DNA Tree Service

Mr. Kull of DNA Tree Service returned my call about getting an estimate from his company extremely promptly (within 1-2 hours). He came out to my property that day and called me with the estimate. He and his crew came out the next working day, exactly as promised, to do the work. They were prompt, efficient, and did all of the work as promised and cleaned up after themselves. I was very pleased with the service and the professionalism as well as by their very rapid response.

Excellent, timely and very professional

The storm June 28th blew a large oak tree down into the yard of a property I had rented to a family with young children. Fortunately they were away on vacation at the time. The tree had some large branches rising 30 feet in the air that were resting on some smaller weak cork trees. I sent out requests for quotes explaining the danger to the children. Dave Kull of DNS Tree Service stopped by the evening I emailed him to give me an quote and his crew cleared out all the debris within a week. He removed the damaged limbs of the cork trees in an effort to prevent rot. He also provided a written analysis on the remaining part of the oak tree still standing as to it's health, estimated height and the probability of it causing damage to my house in the event of it coming down. I have sent this to the neighbor who owns the oak tree. His price was reasonable and in line with the two other quotes I received.

David showed up the same day I called, provided an estimate. I waited 4 days for the other company and finally called David back. He provided good communication for when they would perform the work, how the removal of brush and larger wood would be handled. They showed up as promised, did a fantastic job, left the yard clean as a whistle, even hauling away brush I had piled up from the storm. By the way, the other guy showed up early evening of the 4th day, while I was home and went right into the back yard without stopping to announce himself. I'm sure I chose wisely for this service!!!

After the "big storm" a tree lay across my property. A neighbor helped to get rid of the big branches, but I called DNA for an estimate to cut the remaining wood and haul it away. The estimate was reasonable, and Dave came soon after with his crew and completed the work promptly including cleaning up the area. I have used this service before for tree removal and will use them in the future, if needed.

I called three tree services immediately after the massive June 29, 2012 "derecho" that felled numerous trees and limbs throughout Maryland and Virginia. DNA was the most responsive at a time when every local tree service company was flooded with calls. Dave came out on Sunday for an estimate, promised to remove the limbs and clean up by Friday and then send me a bill (i.e., no deposit or paying at the time of service), and the work was done on schedule.

The workers came out on time and worked diligently all day to get the job done within a day, which I didn't think was possible because it was a large job. I was especially estatic because they were able to replace the very big root ball of the poplar tree that was uprooted from the storm back in to the ground. So, instead of having a huge crater in the back yard, we now have the ground level tree stump, which is much better looking. David Kull, the owner, was very knowledgable about the trees and personable. What could have been a really big headache job for us from that big storm 3 weeks ago ended well because of David. Thank you.

They arrived on the day requested and did an excellent job. Finished promptly and cleaned up afterward. I was very pleased.

I have three large trees in my backyard, and there were some obviously dead branches that needed pruning, and I wanted expert opinions on what needed to be done to keep them in good health. DNA came out within a day or two and assessed the situation, recommending that two of the three trees be cut down - the larger because a major portion of the tree is rotting and the smaller because it was too close to the third tree to grow much more. Of the four companies that provided estimates, DNA was the only one that recommended cutting down any trees. I ended up bringing in an independent consulting arborist, who confirmed that the trees were fine and cutting them down was completely unnecessary. While there is likely a portion of one of the trees that is rotting, it is not in danger of falling and is still producing full, lush foliage. I am confident that DNA is capable of doing the work, and I would feel comfortable working with them; however, because they recommended cutting down two trees that are perfectly fine as they are now, I will not be using them for this job.

They did a very good job and were the least expensive bid I received. I would highly recommend them to others. They were able to cut the tree down the old fashion way rather than trying to remove the tree and have it moved over my house, like another company had quoted. They came when they said they would and were done when they said as well. They cleaned up after the job was finished.

I emailed Dave's DNA Tree Service website on a Sunday evening, and Dave responded by phone on Monday morning. His crew was at my house that same afternoon and cut the tree down and removed it in like 20 minutes. They returned the next day with the router machine to grind down the stump. It wasn't necessary for me to be home for the job. Their response was quick, the service was exactly what I requested and I thought the price was reasonable. Dave was professional and informative the both times I spoke to him on the phone. What I especially liked about dealing with DNA was that this would have been a near impossible job for me to do (the right way and without damaging something!), and yet it's just one tree in a bad location so I was afraid a contractor wouldn't even return my call or want the small job. For that reason alone, DNA gets bonus points for a job well done. I would definitely use DNA Tree Service again.

We weren’t able to be there and he knew exactly how we wanted it down. He also trimmed the trees. It was just a beautiful job. We also had new gutters put in with covers and weren’t sure how to clean them. He made a special trip out to inspect and decided we need them cleaned at least once a year. We are very impressed with him and have been using him for 20 years now. We have always thought he undercharges for all the work he does. He is one of the most reliable people that we know. We haven't utilized him for sow removal yet this year but he always does it when it needs to be done. He's also been known to come out and clear the snow from our driveway and sidewalks before the county gets to the roads. He is unbelieavble.

We needed to have a very large bush removed quickly in order to allow the gas company to perform work on our home. Dave responded to my initial telephone message the same day and was able to come out to the house to give us a written estimate almost immediately. From our very first communication, whether via phone or email, Dave was prompt, efficient and courteous. His crew performed the work within a week (and likely could have had it done even faster, but for some rain). They did great work at a great price. I highly recommend this company.

DNA Tree service is excellent! I would recommend them to anyone. They actually left my place in better shape than they found it. When cutting the large trees in the back they had to climb the tree and cut it in sections because there was no place for the tree to fall. For some reason they had to move things off of my deck in order to work. And when they were finished they put everything back on the deck neater than they found it. They also cleaned my gutters while they were on the roof - free of charge! Dave walked me through each tree and why they should come down. He also worked with me on payment arrangements as I wasn't expecting as hefty a bill (because I didn't know what to expect). I now know that the price I received was a steal. Or atleast that is what a few others have told me for the size trees that I had removed. I highly recommend DNA Tree Service. They are professional, their rates are great, and the owner (Dave) is personable and a man of integrity. I asked him about treating my lawn and he basically talked me out of spending money with him, that others were eager to take. He explained that my timing was off and that I should just test my soil for now and wait until after the winter to implement the plan for lawn cultivation. He explained that I would be raking up my treatment now and what I didn't rake up would be left trying to penetrate frozen soil. I appreciate this kind of honesty from my contractors. I plan on using his landscaping services in the spring based on how satisfied I am with the tree removal.

Mr. Kull was prompt in looking at the trees that needed work, making recommendations about how to handle the various problems. He gave me a competitive estimate and then called shortly thereafter to let me know that his team was nearby and if I would permit the work to be done then, he would reduce the price. I accepted. In removing the willow, the team inadvertantly distroyed a soaker hose, which frankly, I had forgotten was there. It was no longer in use and this was no problem. I appreciated that he told me of the problem immediately. The work was done as proposed. He cleaned up branches that a previous service had left. I am very satisfied.

They showed up on time and finished all the promised work on time. Dave was thorough, professional and quick. We will definitely use him again.

They had 5 guys working and they finished surprisingly faster than I expected. They all they needed to and more when I asked to trim more of a tree.

I had used David Krull's DNA Tree Service previously (before I joined Angie's List) and found the service to be totally satisfactory. My phone message for this job was returned promptly and a visit scheduled in a few days for an estimate. The estimate was also given very promptly and work scheduled within the next week. A major storm system moved through our areas shortly after, and Mr. Krull contacted me they would have to reschedule my work because they were tied up with "emergency" work like removing fallen trees from houses and driveways. He then rescheduled my job, came on the scheduled day, and when I got home that evening everything had been done and cleaned up so well that there were almost no signs that they had been there -- except for the 2 missing trees and that the other trees had been trimmed as desired.

Mr. Dave, the tree expert assessed our yard and wrote the contract. Three days later was calling to says that he was on site with his workers. The work was completed in two hours. I highly recommend this company. The job was A-one and the price was reasonable

They did a good service and were very prompt. They did a really good job. I would highly recommend them. I would rate them high overall. I would use them again in the future.

DNA was very responsive. I submitted a response for an estimate on line. They were in touch with me the following morning. They came and did an estimate. We made arrangements for them to do the work while I was at work. They called me to let me know they were at my home the day off to start the work. They efficiently removed the trees and left everything in very good condition. They were very neat in removing debris. One tree had pea gravel surrounding it and they raked the gravel back in place. You could not see where the tree had been. They completed all the work in a couple of hours. They called when they were finished. There was no fuss to it at all. I would not hesitate to use DNA again.

Dave Kull and his men were prompt, courteous, and professional in every way. We have used them for other tasks besides tree work (landscaping, maintaining lawn, cleaning gutters, etc.). Can't beat their service! I did not shop for prices but I feel Mr. Kull is very honest and fair in his pricing.

Company never responded to inquiry; very disappointed considering the great reviews they have. Might consider giving them another shot in future, but lack of responsiveness is a bad sign. Currently in process of selecting another company to do the work.

Overall, DNA did a very good job. The reason I gave a B for the price was because it was the highest of three bids but based on Angie's list, DNA had the best reviews for quality work - you get what you pay for. I also gave a B for responsiveness because we got delayed with DNA being busy with fall leaf cleanup and then the holidays. Dave was upfront about it and reduced the price. The workers were friendly and did a good job cleaning up. It seemed like they were cutting a lot of branches but in the end it made me realize how badly the trees needed pruning. Dave seemed very knowledgable and provided advice on a smaller tree that we've been pruning over the years.
