The customer service was poor, and only one would give me an estimate without coming out and measuring. I did
let one come out and measure and give me an estimate. When I walked into FAME it was so different. Mike greeted me and asked a lot of questions about what I wanted, what style my home was, how long I planned to live there, and then
showed me what he recommended, which was exactly what I wanted. He helped me pick out coordinating backsplash
and granite, and then sat down and in 5 minutes worked up an estimate which was lower the others wanted just for cabinets,
Mike came out the next day to measure and I had the final contract ready to sign the next day, which was spot on with the estimates he had given me. He said it would take about 2 weeks to get the cabinets and would begin installing the
day they arrived. He came out the day before to make sure we were ready to take delivery. His wonderful crew was
here the next day to demo and begin installation. Once the cabinets were out of the garage, they moved all the first floor furniture to the garage. While waiting a day for the granite counters to arrive they did all the plumbing and electrical. Everything went so smoothly that the following day they started the floors. They actually sanded all the existing floors to bare wood, installed all the new flooring, making sure that the floors were staggered so you couldn?t tell where the old and new connected. It took about 4 days total for the floors. After all the floor was thoroughly dry, the remaining appliances were installed. The crew had a bit of trouble getting the every large refrigerator in (I would suggest having this installed by the company you buy it from) and one of the refrigerator doors got dented. Mike was in and out during the process and immediately ordered me a new door and his crew came out and installed it a few days later. Adam came out when he returned from vacation to make sure I was pleased with the job. The kitchen is a show stopper and the floors are absolutely beautiful. If
you want personal attention, reliability, and honest, good workmanship, FAME is where you should go.
Most of the in home interviews and estimates took two hours each. I also included refacing companies. At first thats what brought me to Fame, until Fame said, let us give you an estimate for all new. My existing kitchen was thirty years old- it had all wood cabinets, but I had only updated my floors, which now matched my cabinets. I thought that if I just did a refacing that would make sense. I also wanted my cabinets to reach the ceiling and have the drawers that come out so my pots would stop falling on my feet. smile.
Fame was different in a great way from the start. Adam came to my house and measured and asked what I wanted. He said he would provide a written estimate within in the week and it would be broken down by item. (none of the others would give an item estimate) He said obviously, if I chose other more expensive granite, for example, the price would go up. My estimate was ready the next day in my email.
The estimate included replacing with all wood cabinets that reached the ceiling in a wood, color and design I chose, hardware, granite countertop, glass back splash and the painting of the kitchen and family rooms, lighting under the cabinets, and recessing lighting, a sink, and all plumbing. I had to buy my own paint and my own faucet.
When Fame came to the house for the interview and estimate at the end of May, they were on time to the minute. The estimate was very reasonable. I went in to the store and Adam helped with my color choices. Work would begin in about three to four weeks.
The three or four weeks were really five to six weeks, but that wasn't a problem for me. After hearing many disasters, I wanted to make sure that once they started, that it would take the three weeks he promised. (It actually took a bit less) They work until the project is done- yes, seven days a week until done. My project took two weeks and about five days.
The work was done beautifully, cleaned up each night, and done in a timely manner. The door was left unlocked so Sean could come in and go and he was very trustworthy and polite and clean. (My garage looked cleaner in the end of this project than when he started it.)
I added a fan and that was no problem. They also installed the new dishwasher.
They also allow you to pay over the year with so much down.
I so highly recommend this place- I would use them again in a heartbeat. They do bathrooms and all kinds of other work.
In the end, we decided to go with Adam, after he assured us that he would handle the entire job. Adam came into our house and listened to our ideas, helped us with the design and was willing to adjust his quote when the job expanded several times. We ended up remodeling 75% of the first floor, including the lighting (now ceiling) in multiple rooms, most of the wiring, outlets, switches, and even the breaker box in the basement when we needed additional circuit breakers. We replaced all of the first floor interior doors with solid hard wood stained doors and replaced the garage door and added a patio door. We also ending up having to remodel a 2nd floor bath when the demolition of the kitchen revealed a leak in the bathtub that could not be repaired, and we decided to remodel the entire bath since the tub needed to be removed. We needed to make some slight plumbing modifications when removing the dining room wall, and Adam and his plumber handled the issues to suit the new kitchen layout.
As each phase of the job progressed, Adam was very patient as we discussed alternatives and listened to his advice to get the job done right. Several times we ended up changing our minds after Adam had materials onsite, but this was never a problem and we are very pleased that Adam was so easy to work with and willing to accommodate last minute changes.
The entire job took about 4 months to complete, which was longer than we had hoped, but there were some long stretches where we were waiting for materials that were ordered to arrive. When we found a few issues with the cabinets and the countertops, Adam was willing to call the contactors back to the house to address the issues without question. We felt very comfortable having the contractors in our house because they were professional, courteous and did a great job. We would definitely recommend Adam to our friends and family if they were looking for a contractor.
