Let me begin by saying, from the beginning we liked Robert. He was very charming and accomodating. However, from the start of Robert had financial problems and we had to front him either cash or materials. He did not submit plans on time, he was not familiar with codes and requirements. In order to get to the next draw he hurried work and used unlicensed subcontractors. We have issues from peeling sheetrock tape to plumbing incorrectly installed.Mismatched windows, unlevel floors, mechanical not matching specifications and so much more. Doors and windows that leak, painting not complete. Even though I repeatedly pointed out issues, his stock answer was "No problem". He would then ignore or cover up the problem. One of worst offenses is on the wood floor. As he was installing I showed him areas that were not level, where the wood was split, etc. I asked him to fix before he moved on. When I came back he had ignored my requests. Doors were installed backwards. He framed and trimmed a pocket door BEFORE installing the door! We finally had to terminate the contract with Mr. Stevenson due to non-performance. We can only hope that the Maryland Home Improvement Commission can help use recover some funds for all of the repairs that need to be done.
Description of Work: We contracted Robert Stevenson do do a complete remodel of our home under a 203K loan program.

Previously (over a year before) Robert had built a substantial garage addition to our home. It was my lifelong dream to have a year round indoor pool, and the smaller size of the Endless Pools made it possible within the limitations of our home and property lines. Unfortunately, we had spent most of our spare cash on the garage addition - so this project had to be done frugally. We had gotten to know Robert from the garage project, and he went out of his way to work with us on price so we could afford the pool addition. The project took about a year to complete - longer than anyone expected - but Robert had never built a room for an indoor pool before, and there seemed little written about the dos and don'ts. I was well aware that if it wasn't done properly, the room would rot from the inside out due to moisture. Several times we stopped the project to confirm the proper moisture resistant materials (ceiling, wallboard, tiles, insulation), and dehumidification and heating aspects - and put those in place. The original design had to be unexpectedly shortened by 3-4 feet to meet code with a property line. On the plus side, Robert was extremely flexible, and worked with us to move the pool machinery room to an outside shed. On the minus side, he tried to guesstimate the altered roof juncture instead of going back to the architect. This caused the roof juncture to have a low spot which leaked and ultimately had to be redone. Again on the plus side, we contacted him many months after the job was finished to report the roof leak, and he came right out with a roofer and figured out the proper fix, which involved substantive reconstruction to raise the pitch of the juncture. We actively worked with Robert througout the construction on the selection of all materials and every detail of the pool room and porch enclosure. If you are not the "hands on" type and want every detail taken care of for you, this method might not work for you. We enjoyed Robert, his family, and his crew thoroughly. There were times when it seemed to take a bit long to get the next step scheduled. Still, it would be fair to say this addition was a learning experience and adventure for both of us. Hard to believe almost 2 years has gone by. The pool room is an oasis and by far the most gorgeous room in the house. The tile work is extraordinary. It is true the job was not done quickly and there were bumps in the road along the way, but I do not think we would have our stunning pool room or wonderful garage addition without Robert's flexibility and willingness to work with us on design and price. This review has taken me a long time to write, but I wasn't an Angie's member until last year. I saw the other review and thought this story deserved to be told.
Description of Work: We added an 18' x 22' room to the back of our house for an Endless Pool (new construction). Room was connected to the existing back porch which was enclosed with new windows, insulated, and sided. The roof of the house and existing porch was modified to accomodate these changes.

We really liked Robert Stevenson, but in terms of the work it only went okay. Some of the work was quite nice but they did need to redo a lot of the work. Ultimately we decided mutually that this company would not complete the job.
Description of Work: They did some remodelling and reonvation in our home.
