I stood outside the entire time the inspection took place. I asked the young man repeatedly how it was going. and quot;It passedand quot;, he said repeatedly. and quot;I don't see any problemsand quot; he told me repeatedly, and quot;except there is some water in your dry welland quot;. Water. That was all he said.
He told me the system passed, walked with me into my kitchen while I wrote him a check. He handed me an envelope containing an 8.5 x 11 printed certificate that said the system had passed, a 5.5 x 8.5 handwritten invoice showing that I paid, where again he hand-wrote and quot;passedand quot;, two calendars and two magnets. I handed him $20 cash as a tip, at which point he said and quot;I need to go call the office real quickand quot; and went to his truck. I waited in the kitchen while he went out to his truck. He very shortly thereafter came back into my kitchen, said and quot;can I see that envelope real quick?and quot;, so I handed it to him. He said and quot;your system failedand quot;, removed the certificate and took it, and removed the invoice, scratched through the word and quot;passedand quot; and wrote next to it, in parenthesis and quot;failedand quot; and handed it back to me. He said he had called the office and quot;learned some more informationand quot; about the water in the dry well, and failed the system. I asked him why he hadn't failed it originally and he said and quot;you'll have to call the office to discuss itand quot;. And then he left.
No, young man, you told me it passed, wrote it on two separate pieces of paper, and now your're changing your mind? And you're the professional inspector? No, sir, you owe me the explanation. And I didn't get one.
Subsequently the potential buyer called their company. The provider told the potential buyer that there was and quot;raw sewage in the dry welland quot;. The young man never said a word to me about the system failing at any time during the test, and never spoke a word about there being and quot;raw sewage in the dry welland quot;. When did that come about? It didn't seem to be there when the young man was conducting the inspection, because he said repeatedly and quot;the system looks fineand quot; and and quot;it passedand quot;. He went so far as to hand me a printed certificate saying it passed as well as the hand-written invoice saying it passed. If there was raw sewage in the system, why did he not see fit to tell me this? I stood there next to him for the entirety of the test. Why did he not, at any point, say and quot;I think we have a problemand quot; or and quot; there's raw sewage in your dry welland quot;. He never said a single word to that effect. When I called the office later to discuss the inspection, the woman on the phone repeatedly said and quot;you need new drainsand quot;, but never once said a word about and quot;raw sewageand quot;. If that was indeed the case, it would have been nice for the provider to tell me - before sharing the information with other people, like the potential buyer - who didn't pay them a penny.
The company has been servicing my system for at least 12 years. If there were some records and quot;at the officeand quot; that the inspector needed to know about, why did he not educate himself before coming out for the inspection? Why did he think it was acceptable to tell me the system and quot;passedand quot; and and quot;was fineand quot;, and issue paperwork backing that up, only then to turn around and take those papers away and tell me it failed? And then tell me that he can't discuss it? And where do they get off telling the buyer something they failed to tell me - that there was raw sewage in the dry well. Perhaps that would have been useful information to share with me during the inspection, or during the subsequent telephone call to their office? They never said a word about it to me. Only that there was water in my dry well.
At the time the test took place, there was heavy snow-melt taking place, and the rain levels in the DC area were 3and quot; above the normal rain fall. The ground water table was already quite high. I had asked the young man during the test if that could be a factor in the presence of the water and he said only and quot;maybe soand quot;. I asked about this when I called the office and the woman on the phone said and quot;I seriously doubt itand quot;. I think this company needs to get their stories straight and perhaps needs to better train and educate the people they send out for inspections. If you tell someone the system passes and issue them a passing certificate, then you have presented yourself as the professional in this field and what you say should be able to be taken as fact.. You can't and quot;un-doand quot; it based on nebulous information that you then refuse to share with the consumer.
We called for prices on Monday, John Seek was the best price and had no price per ton fees. They were one flat fee.
We made the appointment for Wednesday at noon. Two people arrived early for our appointment, they were friendly and professional. They were happy to answer my questions. They inspected my tank for problems after they pumped it out and recommended another cleaning every 2 years. The service was quick and easy.
