About us

Our company is family owned & operated. This statement can mean several things to different people. Let us tell you what that statement means to us. Not only are we family owned and operated, the company name is our name. When we provide services for you, we are attaching our personal name to that service. Therefore, we put special attention to each job because our own name is on it. When we say family, we mean family. Our employees are part of that family. Honest, hardworking, always striving to give you the plumbing, heating or cooling service you deserve. Each technician is either in training to reach his or her certification or is already licensed and continuing his education. You can never have over-trained mechanics. Our company is ''just the right size." We are small enough to know your name, but large enough to handle any problem you have. Our company is growing but at our own pace; keeping track of who and where we came from to make sure you get your plumbing, heating and cooling services whenever you need us rather than having to wait for weeks just to schedule an appointment. Nicholas Herndon and his team did a great job handling unforeseen site condition and then ensuring the installation passed all county inspection requirements.

Excellent work and service. We hired James A Wheat and Sons to install a new gas fireplace and gas line in our historic Rockville house. It was a big job and they did an excellent job. We are delighted with the results.

We are extremely pleased with the work performed for us by James A. Wheat & Sons. We turned to James A. Wheat to address a project ordinary plumbing companies declined to take on because they weren't able to do it, a sewer line leak requiring excavation under our basement and refinishing the concrete and gravel below the floor. James A. Wheat worked with us up front to define the scope of work to the satisfaction of our property insurance company. The project was finished on time without supplemental charges by knowledgable service providers who kept us well informed of their progress and plans. We were also very pleased with how Wheat's service providers conducted themselves in our home. They were polite and professional, and diligent in following COVID-19 procedures. We strongly recommend this company.

Great service! Excellent communication with client/owner living in CA. Kept resident in the loop, too. Phone calls and emails with information and arrival times. Lived up to reputation as company providing stellar service.

Diagnosed problem quickly. Charged $691 to replace a capacitor. Tech said it seemed to be improperly installed as the reason it burned out, but James A. Wheat was the one that installed the system in the first place. I authorized the repair and then researched it...wish I had done so before, as this price seems excessive. Repairman was courteous, I just feel taken advantage of price-wise. I will not use again.

Terrible work. I previously had them clean my dryer vent two years ago, it was excellent. This year, they send out two guys who clearly had no clue what they were doing. They overcharged me for services I didn't need. They used a ladder, that was unnecessary and proceeded to double my bill because of it. The previous guy did not need a ladder. This was all a scam to charge me more money. They also described to me how they may have to break my drain pan to remove the machine. Fortunately this did not happen, but I was livid that this was even an option. They said if they broke it, they give me a quote for a new one. I'm not paying for something I didn't break! After they left, they didn't even turn my water back on to the washer. I had to have someone else come back out to fix the issue. That was burdensome. After all that mess, they didn't even bother to clean out my lint trap! Seriously, this was the worst dryer vent cleaning I've ever had, James A Wheat should be ashamed of themselves for charging their customers for this horrible work. I will never use this company again.

I always had a good experience with this company , but this time the service tech recommmended a replacement thermopile along other services costing over $1000. The problem: my fireplace would not ignite intermittently using the wall switch. I asked the rep several times if there was a less costly solution and he said repeatedly said no. I decided not to get his suggested service. After the tech left my home I noticed a lot of wind blowing inside my fireplace. Then I called Steve the Fireplace guy, and he quickly diagnosed my problem. He filed down some build up on unit and charge me $150. Steve added embers to my fireplace and my fireplace looks beautiful today. We also found that the James A Wheat and Sons’ tech left the fireplace door open allowing cold air from the outside into my fireplace unit and which caused damage to a control dial (which had to be replaced, more damage could have ensued). I have noticed that James A Wheat and son used cross-selling tactics over the years, but I never thought they would try to sell me a service a that I did not need or want or could not afford.

Work was done properly and as quoted and I assumed the invoice went straight to the owner. Apparently not as I didn't receive it until A YEAR LATER; I told them that there would be a delay as the owner was traveling. Then a week later we need emergency service and initially it was a hard "no" because of the past due balance despite the fact that I was willing to be sure this was covered up front and pay OT rates. Over $50,000 has been paid to this company over the last decade with no other delays in payment so was rater annoyed. Full disclosure, they did email back and were willing to come out but apparently I have more allegiance to them than they have to us. They do excellent work, always to code or beyond but can be pricey and (generally) their field staff is well trained, personable and knowledgeable if not punctual, but the office...eh PS - if you purchase the Eagle Agreement be sure to confirm end date. I always thought it was 365 days from the date of purchase but apparently it's the calendar year as it was purchased in January 2017 and I was told it expired 12/31/2017.

The plumber was very professional and careful and did a great job. It is not easy to retrofit a new faucet and disposal into the existing sink. They are a little expensive but the quality of service is worth it.

It turned out fine. I ended up with $900 of repairs but I knew I had repairs to be done. I think the price was fairly reasonable. I think all plumbers charge too much. They were waiting on a water sample analysis. Somebody quit at the water lab and they didn't have anybody to do what they needed them to do, but it got done. It wasn't their fault. They came when they said they were coming.

We discovered through my annual maintenance check because I have an annual agreement with them. They found three leaks that I had those fixed. They was pricey but the damage would have been worse. They had to do some sautering and replace some pipe.

The technician inspected the plumbing, and offered several suggestions for switching out different pipes and replacing worn or corroded-looking ones. No problem there. He was, for the most part, polite and helpful/ Issues: 1) I don't believe he inspected my basement bathroom, even though he said he did. I realized this after he left, when I saw that the toilet had not been flushed (I knew this because I'd added some food coloring so I could determine whether I had any leaks). The food coloring was still there in the tank, undisturbed. I don't believe I have any problems with that bathroom, but still, the inspection was supposed to be for the entire house. 2) He told me that my hot water heater couldn't be flushed, because although he tried to do so, it is so old (true) that it would take several hours for it to be flushed. I reluctantly agreed that he could not flush it (even though I paid for the water heater flush on my Angie's List deal). After he left I read up on the Internet about flushing it. Turns out a very simple solution to get the water to drain out of the water heater is to open a nearby hot water faucet, which I did. Voila! The water came out just fine. So I ended up flushing it myself. I'm surprised the technician didn't know about that trick. So, overall, I have the impression of a sub-par job, and did not get what I paid for.

They were okay. I would potentially use them again. I think for what they did they were kind of expensive, but otherwise they were fine. They only reason they weren't an "A" for overall was because of the value propositions.
