We ended up changing our minds about the remodel. But Angie's List keeps bugging me to write a review. He was fine - he maybe could have been a bit more accommodating about figuring out a way to spend the money, but that's not part of what the deal was.

They were okay. They were nice, they were on time, they were responsive, they answered the phone, and they were neat. They didn't do exactly what I needed them to do, and in the end I had to settle, but it was okay. The price was fair.

Response from Potomac Quality Construction
The review posted a year after the job has been completed in august of 2013. Potomac Quality Construction was hired to repair a damaged tiled bathroom floor. At the end of the job since plumber hired by the home owner did not complete his work PQC was also asked to install a toilet where floor was repaired. PQC did everything with approval of [member name removed] ( the home owner). But we will take a strait A rating of our company anytime and we thank [member name removed] for the review.

Overall. Jack is professional and on time with the schedule of work. He delivers on his promises. We never hesitate to recommend him.
Description of Work: We are real estate agents who use Potomac Quality Construction for our listings and rental properties that need to be updated or remodeled. He is always professional and has great ideas about how to do the job for the most cost effective price. His vast experience in building homes really comes in handy. All of our clients have been happy with his work, both in terms of price and the outcome.

This is the first time we have ever gotten estimates on a scope of work this size and my review of Potomac Quality Construction is based on our comparisons to the responses / estimates we received from several other companies. Jack was punctual and responsive, and the price was among the lowest we received but we couldn't let that drive us because of the lack of detail and professionalism. He called a day or so after our appointment and offered a verbal estimate. I asked him when we could expect a written proposal/estimate and he said that if we accepted his price he would write it up. I told him I didn't know what his price included (and thus what I would be agreeing to) and he said it included "what we discussed". After some coaxing Jack said he would email a proposal which did arrive that evening. It was very cursory and included things I didn't ask for (bathroom floor tile which we already have - he had commented that the tile we had was not floor tile so maybe he thought we should have it replaced but it has served us well, we like it fine, and didn't ask to have it replaced). The written scope of work wasn't very thorough (no mention or insulation or the type of studs to be used. I had asked about metal studs but the proposal doesn't mention wood or metal. Jack repeatedly suggested and encouraged me to file an insurance claim even though I made it clear that we had experienced flooding from rain a year ago and we did not have flood insurance. He seemed to think we could maybe put a different spin on it with the insurance company (although he did not directly tell me to lie to them). He was critical of other work we had done in the basement (waterproofing job) which we were very happy with and still are. It was very professionally done. I got the impression he wanted to make himself look more knowledgeable by criticizing the work of others. I feel that Jack is knowledgeable and didn't need to be critical to demonstrate his experience and knowledge. On the plus side, my impression of Jack is that he has a lot of experience in construction/home building and is knowledgeable but needs to refine his business/professional skills.
Description of Work: Work not performed - only an estimate.

Response from Potomac Quality Construction
The member wanted part of the work to be done by her brother (electrician) and the other part by her neighbur (plumber) which in some cases will be problematic. At no time I offered to put a different spin on this job to be covered by her insurance. Such spin not just would be unethical but would also be illegal. Insurance co do not cover based on what kind of spin I put on it. But they rely on their own adjuster and inspectors. But it is my job to point out that it might be part of home owner's insurance policy. It is also part of my job to point out that radon mitigation is or can be a part of basement waterproofing system that was not done in her house. It was not meant to be a ctiticism of the waterproofing co. The member seemed very happy about information I provided concerning radon mitigation as it relates to waterproofing system in her house. She wanted metal studs (recommended by her brother) at the same time chair rail installation, crown molding, and wall panelind thoughout that all need to be nailed to wood studs and can not be nailed to metal studs. I asked her in my proposal to call me with any questions or clarifications that she might need which is usually the case. She did not call me or asked any questions, but she choose to question my professionalism based on her first and the only meeting with me which I find to be unfair and very quick judgment. All these issues would have been resolved with one single phone call had I been given a chance to explain. I am only a human and can not possibly please everyone. It is just a matter of time before any of us will meet someone with conflicting or quick to judgment personality that is willing to question you. I will let the rest of my reviews to speak for me and will always take care of my clients to the best of my ability as I have in this past thirty years. The report on Angie's List should be based on overall performance of a contractor completing a project within weeks or months. Not on a short and only meeting to receive an estimate with unfair and unjust misinterpretation of contractors comments about homeowners insurance policy and coverage. This is clearly a case of someone with a lot of time on her hands not knowing how to use it constructively. Let us hope within the course of human evolution we all learn to treat one another fairly.

Called this company for an estimate on my mother's home which is being fixed up to put on the market and received a return call the following day.Jack came out that same day. I explained that I wanted new bath tub tile installed and that there might be more, as my realtor was coming out to the house in a couple of days for the first time. He understood and explained several things he thought needed to be done in that bathroom. He also told me that he would come back out a second time once my realtor show the house to go over what she had to say. He did just that, in fact he called to say that he was running about 10 minutes EARLY, and asked if that was okay. It ended up being that both bathrooms and the kitchen need to be upgraded and he kindly wrote down, with pricing his informal estimate and explained what would be done. He also showed me a sample of granite for the kitchen counters. He stated a "Formal" contract would be written up if I decided to go with him. He was very friendly, polite and professional. If also offered several ideas to think about in other parts of the house. I did not reward the contract to this company only because a friend of mine who owns a kitchen and bath business came in at a lower price. I do recommend that if you're looking for several estimates on a job, they you make this business one of your calls.

Jack of Potomac Quality Construction came over, looked at the proposed work and discussed our thoughts and expectations for it. He gave us an immediate rough estimate of the cost, which he refined later to a more detailed estimate and scope of work. He appeared to be knowledgeable about doing remodeling of houses of this age, and was experienced in all aspects of the job. Jack suggested we also have our deck cleaned and resealed, and we agreed to have him do that as well. He started the work very promptly after we signed the contract, and worked on our project steadily. Jack did not provide major help with design issues related to the bathroom remodel. He did suggest suppliers of fixtures, tiles, etc., but left it to us to figure out color schemes and style choices. Jack and his workers were neat, did not damage any property, and made no unnecessary messes. They consulted with us frequently as they progressed, informing us if problems arose that required adjustments in the plans. The work was done very well -- exterior painting; deck cleaning and sealing; removal of old lights and installation of new lights in the basement; demolishing old bathroom and rebuilding one of the walls in a different place; installation of whirlpool tub, toilet, sink (had to move the plumbing for these due to expansion of room), lights/fans, inset medicine chest; laying wall and floor tile; interior painting. We are very satisfied with the quality of the work. We would definitely use Potomac Quality Construction again for any kind of remodeling work.
Description of Work: We have a 50-year-old ranch-style house in Rockville. We hired Potomac Quality Construction to (1) demolish and rebuild a bathroom, including moving one wall to expand the bathroom a little; (2) put up new lighting in our basement rec room; and (3) do exterior trim painting of our brick home. The bathroom included installation of a whirlpool tub.

Overall it went well. After signing of the contract Jack was off to work within days. He is always on time and had very open communication with us. The bathroom was the first thing to be completed then the rest of the rec room. The job was completed on time just as it was quoted.
Description of Work: We had a sewage backup in our basement and it caused a lot of damage. Jack came in and basically re-built the bathroom and placed new tile on floor and shower. He installed new windows and new doors. The nutty pine interior walls in our basement were also damaged and Jack replaced accordingly along with the ceiling grids and tiles. He then painted the bathroom and basement

Think we answered this in the other paragraph
Description of Work: Jack remodeled our master bedroom bathroom. He was very punctual and knowledgeable about the work. He does more than just bathroom remodeling and is very knowledgeable about a home's structure. He was easy to work with and completed the job in the time period he promised. He did a clean job, and it is clear that he takes pride in his work. He was on site everyday and very organized. He also removed some half walls from around our dining room area and had our hardwood floors sanded and lightened. While he was working here we felt that our job was being taken care of. He was also very accessible and responsive to us.

We do use him quite often because we are real estate agents. We had a wonderful experience. He is excellent and he has done other jobs for us and for friends of ours as well. We are very familiar with his work. I can say that he can do it all like kitchen and bathrooms. The gentleman who owns the company used to build luxury homes in Potomac. He really is an accomplished builder. He's done high end kitchens and bathroom remodeling for us. He can pretty much do it all.

Jack is one of the metro areas top builders who built homes in Potomac for the seven figure clients and is now back in the trenches competing for renovation and home improvement work! I met Jack during a service call on his last 1.5 million house and got to talking about what I was planning from a short sale purchase and he said he was interested. I thought that this was great because he had excellent subcontractors and was currently an active general contractor who can (as it turns out) do most of this work himself and can perform as the lead man for most all the trades. He is very tough on the subs and he doesn't let them get by with anything. A point in example was the hard wood floors that were being installed - He saw that they were going to use small pieces for fill in and told me he wanted to run out and get a couple of extra boxes so the floor would look nicer, so of course I said yes and thats how he looks after the job! This workmanship is above normal standards and I would say it is as if he is working on his house! Honestly, one of my best friends is also in the business and I would pick Jack every time,

Jack and his team were a pleasure to work with, From the beginning of our discussions until the final delivery, they wer courteous, always on time and always professional. They did a terrific job and often recommended against doing work that he felt would be a mistake for us to do even if it would have made them a lot more money. They have their client's best interest in mind.
