I originally went to see June and asked if she could get me a certain fabric from GP & J Baker that I LOVE. She said YES for $60.00 a yrd. This was on December 1st. I needed 20 yards to recover a sofa. June came up with the 20 yard estimate without seeing the sofa. She wouldn't come to the house to measure. I brought in measurements to her in the shop. I brought in the memo sample of fabric, which she didn't look at thoroughly - it has a very large repeat of 40". I gave her a 50% deposit on the fabric.
Two days later, on December 3rd, June is calling, all in a panic!! She says that Kravat has charged her account some astronomical amount for the fabric. It's way more than she had quoted me . . . . so now the price is $109.00 per yard. I tell her I'm not getting 20 yrds of fabric at $109.00 per and that we will have to cancel the order. When she tries to run my VISA card thru the machine for a refund, her account doesn't have $1,000.00 in it ! THIS IS A CONCERN. Where is your working capital?? She asks if I will come back the next day when she has more money in her account. THIS IS BAD.
I go home and see an old chair that needs refinished and recovering - I have an idea! Let's use the expensive fabric that I love on the chair!! YES. Using less fabric is the answer. I load up the chair in my car and take it over to June. 5.5 yards is what we need. Great. So, she doesn't have to refund me anything - which she can't. I will get my fabric on a lovely chair.
Since the fabric has such a large repeat, I ask her to call me the minute the fabric comes in, so that we can figure out what part of the pattern to place on the chair. June says yes. She says it will take one week to arrive. I call on Dec. 10th - June says no fabric has arrived, I remind her not to cut it till I'm there. I call on Dec. 16th, she says no fabric. I say don't cut it till I'm there.
It's Friday the 18th. at 5:00 I call and June tells me it's cut and her husband is working quickly to finish before Christmas.
W**???
Are you kidding me?? Did you not write down that I want to be there before anything is cut????????
Tomorrow I'm going over to see what's going on. This is stressful, and could have been avoided IF SHE WROTE IT DOWN.
During this time I was out of the area on personal business. I came back to Maryland on March 8th, 2015. I waited until Monday, March 16th to contact the provider. I then went to their shop in lieu of phoning. I was told again by the provider that they were trying to "fix" my chair but if that wasn't possible, could they give me another chair covered in the material that I provided. At this time it seemed apparent that I was not going to get my chair so I agreed to accept the chair being offered as a replacement. It was similar to my chair but was much heavier and not a swivel base nor on casters. I was told by the provider the chair would be ready by the end of the week. I called them that Wednesday to get this info. On Saturday, March 21, I called the provider who then told me that the chair was ready to be picked up. When I arrived I was told that the price was now $193.00. I was in shock which is why I guess I didn't say anything. Then I was given the bill which did not reflect the $75.00 deposit that I had sent. The provider found my payment, applied it to the chair, I paid the difference and left with the chair.
The provider substituting another chair would not have been an option if I had known that it was going to cost me more money. The workmanship on the "replacement" chair is fine. This experience was a nightmare.
June greeted us and worked hand in glove with us on finding either the fabrics we had found online or very similar. She gave us much better initial prices than the other companies we had talked to, and was able to locate high quality fabrics at very good prices. Her yardage estimates were all smaller than her competitors, and her delivery estimates were all accurate. The longest wait was two weeks for the sofa fabric, but June had prepared us for that probability. Jay and his crew picked up the pieces did all of the work and delivered it back well within their two week estimate. Both of us were absolutely stunned by the amazing level of craftsmanship (and beauty) of the finished products. Not only were the fabric patterns matched across the pieces, but the pillows all had the same scene in the same positions. all of the fabric to frame / wood trim connections (not the right word) were flawless and invisible, Jay used double piping at the fabric to wood trim border, and in places that are impossible to see how anyone could manage to do it. In addition, when the sofa and wing chair left, both were wobbling in places. When they came back, they were as solid as single pieces of wood. They polished all of the wood surfaces and all pieces look brand new.
They kept to their time and cost estimates that they gave us, although they went above and beyond in terms of our expectations. June's knowledge of materials and suppliers was key and our experience was absolutely first rate. We intend to use J & C again very soon. In fact, once the furniture was done, my wife decided she needed to get thick clear vinyl to cover the pieces when we had leave the pets to their own devices. June found us 20 yards of top notch material that I recognized as the type used by boat canvas makers, at an extraordinary price.
It is great to find people who know what they are doing, work hard for their customers and stick to their word. J & C Interiors certainly does all of these very well. I recommend them without qualification.
The price was reasonable and the work was done in good time. We'd definitely use J&C again.
Do: Check in on delivery days if they do not show up on time.
