I called Rod Miller Inc. a day or two before the service and requested the earliest appointment as to not miss work.  They happily accommodated by putting me into the first appt. slot on July 19th, 2011.  David (the technician) showed up right on time, was professional and instructive as to the issue we were having.  He replaced our AC filter and showed me how to operate the dials (this was a new house and I wasn't sure).  He completed all the work in short order and left his card with advice for how to maintain a good schedule for check-ups on the HVAC unit.  I'll be inviting him back in the fall to run tests on the Heating before winter sets in!

This is a terrific company and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for quality work on their HVAC unit

Ron (the owner of the company) is quite possibly the most honest and kind service person I ever met.  He provided an estimate to replace my central AC on Monday.  I was impressed with how knoweledgeable he was and his command of the details.  He was able to explain things to me completely and clearly without talking down to me.  I called him on Tuesday and told him that, although he was not the lowest estimate and couldn't install my new AC until Thursday, I wanted to hire him.  He wouldn't let me!  He told me that as much as he wanted my business, he didn't think it was fair to me to make me wait for AC during a heat wave, and that I should hire the company that gave me the lower estimate for the same unit and could install that same day.  I thought about it and told him that I would rather wait for him because I trusted that he would do the best job.  He told me again that I should hire the other company and that if I was concerned about the quality of the installation, he would come and inspect the work of the other company for free.  I couldn't believe it, but I took him up on his offer.  Ron came and inspected my newly installed AC, said the job the other company had done was excellent, and pointed out a couple of minor things to take care of.  I tried to tip him since he had been so kind and had been out to my house twice without taking any money from me.  I pointed out that if I had to hire someone to inspect my system that it would cost me at least $100.  He wouldn't take my money !  Although I didn't hire Ron, I came away from this experience convinced that Rod Miller is an excellent company to do business with.  I have no doubt that they do excellent work and stand behind it.  Next time I need heat or AC, I'm calling Ron and hiring him . . . if he'll let me.

Despite being just 10 miles away from my home, this company refused to provide service to me "because [I] live in a different county." Hmm, I wonder if they only accept local calls, too.

The service guy arrived within the specified time window. he was polite and professional. He worked quickly to check my system and said it was all in good working order. I asked him a number of questions about my system, the work he performed, and the services that Rod Miller provides and he patiently answered each one. He also took a quick look at my boiler and confirmed a problem that had been spotted by a preivous repairman.

great, they showed up on time (difficult, given parking in Dupont Circle), cleaned up after themselves, and explained the system. They had to bring a crane to get the unit off of the roof, and since I live in a 3rd floor walk-up the poor guys has to traipse up and down the stairs and fire escape to lug stuff around. I only interacted with Roy and Pablo (there was another guy), and they were both GREAT. Roy even helped me pull out my incredibly heavy ac window units! I used my angieslist coupon to get 200 off. I'm not sure if I should give the price an A, since it was way more expensive than I had anticipated, but i never got an in-person estiate, so what do I know. The heat is working spectacularly which I am grateful for since i've spent the last 3 days with no heat and last night got down to 40 degrees in my room. Great job, guys!

See above. We were very satisfied with the polite and prompt scheduling of our service call. The technician, David Dixon, was on time, friendly and professional. We would gladly have him provide service in the future.

Called for an estimate and the first question I asked was if they serviced PG County (Upper Marlboro/Largo specifically). The responder answered no. So what exactly does the "Washington Metropolitan Area" mean?? What a waste of time to call and then find out my area is not serviced; especially since the company is also located in the "metro DC area". It's not like I'm located in some obscure city/area. Company really should change their service location information. It's vague and misleading.

They come two times a year and it is probably $75 a visit. They are very good and they do what they say they do. I know I can count on them to show up; they are consistent. They are not outrageous with their cost.

An energy efficiency auditor stated that the CO level inside my flue was dangerously high and that my boiler could not be safely used until the CO level had been brought down. I had many HVAC companies come via my home insurance. Each was either unprepared to work on a boiler (because it was summer), or lacked the necessary equipment. I called Rod Miller to fix the problem. During the initial visit, the technician did not bring the CO detector. I was very upset. Thereafter, the most experienced HVAC technician in the company called and spoke to me for 45 minutes. He explained that my CO level was a function of my boiler's efficiency, which, in turn, was based on the design of my particular boiler. He told me that there was likely nothing wrong with my boiler and reccomended a cleaning. When the Rod Miller technician came to clean my boiler, the lead technician also came and explained his reasoning while the boiler was being serviced. The lead technician only left after he was confident that the situation was under control. Getting to the bottom of my problem was an ordeal, especially because I lacked the knowledge to a**** the threat level from a high CO level inside the flue. The lead technician from Rod Miller was very helpful and in a logical way explained the nature of my problem and possible solutions. That he came when the boiler was being cleaned was a sign that: (1) the company takes customer service seriously; and (2) Rod Miller employees are vested in their work product. I heartily reccomend the Rod Miller Company for any work. You will not only have your problem solved, but will probably learn something in the process!

What I pay them is worth the peace of mind I get. They were obscenely expensive when we asked them for a small unit for upstairs. The rep from the company that we spoke with gave us a bid of $9000 and said the unit price was $5000. We found it online for $2300. Otherwise, we have not had any problem with them for anything. We do not use them for other services. They are competitive for everything else. They do good quality work. Once they came and put in some stuff that was not quite right. I told them about it and they came back and replaced it. They come when they say they will come, and they usually call me in advance. They give me a four hour window.

He seemed like a nice guy. It was between him and another guy, and I was waiting for him to give me a paper estimate. He waited too long, and I got another referal with a cheaper price.

I enjoyed working with Rod Miller and would recommend it to others. There are several elements of their work which impressed me. They were incredibly punctual; indeed, they showed up early each day. They finished the project a day earlier than anticipated. The men who installed the air conditioning system were professionals and I trusted them to do a top-notch job. Rod Miller certainly won't be the cheapest option, but I felt that the comfort of having this done right outweighed the savings of having this done cheaper. The system has worked wonderfully since it was installed.

I had four companies come in to check my heating/air unit. After a cost of $100 for the visit, I was told that while I could have it repaired, I should really consider replacing the unit, because of its 10+ years of age. They told me it would just be a matter of time before it broke down completely. Thinking I needed to replace it, I called in two more companies, everyone emphasized the age of the unit and the tax break that I would receive should I decide to replace my old unit with a more energy efficient one. I was looking at a $5-$10k cost. That being the case I really wanted to investigate the best units and the companies to install it (hence talking to so many people). After the initial three companies a neighbor recommended Rod Miller. I called, telling them I wanted to buy a new unit. They came in to sell me a new unit, but after asking what I already had, asked if they could look at it (at no charge). After 5 minutes I was told that it could be easily repaired, and that in its day, my Carrier unit was one of the best around. They recommended that I repair it AND get it out of my head that it was going to break down again anytime soon. Which is what I did, and it has been working perfectly ever since. They also recommended a service agreement, but were very upfront about the limits of the additional fee for parts replacements. I found them to be extremely honest and helpful, and truly looking out for me. I hope they continue to maintain their high level of integrity, it is what will keep customers coming back.

We've had a service contract with Rod Miller for a number of years, and use them for our routine maintenance. On one of the hottest days of the year, and a Sunday to boot, our A/C went on the fritz. We opted to pay the weekend premium and have someone come out to do the repair that day. They showed up when expected and repaired the compressor. We gladly paid for the labor and part and premum for a Sunday visit. Two weeks later we unexpectedly got a greatly-reduced new bill in the mail with our orginal uncashed check returned. With no prompting from us, they had re-examined our service contract and determined that the part and basic labor were covered by the contract, so had reduced the bill. Not only do they do quality work, but they have displayed commendable integrity and business honesty.

The company ordered the wrong size filter for the electrical heating unit upstairs and took several weeks to correct that problem. On the third visit, the technicians were very nice, but after replacing the filter in the electric heating unit and leaving, the upstairs started to get cold. The next morning, I realized that the upstairs heat was not working at all. I called the company and asked them to send someone out (it was a Friday. midday) and the earliest appointment they offered was on the following Monday, despite the fact that it was extremely cold and the unit was working fine until they replaced the filter. I emailed the company president, VP, and sales manager to request that they send someone that same day, but no one responded to the email.

Rod Miller Incorporated has been very dependable and reasonable. For the most part, the servicemen have done good work. One time, though, the serviceman didn't even go on the roof, so I know he couldn't have checked the air conditioner because it's on the roof. I had to argue with the company to get the destination fee refunded that time.

I think Rod Miller's prices are high as I pay 462 for the annual contract every year which to me is pretty high but with that contract it allows them to come out every season to check the units. The crew was polite and seemed to do what they were supposed to do because everything is working fine.
