I am at risk of being sued by the buyers of my condo, and I'm going to be prematurely retired. The sale was supposed to close on 15 Jul 14, and I have given notice to my employer based on the closing date. During the course of selling my condo, I just found out that the renovation two years ago was a sham. The contractor has to be a Class A contractor to work in a condo and he is a Class B contractor. He did not pull the necessary permits. He did not hire a properly licensed electrician. He left me with two code violations.
The contractor informed me today, 16 Jun 14, that he did not do the work causing the code violations. He thinks he can get away with this, because the contract is vague. he refused to send me a cashier's check for the cost of correcting his work. I asked for less than $5,000.00I have already consulted a construction engineer and a construction attorney, and the contractor can be held responsible. I am pursuing immedidate legal action. I intend to recover the cost of the corrections and the legal fees. If my buyers sue me, guess who I sue? Guess who I sue for lost earnings? I intend to have his license in VA revoked. I will certainly warn everyone I can. I am filing complaints with the county and the state.
