Extremely high pressure sales tactics:
- 1 Salesman was a vice-president of marketing, therefore he does not need a commission
- 2 Initial price was outrageous - over $12,000, but if you buy today price will be under half that
- 3 Special price is because you allow us to put a small sign in the garden for advertising
- 4 Said that because they were a model home installer, the shingle company would likely send someone out to inspect the roof
- 5 Additional costs for reflashing the skylights
No problems with the installation or quality that I know of. Efficient installation. However, they seem determined not to give me an invoice or receipt of payment or a copy of the warranty. Calling the company (5 times for me) gets you a receptionist who says the person who sends out invoices is in a meeting but will send it out "next week".
I do not know why an invoice/receipt and copy of the guarantee is such a problem for them but it does not auger well for a future situation that involves a warranty repair.
I have hired Homefix of Gaithersburg to install a brand new roof back in July 23, 2013. One of the main reasons I bought their service was their 20 year warranty on the roof. They promised to fix anything goes wrong within 20 years of installation.
During the month of April 2014, within eight month after installing brand new roofs, my brand new roof started to leak. I have placed numerous phone calls and left literally 100s of messages to these guys. They promised to fix my problem right away. Their insurance company sent them two letters as well to fix my issues dated 5/1 and 5/9. The Homefix people all but disappear.
Please be aware of this company. They are fraud. I plan to take legal action against them. Whenever you hear Homefix hold onto your wallet and call police.
I would never recommend HomeFix of Gaithersburg. It is confusing as there are other companies by the name of ?HomeFix? that are reliable businesses. It is unfortunate the HomeFix of Gaithersburg gives them a bad name. If you want good siding, excellent workmanship, and a prompt response to your phone call, contact HomeFix Custom Remodeling in Fairfax and talk to Adam. Tell him I sent you.
A damaging wind storm on March 17, 2014, blew siding off the ridge of my home and broke a down spout. Since HomeFix Gaithersburg had installed my siding and lifetime warranteed it, I called HomeFix Gaithersburg. After leaving multiple messages, I was finally able to get through ? only to be told someone would get back to me in 12 to 48 hours. Today is April 5 ? no word from Home Fix Gaithersburg. I had to have another company ? HomeFix Custom Remodeling - come out and repair the damages.
But for having another company repair the damages because Home Fix Gaithersburg would not honor its warranty, I had a similar experience when a storm damaged my house siding in March 2011. Home Fix Gaithersburg told me then that I would have to pay for the repairs ? again, even though it was warranteed. I had paid over $22,000 alone for the siding a year earlier ? in 2010. When I complained, a man who identified himself as ?James Wilson? told me that the company would honor the warranty. Shortly after that conversation, another man identifying himself as ?Merrick Morse,? ?owner of Home Fix Gaithersburg,? called me and rudely said that Home Fix Gaithersburg would not pay for the repairs. We had a conversation. The repairs were made ? I was never billed.
I called their main office in Baltimore, sent emails, and they keep telling me Homefix Gaithersburg is a separate entity, bought by another company in 2007, and kept giving me the same unresponsive phone number. Today someone named Jon Morse wrote me and asked me for copies of my contract and his response was that I can tell by the license number that my job was not done by his office. He offered someone that probably could look at my window towards the middle of next week. There will be a service charge of $80.00.
Homefix corporation logo and information appears all over my contract and warranty. Every hour that passes feels like been victim of a scam. I am filing a BBB complaint.
Stay away from these people.
The process started out with a knock at my door from a contractor asking if I'd be interested in a free estimate on roofing and windows. He showed me his official looking contractor's license and since I knew I'd be in the market for both services soon, I figured, "why not, it's a free estimate", so I scheduled an appointment. The representative promply called his scheduling mangager right in front of me to confirm a date/time and made me promise that both decision makers of the home would be present for the estimate. (HMMMMM). The Director of Marketing came out the next day to do the estimate. She was over an hour late. She sat down to explain what her company does and how great their prices are and specifically mentioned that they are on Angie's List with some very good reviews. I Googled Home Fix Corporation right in front of her and looked at their website. I later discovered by refering back to her business card that the website listed on her business card is not the same site or company as the Home Fix Corporation she claimed to be a part of. More on this later. She inspected my windows and did a heat lamp demonstration and promptly told me I needed new bedroom and basement windows, that mine were in bad shape. She gave me a quote on replacing those windows along with a whole roof replacement (without having seen or measured my roof as it was dark outside when she finally arrived for the appt). She told me that if I signed a contract that night, I'd get a 40% discount. My concern of course is why wouldn't the discount be available to me the next day? As I considered her offer, she could tell I was not comfortable with the $ committment and even offered to cut her prices. We haggled for a bit and arrived at what I thought was a good deal for a whole new roof and 4 new custom windows (2 of which are oversized). Since she was willing to meet me in the middle on pricing, I felt mostly comfortable with her and signed a contract pending HOA approval.
On my way in to work the next day, I started doing some digging and signed up for Angie's List. THIS IS WHERE IT ALL GOES WRONG FOR ME as I learned that THIS COMPANY is suposedly NOT AFFILIATED WITH HOME FIX CORPORATION. Home Fix of Gaithersburg seems to be allowing it's CUSTOMERS TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE THE SAME COMPANY AS the Home Fix Corporation who are getting good reviews on Angie's List. I called Home Fix Corporation and they had no idea who these people were. I eventually found some reviews for Home Fix of Gaithersburg and they were aweful; same description of the gorrilla marketing tactic as was used on me. This company wants you to sign the contract right away so you don't have time to do your research or think, period. I decided at that point to cancel my contract but conveniently, the duplicate copy of the page I signed indicating the cancellation process was not returned to me at signing. I called the office and someone had the owner return my call. When I let him know that I wanted to cancel, he was extremely rude and unprofessional, and told me he doesn't want my business anyway. I asked him about getting a copy of the contract and what I needed to do to officially record my notice of cancllation and he said, "you told me you want to cancel so consider it done". Again, I asked him how I'm supposed to protect myself and should I follow up with the Dirctor of Marketing who was at my house the night before and he said, "do whatever you want". I called said Director and asked her for the missing contract page. She acted surprised that she hadn't given it to me and offered to drop it off at my house that night. While it took her more than a day and a half to return the paperwork to me, she did eventually return it and I followed the procedures indicated on the contract to cancel within the 3 day allotted time period (just barely).
It was not a disasterous exerience but the pressure tactic they used definitley left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I still have no indication from anyone if my contract was ever canceled. Incedentally, the windows that were in such "dire need of replacement" were easily serviced by the original installer. . . for free under their lifetime warranty.
I informed him that I was not ready to commit as I had other companies to review before my final decision. He became clearly annoyed, stood up and packed up his goods , taking back brochures that he had supposedly given to me. He told me that he knew he would not be hearing back from me. I genuinely stated I hoped he did not feel our visit was a waste of time and his response was "this was a waste of my time". As he left he basically informed me he drove 2 hours to get to my home for nothing.
My no obligaton free-in home estimate was the most unprofessional encounter I have ever had with a salesperson of any sort.
Were I not an informed and educated consumer I might have fallen for the 40% off deal. The salesperson's lack of professionalism and the company's perceived lack of integrity--based on their 40% off offer as he presented it to me - were unacceptable. Based in this alone I will not be contacting this company in the future for any services.
To find out they are all owned by the same company and are getting away with this, was very upsetting to me. One of the WORST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE!!!!
The entire reason I got the No Soliciting signs was because of them in the first place, they have since come back two times and obviously cant read the signs, nor do they even care. I was disgusted with this company and their work ethics!!!
Contacting anyone in their office was difficult at times. There seemed to be only one scheduler who could't always be reached, We didn't hear from the salesperson again, until the day the work was done. It was hard to get out of them exactly which Homefix they were, as there seem to be several. They finally said they were Homefix of Gaithersburg.
The work was done promptly and seems to be of good quality. The roofers themselves did not seem any more (or less) skilled or professional than anyone else we had dealt with in the past.
We haven't had any problems with the roof so far.
