worn. The owner actually drove me too my house to get the spare! The inspection turned out great. I recommend the self service garage 100%!

They were able to take my car in the same day. Less than 24 hours later the repair was complete & I picked up my car. They only did what was needed, and used salvage parts to save me money. Excellent work, turn-around time, and price! They will be visited by me for all my future repair needs.

First time using this facility.  Read the reviews and stopped by to make an appointment.  From the moment I walked through the door, I felt very at ease.  Explained what I thought was the problem and asked the price for the worst case scenario.  The individual agreed that it definitely sounded like a brake issue and quoted a price,  Scheduled an appointment for the next day.   When I arrived, was greeted in a friendly manner, provided the required information and went on my way.  Few hours later, was called and advised of what was needed, quoted a good price and work commenced.  When I returned to pick up my car, was again greeted in the same friendly manner.  This provider is very professional, provided the work at the price quoted and in a timely manner .  My only issue is that I have not used them in the past.  Will definitely be returning!

This is my second time doing business here. Both times my experience has been positive. Communication was awesome and my problems were fixed. During both of my experiences my car was ready in just a few hours. Service seems to be above par here. Prices seem completely fair and mechanics seem very honest.

Dick gave me an appointment as he knew I had to wait there while they worked on my vehicle. He and his staff were as cordial and friendly as they could possibly be. I expected a 3-hour wait but the mechanic was finished in half that time. They used OEM parts and charged less than the estimate. The cost of using Self-Service Auto Repair was half that quoted to me by a Nissan dealer.
I now have a new auto mechanic and will use them every time my vehicle requires servicing. I have also recommended them to friends and family.
Thanks so much!

I took my car to Self Service Auto Repair because it had been vibrating when the brakes were pressed hard. They replaced the front brake disks. After I got the car back, it was still vibrating a little bit but now continuously as I drove. As time passed, the vibrating got worse.  I took the car back and was told the wheels needed to be balanced, so I took the car to another company that had my tires warranted for that.  This company told me that the one of wheels lugs had been cross-threaded when the disks were replaced.  When I returned to Self Service Auto Service, I apparently did not explain this well and they thought I was saying the other company had stripped the lug and I had brought the car back for them to repair, so I was charged for the repair.

I have since spoken with them and we now understand each other.  I was given a refund and I am now happy with the service and will continue to use them in the future.

My engine light was staying on so I first took my car to the Ford dealer and was told I would need a thermostat assembly and a intake manifold was told it be around $1,280.00. I tried to go to several other places and they either wanted about the same as Ford or could not get in to have them look at the car. I found Self Service on Angies List. I went in and they fixed the problem for less than what for wanted for labor alone.  And they said I did not need the intake manifold. I also had Ford do what they call the Works where they do an oil change, check the brakes and top the fluids About a week or so after I had that done my brake light started flashing on and off and finally it just stayed on. So I had Self Service check that out to. Well I needed new front disc pads. Needless to say I will be taking my car to Self Service Auto Repair from now on. Where the dealer would have taken all day I took my car in around 9:30 am and was out about 12:30pm. Keep up the good work guys and thank you.

He was polite, professional, and efficient. The owner called to get approval for expenses prior to doing the work. The car was ready the same day. No problems since.

These guys are great.  I just moved to Maryland and learned that I have to have my cars inspected before I can register them here.  I came from a state where there are no inpsections and it sounded like a racket to me, pay to have your car inspected by a mechanic who makes money from servicing whatever they find.  So I checked Angie's list and found Self Service Auto Repair just down the road a bit and with great reviews.  I first took my 2010 Corolla in knowing there wasn't likely to be anything wrong with it, so that was my test case before I took in my 1998 Toyota.
These guys were friendly, courteous, prompt, professional and most importantly honest.  They found my passenger side wiper blade needed replacing, which is okay since I changed my driver side a month ago.  If they had said both, then I would have been suspicious.  The only other thing I have to do is remove my window tint, which is a state law not a mechanical thing so I can't fault them for that.  Though I really don't like Maryland for making me take off my tint when it was nearly 100 degrees out today.
So based on that I then took my 98 Toyota truck in.  I knew the truck was in great shape, but a 15 year old truck could give someone a chance to claim something that maybe wasn't really there.  When they finished with it, it only needed both wipers replaced.  I bought the wipers at their station, cheaper than Pep Boys, put them on myself and passed inspection.
This place is honest and quick to provide service, and all three people that I met there today were friendly and courteous.  I still don't like being forced to have my vehicles inspected and my tint removed, but that's a state thing.  Self Service Auto just earned my business for the rest of my time in Maryland.

Awesome.  They were very accomidating and extremely friendly.  They gave their opinion on the car before I decided to buy it and not knowing if I would come to them for the repairs.  They had toys in the waiting room to keep my three year old happy.  They also let me take my three year old into the garage to see all the tools (he loved that!).  I felt really comfortable with them and would return, but probably won't since they are not close to my home (they were close to the sellers home.)

The fan (ac/heat) in my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan stopped working.  Called Self-Service auto and they could work on it the next day.  Vehicle was fixed and ready before noon.  Great service and honest pricing.

Awesome service and reasonable/ realistic rates! I have been putting off
getting my front brake pads replaced because of a few quotes I had received that were insane. I was
planning on doing the work myself but I haven't had the time. Today I
looked Self service auto repair up on Angie's list and was
pleasantly surprised.  They have great ratings for a reason.
I had a cancellation on an assignment and ran in since I had a break in my day. they
had me in and out of their shop within an hour.  I have been to other shops who have tried to take
advantage of me and attempted to sell me services I did not need. These guys
were very honest.  I will definitely go back again! thanks guys!I

After a small repair about 2 weeks ago, I returned to Self Service Auto for a much needed repair for a gasoline leak from my car.  They were honest, informative and did a excellent job.  I will return to them for any other needed repairs.

I brought my car into Self Service due to loud noise coming from the muffler.  I explained to them that I had limited finances and read on Angie's list that they were honest.  After looking at my car they stated that all I needed were some nuts and bolts as they had rusted away. I was so appreciative of their honesty, because if I had taken my car to a muffler place they would have insisted that I would have needed a whole new muffler.  The owner was extremely nice and informative.  I did need a more critical repair and will return to them for service.

Great!! I had my van towed in as I was stuck on the highway. Dick called a tow truck immediately and I was picked up within the hour. I received a call from Dick later that day telling me my transmission was gone, and I needed a new one. I authorized the work and within 2 days I had my van back and it has been running much I feel better than before. My van had over 200k miles on it. I feel like I got what I paid for and the repairs were completed correctly.
